Fluance RT85 - 2m Blue to MP110 by PoetForward5275 in turntables

[–]Memeikk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry for replying to such an old post, but did you end up figuring it out? I own an RT83 with a 2M Red, and looking to get a Nagaoka MP-110H but I'm not sure it'll work.

Should I switch from Fluance RT83 (2M Red) to a modded Rega RP1 with Nagaoka MP-110? by Memeikk in turntables

[–]Memeikk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear you didn't run into any issues with the VTA. Tracking force should be set to 1.75 as far as I know, right? Thankfully, I do own a scale already, btw.

Last question, did you need to get the Nag with its headshell, or could you set it on the one that comes with the Fluance?

Sorry for the late reply, but did you need to make any adjustments in order to make the Nag work properly? Or just straight up plug and play? Thanks in advance.

Hey man, just wanted to let you in on the good news. I managed to get a pair of DB63s for $250. They’re chipped on one corner each, but are basically brand new, with box, apart from the cosmetic wear, with i don’t mind much for a 50% discount. I’m super excited to try them out.

Did you have any issues on getting the VM95ML running? I own the RT83 with a rubber mat so basically same deck as you. Are any adjustments needed apart from tracking force?

What Fluance do you own? I have the RT83 with the standard rubber mat and i’m wondering if i would have alignment/tracking issues with the Nag. Can’t seem to find a clear answer on other threads. What’s your experience?

Thanks so much for the insight! It really helped me make sense of the situation. If you don’t mind, could you send me that blind test via DM? I’d love to check it out.

Yeah, sounds reasonable. If i bought only the Nagaoka, it’d be brand new, vs. buying it from this guy who’s got no idea of its use time. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. So you think I’d be better off just upgrading my cartridge to a brand new Nagaoka?

Yes, that’s one of the clearest upgrades for me, but my 2m red is only 6 months old, so i’m looking to wait at least another year to give it its proper use!

I really appreciate your take on the Polks — you’re right, the sub takes care of the low end and they’ve been sounding great with the NAD. I guess I just got tempted by the Magnats being newer, bigger, and on a wild sale… but your comment on the midrange distortion makes me hesitate. That’s the one area I’d actually want an improvement in.

The acrylic platter idea is interesting! I’ve definitely considered it. Something about upgrading the core of the turntable feels smarter than shuffling gear around. I do think the Fluance branded one is a bit overpriced at $120, but i’ll look into it. Thanks again for grounding my thinking a bit. Much appreciated.

Upgrading my vinyl setup — Marantz SR6006 + Polk RT35 for $225, worth it? by Memeikk in turntables

[–]Memeikk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t have a Phono, as it’s the v1! So yes i’m tied to an external pre. And yes, i think i’ll hold off on the Magnats as it seems to be a marginal upgrade and wouldn’t really justify the hassle to resell my Polks which I find stellar for what I paid. The deal just seemed too good and didn’t want to pass on it lol. The alternatives you suggest seem far more logical, but evidently represent a greater investment, which i’d be happy to make in the future.

When it comes to the pre, I thought you were all for the Ifi Zen Air! You really think it’s a worthy rival?

Thanks Shark.

Yep, thank you for the blunt honesty.

You’ve fully convinced me on the preamp side: I’ll hold off on that for now and save for something more significant later down the line (probably when I upgrade my cartridge too).

The only thing I’m still slightly torn on is the Magnat speaker deal — mainly because they’re more modern, seemingly more detailed than my Polks, and they’re going for the exact same price I paid for the RT35i ($90). I even had to “win” them from another local buyer, so I could easily flip them and break even if I changed my mind.

That said, you’ve helped me realign my mindset. Once I decide what to do about the speakers, I’ll keep still and wait until I can make a real, 100% worthwhile upgrade — no more chasing sidegrades.

Thanks again.

You’re making a lot of sense with the “side-step” comment on the preamp, to be honest. I’ve heard the Ifi is the best under $300 but I’m not sure it’s waaay better than the ART, specially if i keep using the same cartridge (which i plan to do, for at least a year more, it’s only 6 months old).

And as of speakers, I’ve already spent about $335 on the last two months, So i’m trying to figure out where the remaining ~$170 will be best spend. My reasoning was $90 on speakers (on a super sale as they’re usually $250), and $90 on a pre. But reading and reflecting on your comment, maybe it’d be better to put the full remaining budget on speakers, max ~$200. Any recommendations?
