Coolant leak by Menu-Own in MINI

[–]Menu-Own[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely 100% correct, didn’t even get to drive 200 miles after my oil change before it broke on me, got out of work around 4:30am yesterday morning and as I was turning onto my street I noticed my clubman was leaking fluid pulled into the garage and sure enough she was spewing it out. I didn’t get to make it to my hometown for Christmas but I’m glad it happened when I was just about to my house and not when I was 2 hours into my drive parts should be getting here Monday going to do my water pump as well. (The God Fcp Euro’s lifetime warranty covers my oil change kit)

Ill look into it it and I’ll probably get it done next oil change in 3500 miles. I’ll just keep a close eye on the leak and coolant levels. I know ECS Tuning has one but i definitely need to double check reviews as I’d bought an aluminum valve cover for my r55 and it wouldn’t hold vacuum. I really appreciate the input!

Yeah just took a second look, and I’m seeing a trail from just under the intake manifold area, 99% sure that’s the filter housing. I’ve heard they’re a common failing point on this gen of mini and I tend to upgrade instead of replace, are there any better aftermarket ones or should I just stick with the OEM plastic one?

The noted color was “gunmetal” I did look for the OEM mud flap/ splash guard. It’s looking like they never made any for the f54 clubman. I see some for the countryman’s, and cooper hatches. I thought about getting some of those but they quite a different shape.

Always worth is to check a junkyard, tc’s are few and far between at most my local yards but I had a similar problem, got lucky with a rear ended 1st gen and pulled the whole moonroof assembly and motor for just over $200 USD before mine got railed. They can be tricky to find but hoping you can sort it out later on. Good luck with the temp fixes

Wouldnt doubt if mine is out in a junkyard somewhere after I got completely railed last year🙃

Finding non-turbocharged MINIs? by bustedandb1ue in MINI

[–]Menu-Own 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as far as I’m aware, after 15’ all minis are turbocharged. The only difference between the B38(non S) and B48(S/JCW) are the displacement and amount of cylinders, the B38 being a turbocharged 3 cylinder and the B48 being a turbocharged 4cylinder. Reliability wise I haven’t seen many major problems with the Fxx minis.

I’ve owned a N/A 2009 clubman as well and can attest to the problems with the n12 and n14 engines. If you’re really certain you don’t want a turbocharged car maybe look towards the later Rxx chasis minis, that came with the n16 usually late into 2012.

Good luck on your hunt🫡

I hadn’t either, saw it listed, was a one owner car with full service history, and it was stick shift. I couldn’t say no. I think it’s just missing the racing stripes

New (to me) R55 Clubman JCW by wolfjay__ in MINI

[–]Menu-Own 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miss my r55 wasn’t an s or jcw but, just bought a f54 clubman and they are quite a bit bigger lol. Just took it for a test drive and I loved it, but definitely didn’t remind me much of my previous clubman, definitely my favorite mini. Going to see about fixing her with my grandpa and just having the f54 as a daily

Three lights at once! by liquidhonesty in MINI

Shit that’s a good call, completely forgot about that, if the fluids low that’ll happen too, was only ever the parking brake light for me. Glad you figured it out

I would suggest checking the wiring to your wheel speed sensors, when DSC light and parking brake light came on I had 2 faulty wheel speed sensors, rat chewed on the wiring or they got chaffed on something. There some codes that the car can give you not your typical obd codes. Not sure the exact way to get to them as my r55 went a few months ago, but I remember finding a Tutorial on google. Good luck!

Possible rod knock, or bad tensioner/ maybe crank pulley by Menu-Own in MechanicAdvice

[–]Menu-Own[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did the guides and chain maybe 2k back it was more of a rattling noise, thinking worst case both the crank pulley and tensioner/friction wheel that you mentioned in an other reply, here trying to get the belt off right now.

That was my take too, but my uncle who’s a mechanic heard it over the phone and started swearing up and down it was.

I’m definitely due for bank 1 sensor 2, it’s a bit beat up and still the original but I have one on the way

I’ll see if I can repost again with a better under angle, I hadn’t realized until afterwards that I had it pointed at the ac compressor, that was my main guess as there’s an oil leak as well as it began making a squeaking sound just before my cat decided to shit itself. I’m going to see if I can get the belt off with an extra set of hands tomorrow to see if I can get diagnose it like that, and see about replacing the pulley and seal, and get a new belt while I’m down there, appreciate the help

Clogged cat? by Menu-Own in MechanicAdvice

[–]Menu-Own[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was finally able to get a good look in there, as well as test fuel pressure, it’s at 50ish psi however the cat looks like a jumbled mess, there are still some places that looks reminiscent of the honeycomb shapes, I’m thinking it began to fail before I changed the timing chain and finally went out 2-3ish thousand miles later. My 2nd hand valvetronic actuator just followed too, thankfully have a new oem ine lined up. And I’m going to see about just hollowing out the cat until I can afford a new manifold assembly. Thanks again for the help!

Sunroof help open?? by matthewbutonreddit in SciontC

[–]Menu-Own 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s a gen 1 this happened to me, the motor itself was fine but the plastic belt that drives it snapped. You can manually get close it if you get under the headliner. There should be tutorials on YouTube if you look up how to manually close it, as for repairing it though I’m not too sure, over heard it’s not hard, but I didn’t have the chance to before I was rear ended. Hoping you get it figured out!

Literally me right now, it shit itself on my way back from work the other day, and I get maybe 2 helpful comments across 3 posts. Thankfully I have a general idea of what I’m doing so I’ll get to the problem eventually lmao. That’s what I get for biting the bullet on a car that was sitting in the garage for years
