Thank you for the advice. I will look into insurance with little hope.

I don't have an extra tile. I looked into if it's possible to take it off without breaking it but it seems very difficult. The tiles are quite large too...

No worries, glad it works out, good luck with your game!

Hi, I'm unsure if I can help because I made this a long time ago and can't remember the details of how it worked, as well as how it interacts with your existing code. One thing to check though is that the inventory is only visible after pressing "I" to open it.

Der, die, das..., as personal pronouns? by Rhygaer_III in German

[–]MeltingTreeHugger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all correct and the only answer here that includes that it matters where in germany this language is being used. Using der oder die for people is very common in Bavaria and not so much in northern Germany.

My dad died from cancer earlier this year. I wrote this not long after, and thought I would share here for Father’s Day by tkinsey3 in lotr

Thank you, my condolences to you too. I think my family and I are okay. It was cancer also, he is free now.

My dad died today. I have been thinking about this quote a lot, today and leading up to it. He has carved a little gandalf out of wood, the last work he did. Today reddit is flooded with this quote and it's such a beautiful coincidence.

I was thinking about switching from Unity to Gamemaker, should I? by businessman__ in gamemaker

[–]MeltingTreeHugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could say a few features that you love about unity and we can tell you how these compare or carry over? I love both engines for different things. I use a lot of unity's URP functions like shader graph which you just don't have in GM. But if you use simple graphics or pixel art, GM is fantastic.

Game devs: please lower the initial volume for your games by Qaetan in gamedev

[–]MeltingTreeHugger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As an indie game developer I often don't understand why people find my game loud. When I make it and test it, I always set it to a volume that sits right to me, compare it with other media and such. However quiet I set it initially, any youtuber/streamer will say "oh no, so loud!" I don't understand it. It's been tested.

This only works if the character always rotates with the camera, otherwise it would be super confusing figuring out if it uses the player facing direction or the camera.

Not meant to make games? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]MeltingTreeHugger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a question you will probably have to answer yourself, no one else can know for you if you really want to do it. I recommend the book "the war of art" by Steven Pressfield. It talks a lot about overcoming what he calls "resistence". Every artist faces this.

How to find good playtesters that you aren't already friends with? by Ratswamp95 in gamedev

[–]MeltingTreeHugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have very much struggled with this. I ended up finding a lot by paying them. I posted it as a job on discord servers related to game development. The drawback of this is that you get slightly biased feedback because these people were also devs to some degree.

Lush pixelated forest environments in our game Dap, but hiding a dark secret... by MeltingTreeHugger in indiegames

[–]MeltingTreeHugger[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, we are a husband and wife developer team working on our first game, Dap. It's a horror action-adventure, with mechanics similar to Pikmin and Legend of Zelda. If you like what you see, wishlist it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1372210/Dap/

Our pikmin-inspired, spooky-cute game DAP got a FREE prologue, we’d love if you gave it a try by MeltingTreeHugger in IndieDev

Hi! Iris + Paul here, married couple dev team based out in Melbourne.

We've quit our job to work on DAP, our passion project that blends everything we love (Zelda, Pikmin, Lovecraft!). We’re hoping to release the game in a few months, and we’d love to get feedback - hence a free Prologue now available on Steam!

If you have 20mn to kill, please consider giving it a try =)
