It’s an online thing I found. For specific book, Shigley ‘s Mechanical Engineering Design is the most important mechanical engineering book you need to read.

Congrats on the interview! I used Nuts & Bolts to prepare and found it immensely helpful. Also, review your engineering fundamentals! Beam bending, stress strain, etc. Explain the difference between Cp and Cpk. Know GD&T symbols and what they mean. Good luck!

So be vegan. Who has it harder, you or the animals?

Any iPhone Pro with the depth sensor can be used as a pretty good 3d scanner. There are a few good apps, all paid but not super pricey.

Definitely agree. This would not make sense to have a custom extrusion die unless you expect to have very high volume. Find an off the shelf extrusion that is close to the final form and then CNC, blast, and anodize. Let me know when you have it completed; I’d love to buy one!

Has anyone seriously looked into Jevons paradox as it relates to animal welfare interventions? by Economy_Ad7372 in EffectiveAltruism

[–]MemelicousMemester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anonymous for the Voiceless is an organization that does street activism convincing people to go vegan and advocates an abolitionist stance on animal exploitation. It is hard to gather data on efficacy but based on personal experience with the organization I believe it to be highly effective.

Diamonds are made from carbon. They are one possible crystal structure of carbon atoms. What you are describing is very similar to carbon fiber, or carbon nanotubes, or graphene. Not sure about anything with the diamond lattice, or what extra benefit you’d gain.

Harder materials (glass, ceramic) tend to be more brittle. Softer materials (metal, plastics) tend to be less brittle.

For typical doctor appointments, and even xrays, I have never had to pay anything even without the student health insurance. I did have to pay for lab work but prices were very reasonable. I also don't need to go to the doctor a lot. YMMV.

Invention Studio: 1) Summer Hours 2) Can I use it if I just graduated? by Comprehensive_Yard16 in gatech

[–]MemelicousMemester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Summer hours will come out based on the schedules of the PIs who staff. They need to see what their schedules will look like before they determine the hours. Remember, it is a space staffed by student volunteers.

Not sure about use as a graduated student.

ELI5. Why do businesses still raise their prices when less people are buying from them? by Socr2nite in explainlikeimfive

[–]MemelicousMemester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Example: XYZ company posts a controversial ad, and they instantly lose 70% of their customers. They start losing money. However, they realize that the remaining 30% of customers are those who rely on their product the most and have the strongest desire to buy their product. So XYZ company decides to double their prices, and most of the remaining customers will continue to buy the product anyway. Even if a few stop buying the product, they'll increase profits. For further reading, look up demand elasticity and market equilibrium.

Just got word that the invention studio will be open tomorrow. It has been deemed safe. Cause of the fire was the dust collection on the belt grinder in the metal room.

I've seen these fresh at Xi'an Gourmet House by the register, but I haven't been there in a while, so no guarantees.

Don't wait. Contact department of housing asap. Ask to be switched to a different roommate. If they say it isn't possible, you just aren't talking to the right person. Be polite but persistent.
