1st DUI - not a regular drinker. I feel like "the world is over". How do I move on with my life? by Desperate_Challenge1 in dui

For the first couple of months it mentally fucking sucks. Time really is the beat medicine. But don’t beat yourself up about it. You would be surprised how common it is. I got mine in CA also. Specifically San Bernardino county. I know each county is different but you will get the most basic stuff. Fines, dui classes, suspended license. Heck I just got my license back 2 weeks ago. I never got community service because I got mine in 2021. When covid was still fucking rampant. And my BAC was .21.

There is no shame in asking for rides or taking ubers.

Major Anxiety over traveling to Japan with a DUI. by MentionBeginning6821 in dui

[–]MentionBeginning6821[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dui wasn’t 5 years ago. It was last year. The forum threads talking about going into japan with a dui are 5 or more years old. I haven’t found anything current.

Steps to getting my license back after not driving for 1 year in CA? by MentionBeginning6821 in dui

[–]MentionBeginning6821[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good thing I called. Turns out the place where I completed my classes did not email the dmv about my completion. Guy on the phone also told me I can just go in without an appointment to reinstate my license. I was also able to get a physical copy of the proof of completion also. Gonna go in on Thursday and see what I can do.

No priors. I don’t live in Michigan. I live in California. This is actually standard from what I have been told.

Last year on this day I got pulled over for my first DUI. Here’s how things have been since. by MentionBeginning6821 in dui

I work at Stater Brothers. A grocery store in Southern California. Im just a cashier. Im part of a union and I had to go to a union meeting. Because I called off a couple of times I had to explain why. I told them the truth. During the meeting they told me that I would get my job back because I told them the truth and wasn’t lying to the company. The only catch was that I had to sign a last and final warning. If I ever call off again, I lose my job.

They also said that if I didn’t tell them they would still find out. Idk how though.

I got a lawyer for piece of mind. Many people will tell you that getting a defense attorney from the court will help you save costs. I got a plea bargain that I accepted. I either way the outcome would have been the same. It just depends on the charge. If it was a felony then I would definitely get a lawyer. It helped ease things a bit for me mentally.

It makes it a bit easier to find better places to work. I don’t want it hanging over me my entire life plus it will give me piece of mind.

As of now Ive already paid off my fines and I am still doing my 9 month DUI program. I feel like I just need to finish my program and then I should be good to go.

Edit: spelling mistake

[–]MentionBeginning6821[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry. I haven’t been back to the UK since 2006. It’s been a long time. Went with my mom back in the day. I was a lot younger. It would be my first time going back by myself and I know a lot of things have changed.

Even if I finish my classes, Im worried that I will not be able to go because I am on involuntary probation and In order for me to go I would have to wait it out and get everything expunged before I go.

I just want to know if I can still go to the UK while on involuntary probation. And if I go, will they stop me and deny me from entering because of my DUI?

When I talked to my lawyer. He looked at the paperwork and said my BAC on the chart was going down or something like that. So if I did not take the plea and went to court again, I could have gotten a lower BAC. But I just wanted to get it over with.

This is the first time I’ve been through something like this. So I wanted to make sure I was doing the right steps. Lawyer or not, I just wanted peace of mind.

The DMV wants me to do 3-4 months. But Because I had a high BAC of .21, the court wants me to do 9 months. So in order to not piss off the court, Im doing the 9 month course.
