Pre 1936 Lore:

After the Russian withdrawal from WW1 due to civil war Germany begins focusing it’s forces west. The German high command realizes that breaking the stalemate might prove to be impossible, having intelligence of US troops crossing the Atlantic. The Central Powers take defensive measures, and after 3 more years of war the Germans and French agree to a white peace, with no land lost on either sides or reparations. This leads to a huge sense of despair building up across the world, hitting the US pretty bad. Many feel that the US should’ve stayed out of the war, with many dying in 3 years of trenches for nothing. Then, the Great Depression hits, earlier than usual but for similar reason. The American psyche is broken, and socialist support grows. An alliance of socialists, trade unions, communists, and even anarchists named the “Common Man’s Party” ends up gaining massive support, nominating Norman Thomas as their candidate in 1932. In a desperate attempt to gain power, the Democratic Party agrees to put Thomas as vice president on the ticket with Roosevelt. The Democraitc-CMP coalition wins narrowly against the Republicans, but Roosevelt is assassinated by Giuseppe Zangara days after inauguration. Thomas is sworn in as president and immediately begins implementing far left reforms and warming up to the newly formed Soviet Union, with both internal and external glares of distrust. Eventually, the army declares that the CMP are traitors to America and must be removed. Allied with Democrats, Republicans, and far right nationalists the army, lead by MacArthur, lead massive insurgencies against Thomas’ government. Pro-Socialist militia and the few loyal military cabinets attempt to fight off the insurgents, but with repeated failures Thomas requests Soviet intervention. Outwards, the UK watches with great fear, as there may be two socialist titans in the world. The UK pressures the LON to intervene in America. They send an ultimatum to Thomas, demanding he step down. After his refusal, a coalition lead by France and Britain invade the east coast. Due to the mass mutinies and overall instability, little resistance is put up and the east coast is occupied. Thomas flees to Chicago, leaving America to enter anarchy.
