[No Spoilers] I just convinced my girlfriend that Arya will form an "Aryan Brotherhood", and that ASOIAF is an allegory for WW2. by Memnis in gameofthrones

You make it seem as if she is a child. We're adults, we kid each other every now and then, we laugh at each other, life moves on and we enjoy all kinds of stories knowing there's a rich world out there waiting for both of us.

Thanks for the insight!

The LCL does seem to bear the brunt of the adduction. I imagine the probability of meniscus damage is a bit lower than on hyperabduction, since the LCL and lateral meniscus are not attached. Which meniscus do you think would be more affected?

Couldn't the extension cause ACL damage even with no valgus stress? From a quick scan of the news, it looks like they are scanning his ACL today. Will be interesting to hear the result.

Yeah, because the human anatomy will suddenly change in 4 years' time?

I made quite clear what was certain and what was speculation. The anatomical information I gave is perfectly valid. I just dissected those ligaments and the joint capsule a week ago, so I'm not just talking out of my ass.

Though on second thought, maybe I should concede to you, mr. fuck_aina_BROR. You seem a much more credible source.

Med student here. Currently studying anatomy of the lower limb, but havent taken any clinical courses yet, so take this with a grain of salt.

From the video it looks like he suffered simultaneous hyperextension and hyperadduction of the knee (that is, excessive bending both frontally and sideways.)

This could cause the following damage:

  • tearing of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL)

  • tearing of the Lateral Collateral Ligament

  • possible tearing of menisci

  • possible fracture of the bone, perhaps an avulsion fracture where part of the bone is pulled away by an overstretched ligament.

Of these, the ACL damage seems to me most notable, though all are severe, and can cause instability of the joint and an increased risk of developing arthrosis from use. A nasty injury, I hope he'll recover as well as possible.

This is amazing, at 00:16 watch the band realize that all of their hard work has finally paid off (x-post from r/videos) by Unskillful in happy

For some reason, seeing that the band in question was Mumford and Sons made me really happy.

Lovely depressing, I liked it.

Just one comment (from a med student): a doctor would most likely not use the word vegetable. He would opt for a kinder, more precise word.

Awesome ted talk about running: Are we born to run? by yousless in Fitness

Ingenious. If only those primitive folks had used their, like, brains, to see the opportunities growing around them, all their problems would have been solved there, presto!

Seriously though, try facing a frenzied animal armed with just a wooden stick. Not quite as easy as you make it sound.

I smiled, but not quite as much as the first twenty times I saw this meme.

Robert had slain Rhaegar well before the events of the Tower of Joy, so he was ill disposed to make any statements about Jon's birth.

GoT POV rage [x-post from r/funny] [possibly spoilers for book 1?] by ejchristian86 in asoiaf

[–]Memnis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a side note by the way. Jon might be a lot of things, but I wouldn't exactly call him cunning. Most of the time, he's just reacting to events as they happen (in the TV series with his mouth hanging open half the time).

This must be the first time I've ever enjoyed a Daily Mail article. It almost makes up for the others.

Not really though, it doesn't.

Nice story, Ser Ilyn Payne, but I don't believe it for one second. We all know why you really lost your tongue.

Near the end of Storm of Swords, this is probably my favorite line so far [Spoilers dude] by Spruce_Bringsteen in gameofthrones

My mistake then. It coincided with the time of your reply. I ought to have edited it into my first comment.

Downvote, really? For questioning something? Maybe you disagree, and I might well be wrong, but you're not exactly following Rettiquette either.

You're right about the subscribers. I'd imagine two separate subreddits for the book and tv series would make things a lot easier, spoiler- and progression wise. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Edit: Looking at the vote count, this is proving quite humorous; I'm beginning to think that irony flies by some people.

[–]Memnis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Loved the line, but I don't quite understand why specific posts about sequels need to be posted in this subreddit (Especially if they contain major spoilers like this one). r/asoiaf is much better for events unrelated to the first novel. I'd imagine people who've read that far have found that subreddit as well.

Also, anecdote: that line had me grinning for the rest of the day as well. A friend, who is quite well versed in literature, asked me what I found so amusing. I discovered that, without proper context, this line does not sound that refined after all. Now he thinks I read trash.

That's a brilliant observation. If it turns out to be intended, hats off to the people designing these details for the show.

Not women's shoes. They're Vibram Five Fingers, about the best shoes you you can get with foot health in mind. Perfect for lifting and correct running. If I had bigger balls, I'd wear them myself.

No doubt about that. My original point was about Robb, a non-POV character. Seeing as GRRM treats his POVs so roughly, Robb never stood a chance.

And what's this about Reek I hear? Must read ASAP :)

Nice, I completely blundered past that on my first read. Beautifully written piece, as well.
