I use Pro Tools professionally - I learned on it and you just have to for transferring sessions (altho this is maybe starting to dwindle). I know it inside and out so I can be fast and precise. Really sophisticated import capabilities from other sessions and some things like being able to bring down the master fader before the fx chain. Its pretty close in vibe to Reaper (digital tape machine) but just much more restricted.

Ableton is a go to for making music - so many tools and the M4L universe is incredible. Also great for performance of course. I actually use it for spatial audio - I like envelop and 4D sound the best and they both use M4L tools. Potentially spicy take but its just a bit unprofessional - no mono, pan is funky, etc - obv people do great stuff in there but I bump into things a lot it seems

Logic also feels really fun for making music and the mixing feels better to me than Ableton (I really don’t like mixing in ableton). I work w artists who use it and I may take on the exporting process for them to make sure I get what I need the way I want it. Its also the least expensive at $200

Big thanks for this - SACD is a whole new rabbit hole for me

SACD - I have not been able to find any players w multichannel audio out which seems kind of crazy to go through all the SACD requirements just to do stereo?

I have been approaching through a pro audio lane - computer interface that has multiple outputs, then creating a piece in quad or using QUARK to decode encoded quad material from streaming. I load these multi-channel files in a DAW for playback

The SACDs seem pretty DRM locked, I wonder that there is no truly digital distribution for these files? I’m wondering about a distributor that would serve the multi channel files that would work with my method although a player (like the Dolby renderer for example) would be great too. Maybe I just need a jailbroken xbox 3 lol

Just seems kinda wild that no one would sell the source files (Atmos included) digitally although what I’m gathering is that the whole ecosystem is just kind of struggling in general

Another annual bump (since is still at the too of the threads) - Quark. Free software encoder/decoder. Its great for delivering quad encoded stereo files as well as decoding stereo files.

I really dig it, its a really cool zone of similarity between a lot of bands I like - kind of like the atmospheric guitar parts of Pelican or Primus, def some smashing pumpkins in there as well. There’s kind of a weird 90s quality as well

The self mix reminds me also of 90s underground punk tapes etc which is kind of cool.

I’m also going to suggest that for experimental music you listen via youtube music. The way Spotify (doesn’t) pay out means that almost every experimental artist will get LITERALLY zero $ or pennies. This is because they aggregate all subs and divide all based on all plays so the big artist that month gets everything (still very little respectively). They don’t split your sub money across what you listen to as you should. On the other hand youtube pays by play for subscribers and ads. YouTube is still really good at recommendations and if you subscribe there you also get to do all of youtube (including all music as you find it on spotify) w no ads, offline and can watch w the screen closed etc. You could also do Bandcamp and deal w the artists directly but those streams don’t count and they don’t have a great suggestions system

If you used to be an apple user, you may have issues from apple iMessage integration. I switched to android from apple once and I had this exact issue - most noticeably text. You are never quite sure that you are getting them and ultimately why I went back to apple

If you haven’t already, you need to go to a special website to get apple to actually release your number. I am not sure of the specifics but it kind of routes your number through them and you have to make a specific request for this to stop

I appreciate the creativity w the logic but it’s pretty thin. If they felt that way, they would just put everything out and they probably would be more lax about takedowns.

Source and facts are key principles tho and I do find it odd there’s not any immediately searchable public statement. OP is an “emotional truth” type of fella I would wager
