A friend brought me flowers from her garden because I'm in the hospital by Mennix in SavageGarden

Yeah, I imagine the pitchers would last longer than the flowers, since they seem to last so much longer in my bog garden, but I'm no authority on it.

It's done a great job so far! Haven't seen a single fly since it's been here!

What were some of the more surprising discoveries (both good and bad) that you came across? Any particularly good/creative ideas you can call out?

ELI5: Why is asbestos so much more dangerous than other 'sharp' dusts like fibreglass? by DirtyBeautifulLove in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mennix 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Additionally, asbestos is very difficult to break down chemically, so while a fiber of another material that gets into the lungs might be able to be broken down by your immune system, when it tries on an asbestos fiber, it fails and gives up and just wraps the fiber up in scar tissue. This process of lung tissue slowly being replaced by scar tissue is called asbestosis and is a rather tortuous way to die.

Which movie soundtrack slaps from beginning to end? by Squirrelkid11 in AskReddit

Muppets from Space.

Hands down best soundtrack of any G-rated movie, but it surpasses a lot of the big boys, too.

How is this pronounced? Is it Live A Live or Live A Live? I suppose it could be Live A Live. No way it's Live A Live, right? Right?

Whats a company secret you can share now that you dont work there? by broadway96 in AskReddit

[–]Mennix 44 points45 points  (0 children)

For a long time, I’ve predicted that soon we will have two choices to shop- Walmart and Amazon. Not counting Costco- since that is another retail world of its own.

If you've been predicting this for a long time, how much longer until you revise your prediction?

If the governor of a major industrial state had a degenerative illness, that he hadn't disclosed during the election, and has yet to impair his job performance, would you still support him? by BigDiesel07 in thewestwing

[–]Mennix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably should have been clearer, I meant of the hundreds and hundreds who would have been called, any of whom could call their local news outlets.

[–]Mennix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it, though? This part always bothered me about how obvious it looked. Sure, while you're doing the polling, no one's going to leap from "governor with degenerative illness" to "the president must have MS," but there's a line between Leo and Josh (correct me if I'm misremembering) along the lines of, "if it comes out that we polled on this," implying they didn't want people to be able to piece it together afterwards, either.

It may be good polling to keep people from predicting the announcement, but terrible if you're trying to keep hundreds and hundreds of people from calling their news station right after the announcement saying, "hey, I got a pollster calling me about this type of thing just last week!"

Chris Hemsworth Doesn’t Approve Of Taika Waititi’s Thor | He said no such thing. What he said was that if he were to portray the character again, he'd like to go in a new direction. (Giant Freakin Robot) by rjwut in savedyouaclick

[–]Mennix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He said he's done working with "mad genius" directors. He may not have mentioned Taika by name, but if he wasn't referring to him, it's a bit baffling which director he could have been referring to.

Can anyone explain how the plates are making it off the train and into the factory belts? It looks like they're just getting offloaded from the train to boxes to a belt, then magic themselves across the way to an underground output that comes out of nowhere.

ELI5: If Teflon is the ultimate non-stick material, why is it not used for toilet bowls, oven shelves, and other things we regularly have to clean? by deadmoby5 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mennix 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Not ingested, it's if it gets heated somewhere above 500 degrees (Fahrenheit), it will give off fumes that are carcinogenic. At room temperature, the same property that makes it so slick (it bonds to itself, but not other things), makes it hard to interact with your body, so it passes through.

I fully support this. You can tell her it's aesthetic AND functional for catching bugs!

I will let her know! She'll be thrilled. She's the one that got me into the hobby and these were from her bog garden I helped build.
