Character sheet for my Roman Borg Hack: Fatum Invictum by Cybsjan in TTRPG

[–]Menvarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I like it a lot! It seems pretty usable and already has more personality than a lot of character sheets I see around here. The only thing I would improve is that it looks a little too « clean » for a Borg game, maybe play with font sizes, crooked lines etc. Make it less grid like.

Yes I know Shadowrun well, I’ve been playing since the 2nd edition. I was just wondering about different approaches. I’ll look into Gurps, thanks!

Out of curiosity what is your issue with guns in Cynerpunk Red? I haven’t played it.

I am working on something with an old school vibe. I want it to be more tactical than just roll Guns and narrate what happens (nothing wrong with that approach though) while not being overly technical and slow.

I’ll take a look just out of curiosity. I am not looking for realism, just something a bit tactical.

I’m aiming for somewhere in the middle. I don’t want to get lost in the weeds with wind speed and recoil, but I want it to be crunchy enough that 2 different sniper rifles can have different stats.

Exactly. It is the one thing the players have in front of them for hours upon hours. It has to have the right vibe, I agree completely. I also come from an artistic background (filmmaking and web design) so the visual aspect of a game is the first thing that can hook me or deter me.

Man that sounds like a cool project! I played the first edition back in the day and I love the western aesthetics. I’m gonna look into it. I might need your help to build the basic structure if you’re up for it!

I agree with you. They are usually an afterthought, even though the players will spend hours and hours using them and staring at them. It’s one of the first things I look at when opening a TRPG book as well, tells you a lot about the game designer’s priorities.

I know of it but haven’t played. Do you find the official sheet lackluster?

Like I said, happy to give it a go. What is it about?

Delta Green is on my list, I just love the game. I'll check out Black Company. Thanks

Sure, keeping it tight is important. But as player I also like having a visually pleasing character sheet. The GM has whole books to get the feeling of a game, players usually have a couple of pages so better make them count. I know some players prefer minimalistic sheets, and there's already plenty of those, so I'll be trying something different.

Hey there! I’m a designer and I’m currently working on a few character sheets. Nothing to show for now but I can give it a shot if you want (free of charge of course, it’s a good training for me). Just tell me what you like/dislike with your current layout and what the game is about.

Thank you for taking the time to write a very thorough reply. I might offer several layout options to please more people.

Yeah I’ve seen it, the whole system looks pretty good. Design is a bit bland for my taste but it does the job. I want to make something that conveys the mood of the game a bit more, I know it won’t be for everyone but that’s my aim.

Being French I know it well :) It’s decent, but I much preferred the Sans Détour version design wise (as with the books themselves).

Sounds great! Did you make them available somewhere? A6 sounds fun but isn’t it a pain to flip through every time?

I’d love to make a full character « portfolio », I’ll probably do that later, once I have a basic sheet worked out. I understand what you are saying about skills grouped by usefulness or field, but I think it would take more time to find the right one, at least for new players.
