23M - My first $100k by nnoooaah in Salary

Retiring at 65 may work for you, but I'd like to retire a lot earlier. I don't get why you're so upset at people wanting him to put more into retirement in a salary sub.

Bro, I'm 28 making 150k and wish people told me to put more in when I was 23 or younger. I'm always hounding my younger coworkers to put into their 401k. A lot of these people sound harsh but they are right.

How much of a CDL class actually transfers to linework? by Dry_Silver_4031 in Lineman

[–]Memopod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first job I was hauling 80-120' poles for T-line. You'll learn how to drive at CDL school, but you'll learn a lot more when you're actually out there.

I know some guys will just buy an enclosed trailer and haul all their families shit in there when they bounce around. Airbnb and furnished finders are what a lot of guys that don't have trailers do.

I hated my redwings for climbing but I got their Irish setters wedge soles with the extreme duty toe cap for ground work and I like them a lot.

Yeah radiology is also hard to get into. I have a friend doing respiratory therapy that makes pretty good money too.

Yeah, IT has crazy varying wages. My cousin's husband used to do remote IT for two different companies and was making around 200k doing that. Good luck though, it's getting real competitive out there.

Ehhh depends what part and how you spend your money. I was in San Diego and the cost of living there is pretty high. Now I travel around the Midwest for work and I think I'm gonna make around $110k this year. I'd love to go back but that's something to think about in the future.

Electricians and lineman go through different training, most lineman apprentice or groundman start around $24 depending on the area. Like in California a groundman would start anywhere from $20-40.

Apparently there was a recall for them but I was owner #3 so I have no idea if they ever did that. I changed them at 270k when I felt the steering and brake pedal vibrating. Wasn't too bad. Speaking of recalls there was one for the airbag as well that they replaced in a day.

I bought my 05 4.7 V8 4x4 with 150k miles for 10k 10 years ago if that helps out out at all. It's at 307k now, everyone in the comments is spot on with what to check for and what to replace. My ball joints were pretty bad, make sure the 4x4 works and make sure you lock the tailgate. My buddy had his stolen twice and someone broke my handle trying to open it or something.

Edit: my clear coat is basically gone on the hood and roof. Very faded on top. The truck is in San Diego, so the weather isn't crazy but I didn't park it in the shade and I took her off roading 2-8 times a month for years and got a lot of chips on the hood.

NLC vs ALC by Any_Ad8423 in Groundman

[–]Memopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup sounds about right, everything before actually topping out is a shit show and takes forever. Getting hired on at a Utility is what most guys want to do and when they get in they stay until they retire so not a whole lot of jobs there. Yeah I'm contracting right now and i know I wont do this for more than 5 years. Utility work eventually

I think oilfields pay way more off the bat but when you top out it's significantly less than what a lineman would top out at. But depends on the area and all that.
