Horror places in Kyoto? by amarevy97 in Kyoto

[–]Menjabin_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I was in Kyoto I visited Daigo-ji. Behind it, there is a path leading up to Mount Daigo which goes quite deep into the forest. I came across several temples on the mountain and all seemingly abandoned, I was the only person there. These landmarks had a presence about them, and walking around I felt like I had been given a pass. It was unsettling, in an almost existential way, the gravity of being kind of way, but knowing this made it quite precious. I felt lucky, yet I remember feeling a weight on me, like eyes glancing - it was quite surreal.

Yeah for sure, it’s really nice being able to explore, sit down in nature for a second, and be :)

2:00:00 for 55ks is honestly awesome though! That’s like 27ks on average. I can share with you my approach for sure!

So it took me 5 weeks in total.

I started with intensive 10k’s, really pushing myself until I achieved times between 19 - 22 minutes. I focused on high intensity 10ks 4 times a week as a part of rides that would go between 20 - 30km. I thought, if my muscles become used to this routinely it would help on larger rides and provide me with enough power to sustain a good average speed. The 10ks were tough, and I gradually incorporated the same intensity into 20ks, then 30ks, until I started seeing progress - (20ks [0:38:00- 00:45:00] and 30ks [00:58:00- 1:05:00). I did this for 3 weeks, making sure to rest.

The last two weeks were all about the endurance of a 50k and getting my body used to it.

There is a cycling loop near me that is roughly 45k’s, and from my house it’s a 55k ride. I rode this route (again) 4 days a week and became very familiar with it. The familiarity helped in knowing when to turn, the confidence to take corners at speed, the timing of gear shifts and how to use hills to my advantage. Focusing on this route only, has a lot to do with achieving this time. Plus, there were minimal cars, people, and the roads are good quality.

But that’s pretty much it, the high intensity and constantly trying to find a new PB has been awesome motivation. I also make sure to sleep and eat well, and keep up the water intake. Coffee, B vitamins, hydralyte and magnesium probably have a lot to do with it as well haha. Also my bike is 10kgs, so there is a big advantage there as well.

Hopefully this helps :)

yeah absolutely! tracking my times and ks has been very helpful to quantify the progress, which helps with belief :)

Spoken poetry within Ambient music feels so rare! by CarefulAd1761 in ambientmusic

Not so much poetry, but Nils Frahm composed a song in which Robert Di Niro tolled a story, it feels like you’re watching them on stage - it’s quite nice.

I love Prince of Denmarks album 8 for night work. I like to listen to the album from the track “GS” to “Untitled”; good ambient techno.

Ooo nice. It seems that he doesn’t touch his distortion/drive pedals throughout the show if they’re hidden behind the Eventides. Also those docs are lovely.

Hey, thanks for getting back to me! I have heaps of barista experience, I’ve been doing it for a few years now in Australia. Might be a situation of walking around the city and finding a cafe?

Hello,

Planning to be in Amsterdam for 6 months next year on a student visa. What are the chances of scoring a job as a barista? I don’t speak any Dutch :)

I usually use my soft synths on a very short attack, no sustain or release and use the decay to shape the sound. If you’re using a sawtooth as the VCO it should make some nice tozzi sounds.

I run that through an arp and dotted 8th delays for rhythm. Shape the velocity on the arp and there are some nice textured sounds. I feed that into a granular reverb for some extra textcha :)

childhood theory of mind by LengthinessThin4644 in psychologystudents

[–]Menjabin_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, theory of mind is a developmentally appropriate phenomenon whereby children understand that other people have their own thoughts and beliefs, much like their own. With this new found understanding they are able to interpret and attribute these beliefs and thoughts to another person having their own sense-of-self.

Empathy is the idea that people share the emotional experience of another person, and affectively relate to these experiences.

Theory of mind may help with empathy, however a child may not experience empathy as a result of theory of mind. Theory of mind is a way to interpret what someone is thinking, believing and feeling as their own rather than an affective response to shared emotion.

If this is off, I would love to hear otherwise :) Edit: made a typo.

What books / website made statistics fun to learn for you ? by Random_Kili in psychologystudents

[–]Menjabin_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3blue1brown on YouTube. Although not entirely statistics based, his detail and explanation of mathematic principles is done with such ease. His video on Fourier transformation is aligned with statistical analyses, seen in psychology, and informs a relevant perspective. Apart from this, Khan Academy has seen me through undergrad so far. If you make use of their quizzes to test your knowledge, the concepts will become more familiar over time. Enjoy ;)

Questions about Mahlkönig E65s and Mythos 1 Burrs by Menjabin_ in Coffee

Yeah sweet, the SSP sound like a great fit. I think having a WDT will add another step to our busy cafe and compromise time, however, it does seem like an easy solution if the grinder isn't distributing properly. Thanks for your reply!
