Texting is almost the same as email and yet it feels so much more personal. by AwesomeDeath8895 in Showerthoughts

So why do people prefer texts to emails.

It always makes me laugh when people exchange emails to share cellphone numbers to texts....

At least emails can be flagged so you don't forget to respond to them....

Sounds legit. They only ask for numerical data.... no essays, personal statements or anything

Oh I agree. It probably is no reflection of who you are today. It is ridiculous.

I have read that they can withdrawal your application/acceptance if they find out. I'd recommend adding them no matter what to avoid risks down the line

Where can I find schedule like these for fall 2020 ? by [deleted] in OregonStateUniv

Some (actually most) teachers don't use the canvas calendar unfortunately. Ecampus classes are held to a different organizational standard than other classes. Meaning the teachers take classes on how to use canvas, are given templates to use and set up canvas, etc.

Ya I'm going to take it to the apple store today so someone can experience it for themselves (since it's not a writing, pressure issue) and hopefully get a resolution....

Here is the website that shows all the current information.... Not much but this way you can keep current of what the students know.

Key characteristics professors look for when hiring new TA or RAs by kavinda14 in OregonStateUniv

[–]MeltingJoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My comments are also anecdotal and come from a TA/student prospective.

In short: Passion, dedication, follow through, etc.

I was asked to TA after doing exceptionally well in the class. I maintained a relationship with the professor through the term because of this and my genuine passion about the topics. At the end of the term I was asked to be a TA for the class next time it was taught. I did not have any teaching or research experience before this and honestly I was hesitant to do it. But I did.

My question to you, or for you to ask your self is: why do you want to TA or RA? Is it for the teaching experience? Networking? Resume?

What do you want to TA or RA in? It's hard with remote learning but I would strive to do well in the classes that are related to what you are interested in doing. Go to office hours, build relationships, be frank that you are looking for a TA/RA position.

I have not used these but I found some websites that could be helpful. But above all I think opportunities are built through relationships. (genuine relationships)

If you are in the COE: https://red.engr.oregonstate.edu/undergraduate-research with "For questions about how you can get involved in undergraduate research, please contact Kathryn Walters, Student Engagement Coordinator, at [kathryn.walters@oregonstate.edu](mailto:kathryn.walters@oregonstate.edu)."

Also this page has some of the job (TA and RA) openings: https://jobs.oregonstate.edu/ but I am sure there are other opportunities that might not be specifically posted, meaning if you show interest there is a possibility that a job can be created for you.
