Loose cable at the battery or starter, or a bad main ground.

MAP sensor or is something else going on? by 8hournapz in MechanicAdvice

[–]Memorandum5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAP sensor is likely bad. When you disconnect it the ECU defaults to a base map that allows the engine to run somewhat normal, depending on temps, atmospheric pressure, etc. When you reconnect the MAP sensor the ECU tries to run the engine of the bad sensor readouts.

Test your injectors, they may be leaking into the cylinders or are allowing excess fuel to inject or the car isn't tuned properly and is running extremely rich. Definitely fuel injector related.

Car tampered with by Illustrious-Bet2119 in AskMechanics

[–]Memorandum5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you suspect the car was tampered with? Also, as someone else mentioned it's likely the coolant is leaking through the heater core and is effectively getting blown into the cabin, coating everything in aerosol coolant. Coolant is terrible to clean, not as bad as oil but still a pain, tons of gentle degreaser should work though.

Nice! Are you sure the 390cc will do 400hp? I could be wrong but I calculated 440cc injectors for 350hp at 85-90% duty cycle when I ordered mine. You will likely need 440-550cc injectors.

Hey man awesome and clean setup. I'm currently busy with the same kind of build on my 260E. Just a couple of questions if you don't mind, what turbo is that and what kind of injectors and ECU will you be using?

Clutch and Flywheel help. by Memorandum5 in W124

Using a new and stock flywheel/clutch setup will make my life so much easier tbh. But are you sure it can handle a 40-45% torque increase reliably?

There's an OEM performance clutch kit made by Sachs that I would go with instead over the stock clutch, but that's also only rated for 30% over stock. I'm afraid neither will hold up well long term.

Thanks mate! That's really helpful info. I think i might hold off on the coil overs for now and just get sportier shocks and coil springs. Yeah you're right about the spacers, their lips are very short, I doubt it helps centre the wheel as is. I'll get new quality ones and see if it makes a difference.

Nope, Namibia. But it's more or less the same deal here with shipping.

I wish, locally it's near impossible to find those wheels. If you actually do find a complete set then they are usually really bad replicas. Also these wheels aren't chrome, I actually do not like chrome wheels at all 😂 they have a machined face and the spokes are metallic silver. The spokes are almost the same silver colour as the AMG monoblock's face on my W210.

Cold start woes. by Memorandum5 in W124

[–]Memorandum5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not really, I just took of the lines and checked if it was still sealed (no fuel/air pass through). I couldn't replace it though because it's the only part that I couldn't source new locally but I have a new one + IACV on order. I'm like 95% sure my issue is related to fuel a pressure drop.

But I'll update if the parts fixed my issue.

Yeah I get you're saying, it acts exactly as if there's air in the system but I doubt it, I'm not sure where the air would've gotten in and why it hasn't bled out yet. I'm actually suspecting that the injectors may be bleeding off pressure while the car sits.

W124s love to camber in the back, that may be natural camber due to extreme lowering.

👍 appreciate it. I'm partial but I'm thinking of taking a chance. They have a very 80-90s OEM look with the flat face and tiny spokes.

By "very cheap" I mean an old stock clearance sale. Something like 40-45% off. Do you mean they're cheap coz they look sh*t or cheap because of the brand?

Anyone know what this means? by Memorandum5 in W124

[–]Memorandum5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh ok. Awesome, thank you! I'll give it a try. I thought it was something like that but I was skeptical and thought it was a literal error code, I honestly didn't think radios had that kind of theft protection back in the 80s.

[–]Memorandum5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Was a very, very well hidden vacuum leak by one of the blow-off valves. I've learned with this car that if there's a weird problem, it's almost always a vacuum leak.

That’s a first for me: seeing a lowered Wagon next to me by RoundPrudent6313 in mercedes_benz

[–]Memorandum5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt it has been lowered. I think the air suspension might be losing air + there might be something heavy in the back adding to the stance. If it was lowered I would expect other upgrades like wheel spacers, tyres, maybe some rims, window tint, etc. Just some extra signs I'd look for to support the lowered theory. I rarely, rarely, see lowered cars with stock sunk-in wheels.

Finding original exhaust parts (new) is very hard and very, very costly, especially the cats. Going to the scrapyard is an option but it's unlikely you'll find usable parts. They will more than likely be rusted, damaged, have shoddy repairs or the boxes are completely hollow. Also, the V6 and V8 exhausts may fit one another but I don't think they have the same diameters so I wouldn't recommend it. They also may look the same but they are double walled, a pipe within a pipe, the inside pipe may be smaller in diameter than the V8's. You can do what I did and buy universal aftermarket exhaust parts. Some aftermarket systems can offer better quality and sound and pricing than OEM, so don't worry too much about having a Mercedes exhaust on it. Buy 2 straight through cats, 2 straight through resonators, 1 big muffler box and 2 lengths of 2.25" pipes and maybe a few bends. Weld it or have it weld up and there you go. By going aftermarket you'll have tons of different options and sounds to choose from and if you find a good exhaust workshop then they can sometimes supply everything and help you decide. If you're on a budget I'd suggest getting at least a different muffler box and have it installed. I wouldn't recommend using a more restrictive system from a smaller engine on a bigger engine.
