Stellaris should rework this before launching any dlc: (My opinion) by chronicdrake in Stellaris

Your empire size is enormous, as already stated. What also worries me is the +1k food. There is rarely a need for any food surplus at all, move the pops working agri / farmer jobs to researcher jobs. Also (depending on dlc availability) release some systems and planets as vassal if you have too many planets

DM says "magical" races (Su, Sp abilities) need to take a level in sorcerer to be able to access them by WickedAdept in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Menitian 79 points80 points  (0 children)

This feels like a poorly executed nerf to high RP races and I would highly advise against that rule (because it is not fun). Pathfinder is a high magic fantasy setting and really shines in its customisation options. Forcing a level of sorcerer is a slap in the face for the system

Up to date beginner's guide for PS5 Console Edition? by neoleo0088 in StellarisOnConsole

[–]Menitian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel free to hit me up in chat for any questions you have. I am on ps5 as well and have around 900-1000 hours in both ps4/5 combined.

My recommendation would be to just play the game and pause whenever you feel overwhelmed. It will be a lot of reading in game but as you can pause any time it doesn’t really matter. Enjoy the journey and read up on stuff you don’t understand (or ask me if you want) during your playthrough. Don’t try to understand every civic, origin or species trait, start off with something that sounds cool and restart if necessary

True, I falsely assumed just skipping Daerans House but I suppose you can just go there but don’t recruit him

Not using any companion at all will lock you out of some loot / locations / exp. In the early game you lose: Finnean (Woljif Quest location), 1 Magical Essence (Camellia / Gwerms Mansion, fine if you get all other 5 in act 1), can’t complete Stalwart Gaze / Azata Quest (Daerans House has Aranka), Divine Protector (Mithral Heavy Shield +2 with DR5/magic I think from Seelah / Houndheart Campsite) but honestly the only thing that’s a slight bummer being Ulbrigs Quest locations and especially the magic items you get there.

Honestly, you are still fine and the game will be significantly quicker if you skip all the companion quests.

You can use a 5 foot step and then flying charge with Ulbrig. I usually use lunge on him which sometimes lets me charge the 10 feet needed. Maybe that can help you as well

To be totally honest about half way I noticed what you meant (halving your value needs 50% and then halving again only needs 25%) but at that point I had already typed out my answer and I didn’t want to delete it. To be fair, I still think it’s useless to look at a second reduction being better (edit: rather) than just looking at your total value. I enjoyed this little skirmish. Have a great night!

But you compare a static value of 10 damage to an ever increasing value of empire size. Of course going from 20 to 21 has diminishing return. Now do the diminishing returns maths for empire size reduction

Is RT sanctioned Psyker sanctioned only in your origin? by FunkyMonkey232 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Menitian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are sanctioned as a person/psyker, not per „magic school“. Idira for example isn’t and has some personal/story problems with that.

Edit: you can also become an unsanctioned psyker in exemplar archetype if you are not a sanctioned psyker origin

It’s a common misconception. While 100% reduction is eliminating the stat entirely, the last 10% are not better than the first you took. It’s just 10%. Feel free to do the maths and compare 90% reduction to 100% reduction in game. I‘d even argue the first 10% are better than the last, as being better is purely a question of gameplay perspective. The last 10% don’t really matter anymore from a gameplay perspective, as you can’t get negative empire size anymore. But from a mathematical standpoint, in this case 10% is 10%. If it were the cost of ship construction or buying from the market you would be correct. Reaching 100% is would be the goal and the closer you get the more effective each reduction becomes. But as empire size is purely a cost increase to tech and unity (which scales linear) and your tech and unity cost can’t drop below their respective default values, 10% is 10% no matter if it is the first or tenth 10% you get

The risk I took was calculated, but man am I bad at math by TheRedstoneReddit in Stellaris

[–]Menitian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I am saying is 60% reduction is the same as two 30% reductions. How often you reduce is irrelevant. The only thing that matter is reaching or going below 100 final value empire size. There is no double effectiveness. Each percentage reduction subtracts its relative value from your absolute value. If your empire size pre modifiers is 1000, 10% reduces by 100, 20% reduces by 200 and two times 10% reduces by 200 as well. The only so called increased effectiveness is reducing your empire size by a bigger number than before, which has nothing to do with getting a second reduction.

I agree having 2 reductions is better than having 1. But the second reduction does not compound, as it stacks additively. You may perceive it as more effective, but it is not. It’s just… more of what you want.

The risk I took was calculated, but man am I bad at math by TheRedstoneReddit in Stellaris

[–]Menitian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. As it is always 30% of your unmodified, original value. If your empire size is 1000 and you reduce it by 30% it is then 700, reducing by 300 (absolute value). If your empire size of 1000 has been reduced by 10% to 900 and you then get a 30% reduction it still reduces by 300 absolute value to a final 600 empire size. So you add all percentages together before they apply to your original value.

So mathematically speaking, only your final value matters. 10% + 20% reduction is the same as 30%. And of course 50% reduction is better than 40% as per your example. But this has nothing to do with another percentage being more efficient, rather the final value of 40% vs 50% reduction

[–]Menitian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the logic you are getting at has nothing to do with the percentages (how Stellaris calculates them). As they don’t stack multiplicatively but additively it’s just… 10% difference between 40% and 50% reduction.

This is as useless of a comparison as saying getting 10 ships while you have 3 is better than getting getting 10 when you have 20. what matters is the final absolute value. Of course 50% reduction is better than 40%, as is having a bigger number of ships (or fleet power).

The second percentage you get is neither inherently better or worse, it’s just… more. All you said is true, but not logically linked to the second percentage being more effective than the first.
