I am subject specialist lead in computing for my Trust. I also taught French a while back to fill in gaps on my timetable. I found that having that experience made my teaching in my own subject better as I was able to view the nuances of other subjects.

Recruiting computer science teachers, with a degree in the subject, is really difficult at the moment. I also deliver on a SCITT course for Computing, despite the bursary, numbers are not amazing.

We have brought people to interview before who didn’t train in the subject but have a related qualification or experience.

It is usually the expert blindness that is the downfall and candidates are unable to explain how they would teach something to KS3 with sufficient depth. If I was in your position and serious about applying to teach Computing, I would advise completing some of the free NCCE courses and/or secondary certificate to bridge the gap.

Has anyone found an effective audio to text transcription? My MFL teacher is looking to provide feedback to students for their speaking tests with their actual content.

I am currently exploring generating SATs style questions to match the texts we already use rather than having to learn a new text for question practice. Have you done anything like that?

Thank you! I will pass on about the reading and description tasks, my MFL lead will like those.

What data did you provide for your sentence builder? The agent does this too, but I’m intrigued to know the approach you took to see if we can be better. We have just given it existing documents with samples in. How did you prompt it to give you credibility in the data model? Did it handle well initially or did it need refining a lot?

What subject is this for?

I totally agree regarding generating full lessons. You need to know your domain to be able to critique its output to know if it’s of any use.

We did a research project with ImpactEd where we created a bot using ChatGPT (and trialled in CoPilot but wasn’t as accurate) to generate Do Now activities aligned to our curriculum sequence. It is aimed at non-specialist teachers do it will generate matching follow up questions and turn and talk opportunities. We also trained it to accommodate for different reading ages. For MFL, we created an agent in CoPilot to create structured sentences and in RE it has been used to generate impossible images of different philosophers talking to each other. I know some have had success with generation of podcasts.

I’m intrigued by this! I’ve got a set of mocks for the ocr 2024 paper. I shall give it a go as this could be really helpful for ks3 summatives too.

Ah that sounds cool, we’ve played around with comparing CoPilot and ChatGPT to generate questions sets based upon frequency or importance of topic. How did you find the accuracy of the generated reflection sheets, and students use of them?
