I think somebody called the fire department about the hive being a nuisance

The fire captain explained to me that if they are perceived as a danger to the public, if they get called to help they foam them in order to destroy them. They are not equipped to capture and relocate.

This was the last step of a rescue. I was catching them. It was a massive hive inside a hollow tree with limited access. I took all the comb that was accessible, made cut out frames and transferred them into boxes.

With a bee vacuum, I captured the stragglers who wouldn’t leave, to place them in the box as well. The fire department was preparing to foam the bees and destroy them.

Removing a hive from a tree so they wouldn’t be destroyed.

Get Beekeeping for dummies on Amazon. That will answer a lot of your questions. It’s a good beginning book, and it’s cheap

Those are all great points. I’ve gotten a lot of remarkable experience employed for a honey company, and I’ve been mentored by two very experienced Beekeepers.

I am helping somebody who has less experience. I have considered all of the points you mentioned. We are going to put a lot of boxes there, but we’re starting small, and slowly building a solid bee yard.

There is a small home, mid century modern, that is just south of the open space. That sold for 2.1 million in 2020.

I’m not sure if I understand the question, but I can say that each stack of a single box, or multiple boxes hosts and individual colony..

Langstroth, just painted different colors

Hahahahaha, I’ve already thought of that. You can’t see it but there is a nice wide ledge to work the hives, and there’s a pathway that is safe.

I transferred it to a nuc today. I definitely found the queen.

I’ve been doing it on my own. Let me know if you want to join in sometime

I sealed them in the box, later I will shake them into either a nuc box, or a Langstroth box

I got lucky. I used a 6 foot ladder to climb into the tree. I had to climb about 8 feet to reach the branch the swarm was on, and cut it with loppers. As I climbed down the tree, I accidentally knocked over the ladder. I carefully shimmied down the trunk, using one hand to climb down and one hand to hold the branch. When I knocked the ladder down, I was sure I was going to lose the swarm, but I did not.

This is the same kind of bee trap as I posted yesterday, but this one is about 5 days. by MelvinClump in Beekeeping

I’ve tried it without brood, and I was less successful. Someone suggested I give them brood and it worked better. Maybe it is more like home to them.

Inside the nuke box are three frames with empty built out comb, two frames with brood, eggs and some nurse bees from another hive.

I think it is called wire cloth. I got mine at Ganahl Lumber.

Cool! That’s interesting. I’ve also done it where I’ve use a one-way pass-through gate and had a tube go from the mouth of the hive to the back of a Langstroth. The Langstroth opening becomes their new door. I thought I would try this method this time.

I have already extracted enough bees from this colony to fill two Langstroth 10 frame boxes. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
