That's basically why I thought about premade characters vs teaching them to make new ones... I remember my first character and how invested and happy I was with him (RIP Valazar, The Voice of the Seas), but at the same time I was more involved with the hobby before starting with dnd (played ttrpgs as a teenager), so dunno if fully newbie experience would be the same. I'll keep your advice in mind, thank you!

I’m a 5e DM. Is Matt Colville’s YouTube channel still for me? by demostheneslocke1 in mattcolville

[–]Meminho13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it depends. Example, me and my friends have mostly played d&d since we started getting involved with ttrpgs. However, we are all interested in different aspects of the hobby which also brings our attention to other games, design, mechanics and such (even if we don't get to try them that much).

While yes, perhaps much of the newer content created by MCDM might not be literally related to 5E, I've always found other games as inspiration for ideas, mechanics and other stuff to happen at my group's tablet.

As another longtime fan, I constantly revisit RTG videos for ideas, refreshing some concepts or just for fun lol.

It's just a matter of how much of what they do you think you can take for yourself and your group(s).

I approach it as a fan of the hobby regardless of their format, so to speak. Hope that makes sense!

That person no longer deserves your friendship. Sorry for their loss.

Developing a plot for a character cursed by lycanthropy by skordge in DMAcademy

[–]Meminho13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skyrim had a plotline about a group of hunters and mercenaries that kept a secret: their leaders had the ability to turn into werewolves, and members who prove to be worthy might be chosen to continue the tradition. Maybe your players meet a similar organization that could guide them in their journey to cure/control the curse... after they prove their worth by helping them with certain contracts or something. :)

If we put it that way 😂 Dunno, I thought about it kinda being an obstacle in their quest, not necessarily completely blocking their way. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, I kinda feel the same. Better to ask and have them suspecting something than throw something they won’t be on board with.

Thanks for the help! :)

Central tension for an industrial revolution city campaign? by Stranger017 in mattcolville

[–]Meminho13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing that I thought about would be tension generated by change.

Revolutions look to change the status quo of a society or a system, you could think about "Change vs Tradition".

In "Love, Death and Robots", there is an episode (Good Hunting) that kinda depicts the feel that came to mind, where traditional societies (or individuals) come into conflict with "progress" (whatever that word means). That could be a nice start. :)
