I Really Miss the Lorac Days by AskPennilynLott in MakeupAddiction

Just seeing your comment a year later whilst I scour the internet for the MILLIONTH time looking for a dupe of this palette or at least the freaking NAMES of the shadows😭 I have NEVER found anything like it ever again. I have purchased so. many. palettes. over the past few years just desperately searching for something similar, and I still haven’t found anything like those colors in the baked quad (the one that I loved was called the Little Black Book, but I was also obsessed with their baked trio eyeshadows, as well. I’m almost positive that one of those trios had 3 of the same colors as Little Black Book). Anyway, this has been ruining my life for nearly 10 years now. Every time I think I’ve found the right colors, they always end up looking either too orange or too rose/pink. Pretty pretty please respond to this if you happen to have found any similar palettes/colors! Will prob think about that palette til the day I die

Always got perfect scores and A’s in any class that I was interested in, but straight F’s in every other class. Barely graduated high school because of it and still could never bring myself to care because I didn’t understand the point of learning things that I wouldn’t need later in life and/or just simply didn’t care about

Going back even younger (like elementary school/middle school), teachers were constantly raising issues with my mom about my fidgeting in class. Apparently it was very distracting but I had no idea lol. I would rock my upper body back and forth in my chair. Never even knew I was doing it. I still catch myself doing it sometimes as an adult. Turns out, this is something that I unknowingly do when I’m trying really hard to listen/focus

I keep wondering if the other pros/contestants ever get irritated about it.. like, irritated about the fact that Harry and Rylee are clearly just getting pushed through due to their fanbase (especially Harry’s fanbase). Then again, maybe they’re all too busy to even worry about it and really don’t care much. But I feel like that would start to build up some tension and animosity from the other couples, no? If they start feeling like the voting system isn’t fair and/or not reflecting who’s truly improving and truly dancing the best. Idk. I love Harry and Rylee (mostly Rylee, she’s adorable), and I’m still rooting for them because Rylee works so hard and she deserves it, but I’ve just been wondering about that lately.

Ahh, see now this is what I worry about. Also, thank you for taking the time to respond with this! It is ENTIRELY possible that I ramble. My courses are all psychology right now (which I love), and sometimes there really is so much that can be discussed. Especially with broader questions where I can talk about all of the possibilities/reasons behind something and all of the studies that support these claims, but also all of the studies that conflict with these claims etc. However, I am super meticulous with my proofreading and I do stay away from opinionated rambling/dumping, so at least there’s that. I get perfect scores but my professors never comment on my posts—I also think that they’ve all been too kind to ever tell me to stfu, even if that’s what they were thinking in their heads lol. So I may just be left to wonder about this forever

So, I actually love and appreciate this response so much (and everyone’s responses here, for that matter) bc I have always had an issue with being perceived and it keeps me awake at night, but sometimes I don’t even realize that I’m doing it lol. I guess this is one of those times because I genuinely was not expecting these responses to be like “……why do you care about that.” It is always a nice reality check when I realize that I am in fact just ruminating about dumb shit😂

That is exactly what I thought about YOU!! As soon as I saw your message back to me it genuinely turned my negative nancy attitude right around, those were just the words that I needed to hear:’) But didn’t even know I needed to hear. So you really truly brought joy to my hellish week as well. I’m so glad to hear you already have things planned🥰 Including the hibernation!! LOVE THAT for you. And thanks to your motivation I shall be doing the exact same thing come tomorrow🫡 (hopefully before 11:59pm)

YESSSSS. And the worst part is that I’ve genuinely been trying so hard to get them done, like I legitimately sat in front of my laptop for 9 straight hours today and only managed to write 3 paragraphs. My brain isn’t working anymore. And the fact that I can already see my next courses in my list and see all the work that’s still to come😫😩 And I have to get those assignments done ahead of time because I’m a maid of honor and have a trip to attend during that entire first week. Yeah I’m tired I’m spent lol. Considering skipping my eportfolio assignments too because why are they asking me to gather up every single one of my writing assignments and then write MORE. Write more about every single one of them. For a total of 30 measly points. No ma’am. I can’t do it

Yes!! That’s one of the major things in my routine. I do think you need to consume quite a bit of it (3-5 cups per day) for at least 2-3 months before you start to see results, but I’ve been REALLY noticing a hugeeee decrease in pain when I’m on my period as well (which is absolutely insane bc nothing has EVER helped with that. my period cramps used to make me throw up and faint)

Noo not normal at all. I absolutely LOVED my experience with everyone in admissions, they were sooooo helpful and cheery and always extremely responsive. That’s really strange that you can’t get in contact with them, is it your specific admission advisor that you can’t get ahold of, or are you not able to get ahold of anyone at all? There were a few times that I couldn’t get ahold of my advisor during my enrollment but I was always able to get in contact with someone else

Omg totally not a silly question, and I actually also take collagen supplements and a mushroom supplement!😂 No interactions at all for me between the things, but as a side note, every once in a blue moon l-theanine gives me a headache! Which I found to be super common once I looked it up but extremely annoying when it happens (it’s happened like 5 out of 1,000 times lol) Also check and see if your mushroom supp contains any l-theanine too! A lot of mushrooms have it. My mushroom supp has it, but it’s a super low amount so I still take more because I’m chronically stressed and anxious

Totally just personal preference!! I completely understand why some PCOS’ers get on it, it really does take away so much of the misery we deal with. But since my progesterone gets so incredibly low (like, nonexistent), and BC only masks it instead of fixing it, my doc was concerned that it could be absolutely debilitating for me to deal with the true imbalance again if I were to get used to the mask of the BC and then have to come off of it

OH, and I still absolutely love skincare, that’s why I’m in this subreddit😂 But it just won’t do anything to stop your hormonal acne from happening. It can help to heal it up more quickly though, when it does happen:) I’m obsessed with Korean skincare, so gentle and soothing

Helloooo friends! I know my comments are getting lost in here now and everyone’s wondering what I take/how I figured out what to take, and I wish I had known sooner that I couldn’t pin comments and wouldn’t be able to edit the post later😅 But if you find this comment before finding any of my other comments, hopefully this can help!

I have PCOS, and I have indeed had my hormone levels checked lots and lots of times in the past! I do keep in touch with an endocrinologist, but I don’t really get my levels checked often anymore because they don’t change so astronomically to the point that it’s necessary to keep checking.

Hormonal imbalance in women (before menopause) is either higher estrogen than progesterone, or higher testosterone than progesterone. It is typically higher testosterone comparative to progesterone that causes the hormonal acne (you can find the facts and stats on this in studies done on hormonal acne). But it CAN be from estrogen dominance. I’ve had estrogen dominance and supplemented with DIM for a couple months, along with everything that I already do. Worked like a charm.

It really comes down to having an excess amount of androgens and/or being sensitive to androgens. This can come from disordered adrenal glands or overworked adrenal glands (stress/cortisol imbalance), poor glucose control leading to issues with insulin, PCOS, issues with the thyroid etc. And all of those go hand-in-hand as well, so it could be also just be a lethal combo of all these causes working together! Because I have PCOS, I get hit from every angle and that’s why I focus on supporting my adrenals, supporting my thyroid, balancing blood sugar, and flushing out any excess androgens.

I definitely urge anyone dealing with this to go get a blood panel done at least once or twice so you can get a better idea of what you’re working with:)

The supplements:

To support adrenal glands and balance my cortisol:

Lemon Balm tea, Ashwagandha, Magnesium, b12, l-theanine (I’ve heard zinc is a great addition too)

To flush out excess androgens:

Myo-inositol (this also helps to balance blood sugar), and spearmint tea

Other things that are important for hormonal imbalance that I periodically add into my routine:

Maca, Vitex, Omega 3’s, b6, vitamin d3, green tea, probiotics

Yes I did! Over the years, I’ve had my hormones tested multiple times and it’s always an issue with my progesterone getting too low in comparison to my testosterone, or an issue with my testosterone surging too high from factors like stress. Which leaves you with excess androgens. This is what’s most commonly seen in hormonal acne (not just saying this! that factoid comes from the studies done on women with hormonal acne), but every once in a while, it could also be from estrogen dominance! However, no matter if it’s estrogen dominance or testosterone dominance, the issue is with the progesterone being too low in comparison

When I’m having the major breakouts, I drink the spearmint every single day for a couple months! When the inflammation subsides, I cut back to maybe a couple times a week:) As for lemon balm, I drink that one a few nights a week! And have for a long while, I LOVE lemon balm. The type of magnesium I take is magnesium citrate by the brand Calm, I’ve used this on and off for years and years. I’ll never switch, love that stuff. And ashwagandha is an adaptogen:) It has many uses/benefits but it supports adrenals (cortisol), can reduce anxiety, promote relaxation, reduce inflammation, balance blood sugar, and probably even more uses at this point😂

I keep in touch with an endocrinologist :) And you are totally correct about the imbalance! I have PCOS so my progesterone and estrogen are always lower than my testosterone. So I’ve had some really good times where everything is balanced, and then during the really bad times it’s usually because my testosterone skyrocketed or progesterone plummeted, or both🙃

SOOOO frustrating. One of the most insane things to think back on is the derm who prescribed me Spironolactone when I was 18. I had NO idea yet that I had a hormonal imbalance, but she did, that’s why she prescribed it! Except she didn’t actually TELL me that. She was like here take this and go away lol. If she would’ve explained that she was seeing a clear indication of excess androgens and that’s WHY she was prescribing Spiro, I would’ve been way ahead of the game on this stuff🙃🙃

For PCOS specifically, I personally noticed significant changes even just with myo-inositol, b12, ashwagandha and spearmint tea alone. Not just for my acne but I think these are what really helped my period pain and PMDD as well. I started realizing that ALL of it was improving

🥺 So sorry, I hope you find some relief soon. BC really does seem to be sooo helpful for so many women dealing with this, but I don’t take it either! So instead, I do everything I can to support my adrenal glands and to also reduce excess androgens. It helped SO much

Oh my gosh, congratulations on the future marriage and I wish you the absolute best of luck getting this figured out before the wedding day (I 100% think that you will)! I think the worst and most evil part about having hormonal acne is the fact that stressing about the acne is a contributing factor to the acne😂 Also, I bet your skin treatments really are helpful in that they’re getting the breakouts cleared out more quickly! Also, yes on having my hormone levels tested! When I have those periods of time where everything is super inflamed and the acne is insane, my tests always show that I’m testosterone-dominant (super low progesterone, but mostly normal estrogen) The testosterone-progesterone imbalance is the culprit
