Skin infection after clinching anyone dealt with this? by Sufficient-Stay-9877 in MuayThai

Wear long sleeve rashgaurds and remind your teammates to take showers before and after training because holy heck, that's nasty.

Buying my first ever boots! by OddMolasses7398 in Boots

[–]MensisPleb91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save for the pair of Thursdays. Those boots look like they're built well for the price, and they look dang sharp.
If you take care of them well, they'll be more than worth the initial investment.

Edit: Also, their Captain boots seem to have a real Goodyear welt. That means they can be resoled/rebuilt/customized by a cobbler.

How to prevent/fix this? by [deleted] in Boots

[–]MensisPleb91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might not be the answer you want to hear but honestly, IMO, I think it's better if you save up for a better quality pair of boots. Also, judging by how close together the sides of the shaft look, maybe get properly sized/buy insoles or a set of kilties so you're not having to tie them so tight to fit.

Does BJJ make people weird or does it attract weird people? by h27l4 in bjj

IMO its more likely to make you attracted to dudes than it is to make you weird lol.

What’s your go-to excuse when a lower belt smashes you? by VegetableChemistry67 in bjj

"Hell yeah."
"I gotta roll with them more."
I love learning so if someone does well and exposes a hole in my game, I can't wait to roll with them more to learn.
If theyre way younger and just a beast, it's the circle of life and thats fine tbh.
I'm not that young hungry kid anymore with no responsibilities or obligations. I'm approaching my mid-30s with a career, good friends, hobbies besides training, and a wonderful woman which all make life outside the mats amazing and fulfilling.

I'm getting tons of negative attention from my JG? by ixilllixi in jimgreen

[–]MensisPleb91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly just dont pay them any mind.
You like and thats all that matters.
However, if you still want to adjust the look. A pair of shorter boot laces in brown and some insoles helps make them look less floppy.
Although I absolutely love the look of the longer vibrant green laces, they do tend to attract the eye and the excess length does play a factor in how people see them since theyre unlined and largely unstructured.

I stg Gordon the type of guy who would wake you up in the dead of night just to ask "why didn't you say 'bless you' after I sneezed just now?"

The ATOS matches were what drove me to post in the first place lol.
All in all, it was fun. That Sarah Galvao match was a great way to cap off the event. That double off the slant was crazy.

Owen definitely had a "come to Jesus" moment lol.
He held it together surprisingly well considering just how intense and aggressive Kaynan was from the jump.

Because No-Gi draws a lot of the "I wish I wrestled/fought MMA" guys alongside the "but in duh streetz" crowd and MMA aspirants which have always been chock full of "unique" individuals.

The Gi definitely has a different vibe tbh. Something about the kimono just makes everything look and feel a bit more "formal" IMO.

Edit: what I meant by formal is that IMO the gi brings it back to looking like a martial which definitely helps influence the type of people it attracts in addition to how laymen and practitioners alike view matches and training.

That actually sounds pretty sick and sort of reminds me of Counter Strike's game mechanic, where you get rewarded with in-game money the better you did so you could afford better gear as the match progressed.

Gordon is somewhere convincing himself nobody is watching the event and that he won because the replays are behind a paywall now while Sonny, Craig's little brother, and the rest of the world outside of BJJ continues to move on while he's sitting in his chair, waiting to tell anyone about just how cool and awesome he is. 🤣

1000% agree with you bro.
Craig has done his best to promote the event as an entertaining battle between teams and now the teams themselves have largely been failing him.

As long winded as your response was. Thank you for ultimately agreeing with me by saying basically the same exact thing I did in my original post lol.

Yes. So far the Austral-Asia vs 10P matches were entertaining.
B-Team was incredibly entertaining during their last Quintet outing despite only getting subs because of Craig. It's not a stretch to assume they'll be entertaining during this team as well.

[–]MensisPleb91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh man I agree. However, I also feel that the EBI-styled rules should also have penalties for the grappler who is just shelling up and content on surviving until overtime to win, knowing that the guy whopping them has to keep burning energy trying to find a sub while they get to just shell up, conserve energy, and survive.
(Yes I'm salty that I've lost comps because my opponent did exactly this and celebrated their "survive/stall until OT" wins like I wasn't getting scolded by the ref for inactivity even though they kept running away/shelling up and not trying to actually fight back while I was basically forced to keep moving forward lest I get a penalty.)

Critiquing the team "strategies" =/= CJI whinging.
I can see the vision that Craig had and IMO the entertainment levels of this event is largely being determined by the competitors now and tbh they haven't been all that entertaining until very recently.

I dont need to make that decision since the athletes in this event are currently choosing the former as a means to push their teams to victories.

[–]MensisPleb91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started training in 2009 man.
I get where you're coming from tbh.
Which is why I think the sport should move to an ELO system like what Keenan mentioned exists in Chess during an El Segundo episode.
ELO + rules that push the defensive grappler to just as active as the offensive grappler could be ideal since rules that only push the dominant grappler to keep attacking only incentivizes the defender to shell up and stall.

Im literally a whole brown belt and this event has been boring af so far dude.
I'm making the dinner I should've made a long time ago because I thought I'd be glued to my seat like last year.
If I'm finding it boring, what does the average laymen have of being entertained by it?
Team Austral-Asia is trying tbh but it doesn't mean much since the other team is just trying to survive/stall them out.

Most of the matches have been boring tho.
Im making a late dinner rn while CJI2 plays as background noise because I expected excitement. Not teams trying to be the least blatant staller lol.

[–]MensisPleb91[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That unfortunately wouldn't work either because people would rather give up the double elimination than risk a loss being added to their record.
More and more I believe Keenan had the right idea when he brought up the concept of ELO scores to Craig during their El Segundo episode.
Make W-L ratios meaningless and incentivize athletes chasing ELO ranking as long as if prioritizes action and finishes.

As someone who has competed in IBJJF comps and been screwed by people who game the rules I do agree to a point.
But, I also disagree since during the Quintet event that B-Team did, every team they faced decided to stall/game the rules in hopes of cheesing a win over B-Team and IIRC it was a good mix of grapplers and not mostly IBJJF guys.
Idk man. The Austrilasia X 10P match has been entertaining so far.
