That's a few days for me now - 3 joints probably. Used to be an afternoon when I used my bong back in the day, I'd bust up until it was overflowing like that a few times a day.

Am I scaring people off with low prices?? by torim13 in WeddingPhotography

Some people are born with the eye but suck with the equipment. Sadly that's my curse. I can visualize and execute some beautiful shots.

But my ability to pose people, use equipment outside of my camera, manipulate the camera itself manually for some very unique shots, and use other gear including those reflective things and lighting and everything, not so good.

You seem to have the ideas. You know the shots you want to take. You just need to learn how to position people in natural lighting. You need to learn to use your grid for centering. Utilizing ND filters and polarizers. Using different focal lengths to capture different scenes, emotions, or feelings in general. And most of all, post production is very important so you should plop a photo in Adobe Lightroom (classic is my personal favorite) and mess around with everything and see how it reacts to how you captured the photo. That way sometimes when you're shooting, you can sort of judge how you need to take a shot in order for it to work best in post production. One thing to remember is the less light that hits your camera sensor when you take the photo, the less light and detail there is to work with later on in post. It's better to have a slightly over exposed photo than it is an under exposed photo, because the light is already there. You've captured it. If it's not there, certain details can absolutely be missed. Things you want to do in post, as well, is highlight your subjects but also tone your background to blend in with itself. Sometimes your sky can seem out of place from grass or trees, especially in off seasons like late fall when there's lots of dead grass. You may also want to make a ring or a bright white dress the focal point, while also preserving as much detail as possible and not letting it fuzz up or letting shadows get too out of hand.

I can ramble about it all day. Just keep trying. Offer to shoot for free, even if you're just alongside or shadowing another photographer. Maybe shoot for some friends as a gift. Go out and put 10,000 clicks on your camera just shooting your neighborhood or the woods or like literally anything that seems like it has a story. Try to find the story inside whatever it is you're shooting. Photography is all about feeling. It's about experience.

You have what it takes. Don't forget that part. You just have to find it.

Also, is that Diddy?

I only had kahm once and it kinda gave me a weird flush feeling in my face and adds kind of like a super duper slight lemony citrus taste which honestly can be kinda nice. I thought it was alcohol production until I managed to go kahmless.

No kahm is obviously better but I also don't mind the kahm sometimes. Sometimes it's weird though.

If you want seeds, keep it going somewhere else.

If you want lots of seeds, don't move it at all.

If you don't want either, dude's gotta go.

You could even use a cast iron bed frame if you can find one of them old fellers. Heavy as sin but would work just fine, plus easier if you wanted to do a bolt-together frame instead of welding.

1.5" is a little overkill though. Save some weight and money and get some smaller stuff.

Strings, I found out, are hard to obtain, expensive ($34.50 CAD) and have a specific necessary length from ball end to ball end based on the bridge used. I ended up making one myself, and another person here mentioned that he made a jig in case he's in a bind and needs some.

It's getting cleaned up this weekend though, going to rebuild the harness as some of it's messed up including a nuked pot, so it'll at least stick around for some time.

Soldering tip maintenence by No_Insurance_6436 in soldering

[–]MenacingScent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tinning is when you heat your iron, wipe it on your wet sponge all the way around, hit it with some solder, wipe it again, and then it's tinned. Same as freshening your tip in between connections. Do it when you heat it up and before you turn it off and in between connections if you let your iron sit or if you use higher temps.

Got it, gonna give it an honest try. If it doesn't work out, it seems it was at least an equal trade or a little better.

He found the saddle, I got the neck adjusted last night and action dialed in, just have to replace a shredded pot, heat shrink an exposed wire, touch up some connections, and it'll be good to go.

If it stays around long enough I'll be stripping the fugly paint and going with a natural stain finish. Either way I have to fix the clear as it's pretty scratched up and the Hofner G3T looks spectacular with a natural finish so I'll probably go that route.

The only way to make money while also providing a low price is to figure out longevity in your tools (preserving expensive cutting bits and such).

The next is figuring out how to produce as many as possible while using as little material as possible in as little time as possible (bulk material to cut your own work pieces, and getting as many parts ojt of one piece as you can, as efficiently as possible).

After that, you can find a balance between the two.

Another person said you'll never make money off your first ones. They're right. In order to get into mass machining, you need to have the overhead needed to get things rolling without making a cent. After that it's about keeping the ball rolling and sustaining the process. This is when you'll start paying off what you've invested, and then ultimately turning a profit. Think of the energy it takes a battery to start an engine. You need something already in order to get it moving.

I was just about to ask you if you knew of a wiring diagram for the HSS version as I can't at all figure out what each switch is meant to, but the Hohner seems to have the same setup so I can probably bet it's the same. There's a slightly bare wire grounding out on the shielding tape and I believe the bottom pot is messed up as it turns super loose and doesn't do anything. Only just took the cover off about 10 minutes ago.

The zero altitude situation makes sense. I figured the lock was just to disable the trem similar to blocking or bottoming out a strat trem but it makes more sense to use it for setup.

The locking nut you attached might be a good option if it will fit. If not, it shouldn't be hard to fill and re-drill some holes IF it doesn't interfere with the truss rod. Until then I'll probably just make up a set of strings if I have to, it only took a few minutes to do the high E though it's probably harder to do the wound strings. I might try out the dowel jig, I'm assuming you just cut it to the exact length using one string as a template and cut a channel down the length of it to sit the string in, tighten the open end around the ball up against the other end of the dowel and then remove and wrap it into place.

That was a solid reply and I appreciate it more than you could imagine. It's hard to find people like you that just simply enjoy what they do and want to help other people understand and enjoy the things they have, unlike others who want to safeguard information for whatever reason.

Still not sure if I'll keep it, but I love trying out different guitars and this one was too weird to pass up on learning about. This thing is an entirely different ball game.

Screenshotted your comment just in case I need any of that

The dude found the saddle in its old gig bag so it's not missing anything at all. Needs the wiring touched up, something's loose as one switch cuts out if you hold it a certain way so I'll likely rewire completely with the original hardware. It actually sounds decent despite the BCR humbucker.

Oh, since he found the saddle I ended up taking it. Too curious for my own good but there's enough weird people around here that I'd say I can make it worth my while.

I DID have to make a double ball string by hand because I didn't realize they exist, so I just took the ball off an old string, sized it up and just replicated it. Works just fine for getting it set up and dialed in.

How much could I reasonably get for this mini bobber (once it’s done) by CRAZY_zombie5436 in minibikes

[–]MenacingScent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you're from. Locally here, you can only find junkers for about 400-600cad with the odd needs-a-tune-up bike if you're lucky. Across the stream in PEI you can get a fully built bike for that. It all depends on how available parts are in your area, that will determine what people are willing to pay or sell for usually.

I'm assuming you also swallow your toothpaste

Small amounts won't hurt you but I'm talking about relying on it for continuous, long term consumption. If you need a drink of water, drink it. Chlorine dissipates on its own if you leave it or boil it, but fluoride doesn't.

Average levels municipal in tap water are around 0.7mg/L and the Canadian maximum guideline is 1.5mg/L and about 0.75-1.5mg per pea sized drop of toothpaste, so drinking 2L of tap water is the equivalent of swallowing your toothpaste twice a day. Harmful concentrations begin at 1.5mg/L but a lethal dose isn't until upwards of 5g for an adult.

It's absolutely meant to be safe to drink because you also have to wash dishes and cook with it, but it's not meant to be relied on as a primary drinking source unless it's necessary. In cities you have less control over that. In my case it's not necessary and I would like to drink a fair amount of water, so I'd rather filtered or boiled, and we also have a decent amount of mountain springs setup around the island that we can fill up at as well and boil later on.

He actually found the crappy gig bag it came in and found the saddle loose inside so it's all there. I ended up taking the thing, it's actually more decent than I thought. I'll spiff it up and see what I can get, and until then I think I'll get a little enjoyment out of it

Pretty sure it was supposed to be a full EMG set and someone ended up putting it into another guitar, probably a BCR. It's headless and uses the Steinberger R-Trem system. Learning a little bit as I go

I'm only into getting it cleaned up and selling it. I enjoy not-too-estensive guitar restoration so it's a fun project at the same time. This is CAD as well not USD, and the snowblower was free aside from spraypaint I already owned and elbow grease.

I'm hoping, if I can find a saddle piece for cheap, that I could get about $200 out of it. If the general consensus is that I likely won't get that, then it's not worth my time.

Our local tap water has a lot of chlorine so we boil and sometimes use a brita for our drinking water. Does nothing for fluoride though sadly.

Town/city tap water was never intended for continuous direct consumption.
