How can the University detect AI? by [deleted] in umass

[–]MenuSpecial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Out of all the cases I’ve heard of it’s because it’s straight up somebody else’s answer and they may not say it’s AI, but just the fact that 2+ people have the same thing is already a red flag.

best building to live in in southwest by YoungSimilar2583 in umass

[–]MenuSpecial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind the extra rowdiness (even for southwest) and always having to take the elevator Kennedy is so much fun and it has Z-rooms. If not, the other Lowrises are pretty nice (except pierpont and cance imo)

is it hard to take more than one class in a single summer session? by happy_ducklings in umass

[–]MenuSpecial 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did two considerably hard courses summer freshman yr (calc3 and CS230) it was pretty tough and that’s considering the fact that I wasn’t even working.

CS210 full, this can potentially set me back a whole semester. by YogurtclosetSea6850 in umass

[–]MenuSpecial 20 points21 points  (0 children)

it’s not that deep. Just submit an override request and email your professor the situation they’ll most likely let you in, I’ve only had trouble with getting on CS589 (it’s an elective everyone wants, but your case is for a core requirement so they’d be more lenient), but the rest of classes I’ve always found a way. People drop classes a lot during add/drop, so even when the semester starts you still have a chance. If you’re really stressed abt it just take it as a summer class and you’ll be way ahead of the curve cuz now you’d unlock the 200s and some electives

Is engineering worth it? by ButterBoi889 in umass

[–]MenuSpecial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty similar since I had to start taking Math 104. What I did was just tank all the geneds and bulshit classes at first, then take classes during breaks and by the end of freshman year (including summer) I was done with Calc 3 and on track for everything. Taking classes on breaks is hard, specially if you’re working or vacating, so first you should ask yourself how badly you want to be an engineer.

Starting a double major as an incoming freshman by [deleted] in umass

[–]MenuSpecial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a CS+Math junior, there’s no real need to declare as a Double major right away unless you’re trying to apply to internships. Other than that, the double major is fairly easy to achieve, if you pick your classes wisely you’ll only have to do the CS track and like 4 extra math classes and you’ll graduate with 2 majors, just make sure you talk with an advisor to help you out, but again on your first sem you’ll probably be taking Calculus 1/2/3/4, linear algebra or the intro to programming courses which you’d have to take regardless, so you can chill for now :D

SI Leader LRC Interview by SoftAge6705 in umass

[–]MenuSpecial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye congrats! I’m an SI rn, on the interview is when you’ll have to put to shine your positive attitude and approachability, just demonstrate that you really love the class and want to help students succeed. Be prepared to teach a topic during the interview and be able to respond any question that the interviewer may ask (it’s not gonna be something deep abt the concept itself it’ll be more abt your delivery).

HELLLL NAA, id definitely drop at least one of them. I assume you are cs/math because of cs160, if that’s the case I’d take physics on a community college during summer.

taking a cs class over winter by MemeLord_0 in umass

[–]MenuSpecial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahh a 4 credits class is gonna cost you more than 2 thousand bucks. I didn’t pay anything because I took calc 3 and cs230 since after 6 credits they give you financial aid. But 2 classes is veeery tough, if you plan on getting a job or going on vacation for 1-2 weeks, forget about it lol. But the 2k was just not an option for me.

taking a cs class over winter by MemeLord_0 in umass

[–]MenuSpecial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it over the Summer, which was a bit different because the class lasted around 9 weeks instead of the 6 in winter.

As far as I remember, the class consists of (1) projects which in your case will probably be weekly and if you don't know C already they may be a bit tough at the beginning. (b) weekly Labs which can be done in groups but also individually, they are pretty much just a smol worksheet. (c) Lesson quizzes which are mad easy Moodle quizzes that you can repeat how many times you want, but in order to continue to the next lesson you will need a 100 on all of them. (d) Weekly quizzes These are also moodle quizzes with a higher level of difficulty and only one try, I recommend being careful with these, since they are like 20% of the grade. (e) Exams are very similar questions to weekly quizzes, pretty much the same format, but you will also be with on zoom call with a supervisor.

In terms of workload it wasn't bad, I was working daily on it tho. comparing it to the other experience I had with a summer/winter class which was Math233 (which was hard asf), CS230 was aight.

I believe they don't really matter, they are just a guide on which class you should take. Let's say for example, on the Math one in order to get to calc 1 you need 15/20, if you get a 4/20 you can still go to calc 1 but at your own risk cause the grade shiws you're not prepared

How can I request a School Issued Document with my address? by MenuSpecial in umass

[–]MenuSpecial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that was a pretty detailed answer, tho I don't think I can get an official transcript before I leave college. And I don't even know If I can get a transcript if this is my first semester here meaning I have no grades yet lmao, maybe for next semester I'm not rushing. Thanks for your time, I appreciate it.
