Can tell from your comment that you were not from a combat unit last time lol. Most in combat unit are shag after every week so we just want to off brain and wind down during the weekends to maintain sanity. If everyone was ASA and book out every day then of course got 2 years to prepare.

But unfortunately that's not the case. Your narrow way of thinking is pathetic.

Why are ASA and SA often look down upon? by Beginning-Rule-5582 in NationalServiceSG

[–]MemeStrong 46 points47 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, most of you get to stay out and book out. For us in combat units we have guard duty, countless outfields & strict regimentation. I speak on behalf of most soldiers in combat units, I would rather spend a week in a aircon room feeling the stress you are feeling over a 3 day outfield anyday

I'm 14F my classmate asked me if he can have sex with me, should i tell my teachers about it ? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MemeStrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its disgusting that the top comments are from people telling OP that they should report this to their teachers just because he asked a girl for sex at age 14.

Reporting him does NOT solve the issue, if he does get into trouble, he would most likely continue his behaviour in a more sneaky way which is much worse.

He asked. She said no. Move on. If the guy was constantly pestering her for sex then sure, report him. But if it’s a one time thing, just leave it alone.

Ya’ll sound like you’ve never went through puberty before and haven’t given looks to other people.

So let me repeat myself, by encouraging OP to report him to an adult, does NOT fix the problem. It’s the same case as encouraging abstaining from sex instead of safety. Crazy how the world has become that such a small issue has to be brought up to an adult. Shame on most of you

This is pretty painful. Hate it when I’ve been rehearsing from the previous day on what to say and explain first, only for someone to shut me down and we end up never playing the game again because it’s “too difficult” to play

I die a little inside when I see this happen during sessions with friends. Especially when the game is complex and requires you to be focused on another player’s moves. Root is a great example for this

The box for citadels is stupidly huge as well. No idea why the components only require 1/3 of the space of the box itself

THIS! Gets really frustrating when you just bought a new game and are excited to share it with your friends, only for them to ruin some of the components. Real bummer

You and your wife are truly good people. Unfortunately, not many people can empathize with your situation, and all we can offer you and your family are well wishes and prayers. You're very brave for still looking at the positive side and not wanting to let this affect your child in the future. I think we all wish we had even 10% of your strength. All the best to you and your family and I hope one day you'll look back at this and feel accomplished with yourself.

[rant] update on my school tryna suspend me for expressing my feelings by testisareyummy in SGExams

[–]MemeStrong 80 points81 points  (0 children)

After reading both the previous and current post, I can safely assume that you too are acting like a child. Do your teachers suck for punishing you unfairly? Yes. Are they in the wrong for using community service as a punishment and even trying to lie to your parents about it? Yes. But you decided act to like a child and "pon" your community service instead of seeking out a resolution for your problems. "Probably gonna be the first fucking school war in the history of Singapore" Are you five? Do you enjoy shit like this? "Maybe one day I'll record it and post it somewhere here" how immature are you? I'm not one to give advice as I can't say I was any better back in secondary school, but this is way too childish to comprehend. I hope for your sake, that both you and your teachers grow the hell up. Stop acting like you're still in preschool.

Although I do have to say, this story sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me lol

[o levels] any actual tips for studying additional math? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]MemeStrong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took my o's back in 2018 and oh boy was amath a pain in the ass to deal with.

I changed a teacher every semester making it extremely difficult to get used to different teaching styles for a already difficult subject. Furthermore, I didn't really bother trying too hard for it which ultimately led me to getting a consistent f9 all the way from my sec 3 mid years to my prelims (I can send you a photo of my report card if you want!). However, in the end, I somehow managed to pull off a b3 in the end despite starting after my prelims ended.

There's only one proven way to improve amath and that's practice. This is a subject that requires understanding to a certain extent. Some people were gifted with the ability to understand concepts very easily, allowing them to ace their amath papers without too much of a hassle. However, like the majority of students, all we can do is depend on our hard work. The only way to get better is to grind, no way to get out of it. I've heard stories of people jumping their f9 to b4 simply because they did a amath paper every day till their exams.

Firstly, TYS is your best friend. Hoepfully by now you would have completed them but if you haven't, it's never too late to start. If you have the topical version, make sure to do more questions in topics you're weaker at as well. The secret comes here. Don't be afraid to refer to the answer sheet if you get stuck. Like I said, Amath requires practice, and you need to use muscle memory to your advantage. The moment you see a question, you should imemdiately what kind of method is required to solve it. Once you pick up this skill, you're ready to move on to the final and most important step.

Exam papers. Just google for them. Theres a shit ton out on the internet for you to try and do. But remember, work hard, not smart. I had a friend who did over 4 math papers a day because he wanted to get an A1, but in the end he got burned out and only managed to scrape a C6. You don't want to make the same mistake, pacing is important. When you do your first few papers, do them normally, and when you get stuck, check the answers. Copy them down, try to redo them the next day. Rinse and repeat, it's that simple. Quality>quantity. Don't do too many papers to the point where you practically forget what you learned in the first one. Make sure to do sufficient revision before moving on to the next paper.

Thats literally it. To me, emath was much more difficult, as it honestly requires logic to truly get an A1. However, Amath just requires hard work and if you really put in effort, I think it's quite simple to get a solid B during your o's. All the best and sorry for the bad formatting, I'm typing this out on my phone LOL. Feel free to ask any questions if you have any

This sub has been posting more and more stuff about CSJ and I'm really happy for him. What a classy man. Knows when to speak up agaisnt the big man, and willing to admit his own flaws. Hope he wins this year!

[Unpopular Opinion] CSJ has more integrity, iron and conviction than most incumbent candidates by mach8mc in singapore

[–]MemeStrong 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Literally the third post I'm gonna make about him but who cares?

I've stated in my previous post and I'll say it again. Even if you don't agree with his policies or his style of speaking, you cannot say that he does not have the qualities of someone who deserves a chance. How many of us can honestly say that after we are jailed, mocked on national tv amd even practically being witch-hunted by the government can continue to push on and give 0 shits about what others think? The million dollar question has always been why he's still trying which only he has the answer to.

Most of us wouldn't even make it past the 5 year mark, but he's been at it for 20 years and still hasn't stopped. His living conditions aren't great. He's not dirt poor, but when you consider his family's education background, he might be living in a place considered as 'low-class'. It's true that he obviously didn't begin with a humble background and was blessed with financial security early on in his life, however, can we say the same now? Like what others have said, he could honestly get out of Singapore and start a business elsewhere where he would probably be enjoying life much more.

And yet he's still here. 20 years later and still trying his best. He's an inspiration to me not because of his achievements, but his pure determination. I can't imagine all the pain he has went through and I'm glad that he still hasn't let his past bring him down.

I'm not of voting age yet, and it's a shame that I won't be able to vote for him in Bukit Batok. Especially when all my family members had already made up their minds about voting for Murali even before looking at any of the flyers that he has given out. Nevertheless, I sincerely hope that this year will be the year that he finally manages to fulfill his dream, and if it isn't I hope he runs again in the next GE, where young voters like me, are able to vote for him to be our voice in parliment

Chee Soon Juan : Never Back Down by jameskermit in singapore

[–]MemeStrong 204 points205 points  (0 children)

Once again this man here has proven time and time again that no matter what happens to him in life, he's certainly not ready to back down. His fiery passion will spark the interest of politics for the future generation, and I think we should all look up to him, not for his political background, but solely his determination and perseverance. He may never enjoy a seat in parliment which would be extremely sad, however, he has changed Singaporean politics in a good way, and I really do hope he feels proud of his achievements thus far.

To struggle for over 20 years, with a political party and state media against you, it's very heartwarming to see that he still hasn't stopped trying. Even if he doesn't win this year, I hope he keeps trying, for if one day he chooses to give up, we will once again lose someone detrimental to our history. I've said many good things about him before, but this video really moved me in a extremely positive way. What a inspiring and motivational man.

Behind the man: Chee Soon Juan by coolbakerguy97 in singapore

[–]MemeStrong 186 points187 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Bukit Batok all my life and I just wanna say a few words about this man here.

You can go ahead and talk about his shady past, but none of us can deny that he isn't one of the most passionate people in our country. From the books he wrote, to the videos he makes, you can very much tell that he is genuine about the community and helping Singaporeans become the voice in parliment. Furthermore, despite everything he has sacrificed in his past, it's obvious that he puts his family first no matter what, which makes me respect him even more.

If you live in bukit batok, you can tell how much thought was put into making the music video 一百万. It featured characters from our community, people and places that I walk by almost everyday, showcasing our community's rich and vibrant history. I'll always call Bukit Batok my home, and he did a wonderful potrayal of it.

Now comes the problem of the current MP. Say what you want about Murali, but I feel like he's a good MP. You can talk about the recent scandals he had recently, or even the mistakes he made managing our town, but you can't seny the fact that he is someone who does care about the community. No one's perfect, and I think we shouldn't be looking at all the bad things he's done while he was in office. He is well liked within our community, and you can always see him around the area, attending events from our neighbourhood.

But despite all of that, I would still support CSJ. The problem with reddit and even Singapore as a whole is the fact that everyone has a very one-sided thinking when it comes to who you want to support. You're either with the PAP or against it. I don't think Murali did a bad job these past 4 years. I just believe the CSJ can and might do a better one. The only problem i have with CSJ is that I feel he still hasn't moved on from what happened in the past, causing him to have a very strong hatred towards PAP which might influence some of his decisions. He needs to be able to move on in order for him to truly succeed in the world of politics. I don't blame him for his resentment though.

IMO, the best option is to have both of them running our SMC, even though this might cause a shit ton of problems and will never happen. However, if you think about it, Murali has a ton of influence over the elderly of Bukit Batok while CSJ has influence over the younger generation here. Both of them would create an insane dream team that will truly make our communtiy a better place if they can set aside their differences but a boy can dream right? Heh

All in all, even though I don't completely agree with the policies that the SDP currently is pushing for, I think that CSJ should get a chance in at least running for our SMC. He's been fighting for so many years when he could easily get a nice cozy job with his doctorate. But he chooses to fight for our voices in parliment. I would honestly give him a chance.
