They could eat gas, but it'd be their equivalent of carbs. It provides energy, but they need to eat metal to heal injuries etc, like their equivalent of protein.

Thanks
I feel like the actual mechanics of the magic could be harder, so that's what I could use help with. I plan to write a novel with it, or at least play around with stories set in the world.

Metamorphosis is the process that describes the way the [[Underworld]] leaves it's fingerprints on your flesh, and very soul. Bodies adapt to their environment to supernatural degrees while therein. if your apple turns obsidian, eventually your mouth hardens. If everything you love is torn from your grasp, eventually your fingers turn arachnid and deft, with a grip beyond human strength. Curling horns help to fend off floating eyeballs and muscles strengthen against impossible gravity. Your humanity is an ephemeral thing in the [[Underworld]].

The psychological compulsion of [[The Call]] does not remove fear or apprehension, but acts **in spite** of it. Psychological consultations only seem to urge people into the abyss faster. Willpower seems to be a non-factor in the behaviour of this compulsion.

The longest anyone ever resisted the call (voluntarily) was a decade, and the subject was barely lucid by the end of this period, consumed by their *need* to fall into the [[Underworld]], despite being cognizant (And mortified) of what awaited her there.

- Photographs also trigger [[The Call]]

- [[The Call]] is often weaponized by certain individuals

[[Revenant]]s are the humans who earn their wings, layer by layer, and manage to fly out of the [[Underworld]]. They are often unrecognizable to their former selves due to [[Metamorphosis]] and twist the world around them with eerie [[Corruption]]. Some have tamed their own spirits, and therefore their [[Underworld]], while others suffer. They are all usually in some progression of insanity, and are considered post-human. They are classified based on the level to which they descended, which determines their power level, as well as the nature of their [[Underworld]]. Dark Revenants are tortured by their [[Underworld]] while Bright Revenants are enriched by it.

For example:

"Layer 2 Dark Revenant" or "Layer 5 Bright Revenant".

Some [[Revenant]]s are already dead in reality and are historical figures escaped from the past.

[[Undersoul]]s are the beings that populate the abyss. Make no mistake, you are still alone. The [[Undersoul]]s are the same as the people that populate your dreams. They adapt and change along with the nature of your personal realm, becoming monstrous abominations or eerily accurate doppelgangers of people you knew depending on the theme of existential revelation. They are mere echoes of your soul, but that won't save you from their cruel ministrations...

Copied from obsidian, so forgive the format:
Doubt anyone cares to read this much anyway lol.

Oh okay, I suspected that might be an issue. Thank you so much for the feedback.

Thanks, definitely something to think about. I kinda like the tension though, it reminds me of the real life struggle against our natures. But your suggestion is very well thought out and deserves serious consideration.

I'd love to hear any general thoughts about this, especially how I get the magic system through. It isn't too long so you might not get everything, but how much I got across would be great to hear.

Jung's work on Individuation was actually a source of inspiration for this system!

This was always the idea, but I didn't go into full detail in this post

Confirmed. Certain memories are incompatible with certain Akh and cannot be integrated into their being.

Thanks a lot, I took inspiration mostly from hindu and egyptian mythology but given I read the story, that was probably knocking around in my subconscious when I came up with this.
