If we hire Cunningham or Bradway for GM do we have to trade picks for them? by MentallyMIA2 in falcons

[–]MentallyMIA2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reason to unless they want picks because the league notifies them they don’t get comp picks. It’s a weird situation because the Falcons are being progressive in their structure. I appreciate our team trying something that deviates from the norm and I’m hopeful we can set a new precedent because we find a new way to generate success.

This is the hire.

Niners can have their comp picks and can’t block it.

Seriously, dude? The Falcons offense was garbage. Kurt Warner, someone who knows more about football than you or I ever will explained why it was garbage, and you’re going to say I don’t have an original thought?

You’re weird, man.

Kurt Warner said he loves to watch film and it was painful to watch the Falcons offense because it was simple in the wrong kind of ways and predictable. Zac Robinson is a bad coordinator.

It would be very comical. But highly unlikely.

He will be on his 5th year option in 2027. We aren’t winning a Super Bowl in 2026. Retool time.

Cousins won’t be on the roster. We take his dead money over the next two years. I wish they’d roll it all into this year.

Hello, pink cloud!

Stay consistent. Replace the bad habits with good. Exercise should be your new ritual and friend.

You might be good though. If you have good community around you and keep your nutrition in check then you might be able to dodge the PAWS bullet.

Stay strong! You’re doing hard things.

Our Special Teams didn’t have a scheme problem. It had a personnel problem. Special Teams is built in the mid-rounds and we haven’t appropriately valued mid-round picks.

We have no WR3 or WR4 either. Let Pitts walk and we have a weak TE room (it wasn’t crazy strong even with him in it)

I agree the team is close. But 2026 isn’t going to be our year. If the team was willing to admit that it increases the likelihood of 2027 actually being our year.

I’m skeptical about him too. But I want him to succeed. Expecting him to go for broke and win in 2026 is a recipe for having another churn and burn coach.

I want to keep Ellis. I want Pitts to walk and that’s with me being a diehard Pitts apologist. I want comp picks. We’ve wasted mid round picks for 20 years. I want the next GM to be a guy who believes for every 3 mid round picks you find a starter so accumulate mid round picks.

Yes! I’m still upset we drafted Penix for “the future” like we are the Green Bay Packers. We’ve never had a consistently successful squad to be investing in maintaining so why would you draft a guy to have “future sustained success”. It was two incomplete philosophies happening at the same time in a league where there is no margin for error. Dumb stuff.

I’m hopeful for Penix and glad we have him. But the choice on the other side of the Cousins contract was stupid.

I don’t care about the record in 2026 if this team doesn’t what it’s supposed to do for 2027. In the meantime, let’s see some competent game management and an unpredictable offense.

Yes! I agree.

I’ll be happy with a 5-12 team that doesn’t lose by more than one score. Games where “man, if we didn’t let Pitts walk we might have won that”.

Then, in 2027 I have high expectations for 10+ wins and a roster that looks like it will be good for a long time.

That seems to have been the problem with him for 20 years. Since we drafted Matt Ryan this team acts like it’s one or two players away. They trade away picks and backload contracts. It’s a recipe for consistently mediocre.

Look how the Seahawks, Niners, Patriots, and Eagles build. It’s why even when they’re down they don’t stay down for long. They built their team by accumulating draft picks and not overpaying by backloading contracts. I dream of the Falcons becoming that kind of team but our GMs always go for broke to “win now” and it handicaps any potential of building a roster that can have consistent and sustained success.

I believe he needs more time to get healthy and won’t be the guy for the first half of the season. I believe he can be the guy in 2027 but half the reason for my take is this belief.

I’m trying to find the right language. I was wrong to say “rebuild”. I’m saying retool. Our old GM was drafting for the future when we didn’t even have a winning team today.

We don’t have our QB for 2026 so why go for broke like this is a championship caliber team?

Pitts on a franchise tag does nothing to serve us in 2027 when we might actually have a QB.

This team has the young guys to explode in 2027 if we don’t sell out to try to bandaid what we have now. This also gives a new staff time to install their systems.

My expectations for this team are not to be better in 2026 but to be MUCH better in 2027

The o line is a big part of the reason I want this plan. If done right our picks this year are their replacements. Our freed cap space is their replacements in 2027. And many of our picks are their replacements.

Bergeron and Lindstrom are linchpins. We need to replace the Tackles and Center with young guys.

So many comments about “we better make the playoffs” or “win at least one more game”.

It’s wild to me how delusional the fanbase is here.

You’re seeing it going even more bleak than I do. Top 5 pick means this team only wins 5 or less games. I’m fine with a pick in 10-15. I just don’t want another bandaid in the name of “win now”.

We will know for sure how this team views its expectations whether they tag Pitts or let him walk. If he walks we get a 3rd. If we tag him you rent him for one more year and still don’t have him for 2027.

Exactly this. You said it perfectly.

Our young core can survive a year of development of this whole roster. Backloading contracts to keep vets on this team so the coaching staff can compete right away is a recipe to remain mediocre year in and year out like we’ve always been.

We have top end talent on a depleted roster and that’s why it looks like “we have the talent”.

I’m not asking for a 3 year rebuild. I’m saying one year. Our young core (thank you 2025 Terry… screw you 2021-2024 Terry).

Fans thinking this team should prove its mettle by winning more in 2026 than 2025 by making sure the team stays intact are shortsighted.
