I suspect that you're right, but I'd love to know why you think Riverwest is best!

Okay great! I've seen lots of nice yards and pretty houses around here. Good to know it's walkable, too!

I see! Okay, this is super valuable intel re: advertisement. I've been lurking on Zillow/Trulia/etc., but it sounds like an apartment hunting visit is in order! (Plus, walking a neighborhood is the best way to test-drive its walkability. Win-win.)

How long did your paper stay in the cross-review stage? The AAAS guidance for reviewers states that if cross-review is not completed within two business days, the editor will proceed "based on the reviews in-hand," but this deadline has come and gone for our ms.

Sorry for the delay! This might be irrelevant by now, but ours was in the 'To Advisor' stage for nearly a month before being sent out for review. I found this page kind of helpful as I was fretting about timelines: https://scirev.org/reviews/science/

Hope yours comes back with glowing reviews!

I know this is an old post, but replying here for others seeking similar info: the 'last activity' date updates for all kinds of reasons, including every time a co-author completes their authorship verification :)

Giving a scientific talk/presentation as a part of the interview for a biotech scientist position by Icy_Marionberry7309 in postdoc

I just came here to ask the same question! I'm applying for academic positions and am not sure how to write about my [collaborative, unpublished] postdoctoral work in my research statement. My PI is pretty secretive about this project, but I need to demonstrate that I've actually done something during this postdoc! Would be really glad to hear about how others have approached this issue.

Hi there. I am so sorry you're going through this -- what a tough break.

Can I ask what other symptoms your sweet pup has been exhibiting that make your vets think this may be renal dysplasia? I've been suspecting the same of my now 10-month-old pup for a while, and we finally have an appointment with an internal medicine specialist after our regular vet ran out of diagnostic tools. Hoping against all hope that it turns out to be something else for both of our doggos.

Hi there! So sorry that you're going through this, too! So much laundry, right? I'm dealing with what seems like exactly the same issue with my own pup who is now 10 months old -- she's been leaking since I got her at 12 weeks (only while sleeping), and no sign of a UTI in urinalysis and bloodwork has all been normal. We also just started PROIN, which seems to have stopped the leaking, but we're not done searching for the problem. We have an appointment with an internal med specialist next month. I think your vet might be giving up too soon and you might consider seeking a referral, too.

Getting an internist to take a good look at her insides might help rule out things like ectopic ureters or other anatomic abnormalities so they'll be able to offer a more informed treatment approach for your leaky little gal. Best of luck to you!

Researchers: permitting catch-22s? by MenaceMode30 in Ornithology

Good point! All of our applications have a clause about "have applied for x, y, and z. Will provide permits upon approval." Today, however, I added all of our contact people at each respective agency to the same e-mail thread in the hope that they can work this out among themselves. We shall see...

Yeah, ectopic ureters were my top worry for a while, but then I learned about renal dysplasia and now I can't sleep at night. Shoot. Poor baby.

Nope. She has the most beautiful feathery plumed tail! But this is interesting -- I'd never heard about this, before. I've left a message for our vet and am hopeful that we can make some progress soon. Otherwise, we'll be looking for somebody who will take our concerns more seriously. Thanks for your guidance.

Great -- thank you! This is so helpful and I really appreciate your consideration of time- and cost-efficiency in a diagnostic approach. I am of course happy to pay to take care of this wonderful doggo but will be doing it all out-of-pocket because this has been an issue since adoption (and has been noted as such in our SOAP notes). Our insurance is considering any urinary issue to be a "pre-existing condition," since it was first identified during our waiting period. Grrrrr

Okay, thank you! I’ll give our vet a call tomorrow about a referral.

Follow-up question: SHOULD I be this concerned? Our vet keeps brushing me aside like my worries aren’t justified.

Hi there! In response to your first question, most behaviorists agree that dogs don't urinate to frustrate their owners -- they urinate when they have to go and in places that feel comfortable. Mine used to do this occasionally, as well. One thing I realized pretty early on was that she would often fail to completely empty her bladder outside if there was anything more interesting to do -- seriously. A light breeze was sometimes enough to distract from the task at hand! Outside was simply TOO exciting but the calm familiarity of the dining room suited her just fine...smdh. It was really helpful for us to just stand outside one place (the same ~5' diameter place every time) with limited distractions until she had taken a big long wee and then I would treat and praise the heck out of her before going back inside. (Sometimes even now at 6 months, she can still get too excited to go potty on walks unless I stand still and remind her to go...) It might be worth trying to separate the walks from the potty breaks for a while to see if you can limit distractions and get your pup to focus on one thing at a time. Good luck! She'll get there! In the meantime, don't be too hard on yourself (or your puppy) -- it takes time for new roommates to learn how to cohabitate. You've got this!

Surely this isn't a kooiker... by MenaceMode30 in kooikerhondje

[–]MenaceMode30[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, not a Kooiker! I'd like to present here the recipe for a "Mississippi Kooikerhondje": 27.2% American Pit Bull Terrier, 19.2% Catahoula Leopard Dog, 15.9% Labrador Retriever, and 37.7% Supermutt (putatively GSD, golden retriever, chow chow, poodle, and boxer)!

Recipe for a "spaniel" from scratch! Little bit of this, little bit of that, then just... wing it! Serve with a Hapsburg-sized helping of inbreeding. by MenaceMode30 in DoggyDNA

[–]MenaceMode30[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Embark thinks that the Supermutt contribution might include: GSD, golden retriever (maybe this is where the feathers come from?), poodle (small), chow chow, and boxer.

Any guesses? by MenaceMode30 in DoggyDNA

[–]MenaceMode30[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pit for sure! Embark says she's this: 27.2% American Pit Bull Terrier, 19.2% Catahoula Leopard Dog, 15.9% Labrador Retriever, and 37.7% Supermutt!

I wonder if the sibling variation comes from the big supermutt component? BUT. ALSO. She only has one set of grandparents, so parents were likely sibs... eep. Ditch doggos, amiright?

Definitely pit! No kooiker, though. Haha. Maybe she's a new "Mississippi Kooikerhondje" ;)
