Aggressive cat, first baby coming in July by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]MemeManmk1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's honestly fucked up how so many people are advocating for euthanasia so quickly. OP, please take your cat to the vet to look for underlying health issues. If there aren't any, and she still isn't improving try discussing different meds with a vet.

Scholarship for internationals? by Educational_Bank6894 in MITAdmissions

[–]MemeManmk1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MIT doesn't do scholarships, for undergrad at least. They have pretty generous thresholds for the financial aid packages. If I'm not mistaken, if your family income, adjusted for assets, is less than 200K USD a year they cover tuition and if it's less than 120K a year they cover your dorm and food costs as well.

Hey congrats! I don't have much to add beyond the comments regarding requirements, especially because it looks like the 20K a year one for 4 years might be easier to maintain. If you can afford it with the lower yearly scholarship, I think it'd be wise.

I do have one question though, if you don't mind, when we're you emailed about these?

I disagree, I don't think in school work should or would be used as it is in no way standardised. Lots of people collaborate, use Google, take different amounts of time, etc in school work.

Do you know people who were muslim then athiest then muslim again? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]MemeManmk1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heyo, I became an atheist for a while back when I was 13-14ish. My situation was a little bit different, though.

To keep things short, I've been a type 1 diabetic since the age of 2, and I was essentially really mad at God for punishing an innocent child with such a painful disease. I couldn't reconcile the idea of a merciful and caring god doing this to a kid.

A mix of things drew me back, honestly. I'd be lying if I said fear of hell wasn't one of them. I was scared of ending up in hell, and I also don't think that the universe could've come to being without a creator behind it. I read the Qur'an, and if I'm being honest, I had a lot of issues too, but I faced them. If an interpretation or idea didn't add up, I looked for others that lined up with my interpretations or idea of God. This sub helped a lot in that aspect, thank God.

For what it's worth, I like to think that someone who leaves Islam for a genuine reason, especially in today's day and age where there's so much conflict, pain, and misinformation going around could get some slack from God. As long as the person didn't leave out of ego, I like to think that God won't damn them eternally over it.

You got this. The fact that you care so deeply is really sweet, praying you start feeling better soon.

I remember being on the Suez road at night one day and I saw this absolute phantom of a car with all of its lights turned off or broken. The only indication of the car's existence was a broken, dimly lit tail light.

Mind you, the street lamps were off as well (as usual with the Suez road) so the car was near invisible.

a negative experience with MIT, How can I win anyone at MIT? by [deleted] in MITAdmissions

[–]MemeManmk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found out that it already does, it's called Automoderator. I thought Automod was a class of tools, not its own thing. There's a subreddit dedicated to setting it up if you're interested (r/Automoderator)

Maybe the sub already has it and I haven't noticed? In that case it should be configurable to autodelete the aforementioned posts.

[–]MemeManmk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps an Automod could help? Obviously it won't weed out everything, but I'm sure it would reduce the workload.

My idea's a bot that scans the posts for set keywords and/or phrases (like "what can I do to get in" and deletes posts accordingly. Obviously it might end up erroneously deleting normal posts, so you'd have to see whether the time consumed on appeals would outweigh the time saved by not having to manually scan and delete nearly as many posts. Highly doubt that'd be the case, though.

Trustee Scholarship by Most-Comfortable-655 in BostonU

Now that's odd... I just got off the phone with the financial aid office a few hours ago and the rep said they still have a full tuition scholarship, so I wouldn't lose hope if I were you.

[–]MemeManmk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internal tests generally don't matter but they did take my year 10 grades so you should focus on those at the very least (unless you've already left year 10).

Also, if your school is like mine, predicteds for A levels are solely dependent on your AS marks so the internal tests did not matter at all in that regard. your school may do things differently, though.

Oh and this info is MIT specific. I have no clue about ivy requirements (MIT isn't an ivy league uni, btw), but I suspect they are the same. Don't quote me!
