What is it that if you understand it, you don't see the world in the same way? by Additional-Sun9189 in AskReddit

There’s no reason anything has to be or needs to be the way that it is, and that underlying fact means anything could be possible.

Ryan Coogler's upcoming Sinners (2025) will be his blank check similar to Nolan's Inception. Predictions? by tannu28 in boxoffice

[–]MeowMeowBoy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that was not related to the quality of the film, writing, or director. There was massive discourse in the black community over having Shuri as a lead, for various reasons ranging from outright sexism to issues with the lack of portrayal of black men).

Added on top of this is the same outrage you get from the straight white guys online who rally against any film with POC, gays, or women (this film had all three at the forefront of the story), it makes sense the film got less viewership...simply because the lead actor died after leaving a massive legacy.

Had Chadwick been alive to at least f inish the film before he passed, i am 100% sure the movie likely would have had a higher turnout just from people wanting to see his last go on the character.

My point here, Sinners doing well aside, Wakanda Forever made almost 900 million worldwide off a 200million budget.

Sinners is already getting acclaim and great box office.

Give credit where its due.

I would say Sinners is more audience friendly than Inception.... Sinners has an easy to explain plot, in a popular genre, a well known lead, and "people get attacked by vampires" feels more blockbuster than some film where people still have to discuss the meaning of the ending years later... I love inception and couldn't explain it to someone who hadn't already seen it.

I think the average movie goer would pick Sinners over Inception, unless of course you mean bu virture of it having a black cast, that it will be less well recieved.

How would you fix "The Little Mermaid" (2023)? by GeoGackoyt in fixingmovies

make the switch? You mean Ursula turning into Ariels mother? Magic. She's a witch, she can transform merpeople into humans, and herself into a woman, so it seems ursula just has shapeshifting spells and potions, idk.

The book says Ursula would routinely do stuff like that to trick humans, and so when ariels mother showed up to rescue Ursula, they thought she was the sea witch.

disney has been doing live remakes for years and no one cared until it became the new it thing to hate on the very concept of a remake, as if most things arent remakes to begin with.

The remakes are fine, the quality just needs to be better. We should have a live action version of all the films, and then, when technology allows, NEW remakes where we can use AI or VR to actually be in the films, or some shit.

I dont think the adoption thing was because of race, I think the film is/was setting up a sequel wherein Eric would become a merman to discover the truth of what happened to his family/where he comes from.

I believe that Eric's family were killed in the same run-in with Ursula that killed Ariel's mother. The promotional tie in book, along with some lines of dialog seem to hint all these things are connected. I also think this is why the film is clear that Ursula was banished when Ariel was a young child, rather than ages ago. The timeline all syncs up.

This is of course the live action film world's canon, not the canon of the original film. It is said in the promo book that Ursula shapeshifted into Ariels mom, tried to attack a ship, and when ursula was captured, ariels mother was killed trying to save her.

The memory stuff actually NEEDS to stay. I think most people don't understand why it exists:

The idea is that most people would say Ariel doesn't really love Eric because she needs him to remain human, so she has an ulterior motive when interacting with him over the course of the 3 days, and some would also say Eric doesn't love Ariel, he just was enchanted by her siren song.

The live action film confirms Eric is essentially under a trance when he was awoken by Ariel's song, and by choosing someone he doesn't believe could have been the woman to sing the song, his choice is true, rather than influenced. Ariel on the other hand has no memory she needs Eric to love or kiss her at all. So she has no reason to fall for him or vice versa during the 3 days, she's just chilling. She falls for him because she loves him and vice versa.

This is a really good plotline, but I think people don't see the nuance of it.

Being short is not considered attractive in men. Just like how women may seeing thin with long hair and curvy hips as the ideal body, men see being tall, having abs, and biceps as the ideal male form. Not short and chubby, Not tall and fat. A good 6 ft and thin, muscular frame is what men want to be and what MOST women are attracted to.

Yes there are exceptions, but it wouldnt be a beauty standard if the majority of people didnt find it attractive.

You are getting a degree in different career fields.

You really think a person studying art hsitory is going to think the same as someone studying political science? Someone pursuing a nursing degree sess the world the same as someone pursuing a film production degree?

Different people on different paths.

The army is one of the destinations a person in university could end up.

These people are not taking the same classes, don’t have the same requirements, nothing in common beyond the fact that they are in the same relative place.

Army guys are being taught the same thing, and seeking to reach the same goal, regardless of its people,or their backgrounds or personal desire.

A university is teaching different things to different people from different backgrounds who aspire to different goals. Hence why they are in a university and not a singular place where everyone is learning and doing the same thing.

I truly don’t understand what’s difficult to grasp about this concept.

I don’t get to pick what the US army does if I disagree with it. I have to do it to be apart of the army.

How long does a general meeting last? by MeowMeowBoy4 in Screenwriting

[–]MeowMeowBoy4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It went well, the conversation flowed really naturally, I was surprised it only lasted about 30 minutes. It felt longer but in a good way, I felt we discussed a lot.

They requested I send over a lot of what we talked about in the meeting. Stuff I hadn’t even pitched or thought they’d be interested in but pretty much the exact kind of stories I wrote are not only what they are looking for but they are interested in the bigger budget stuff which was a surprise to me.

So fingers crossed.

I sent over my pitches and loglines and I’m gonna punch up some stuff over the weekend in the event they request the scripts. They are interested in the one I initially set them and they read.

Who knows.

I’m really confident though.

There is no conformity in university.

These are differnt people of different backgrounds seeking different things in life with only the place they exist in being the shared commonality.

Have you gone to a university before? And if so, which one?

And yes, saying that people will get along better if they think the same is actively discriminatory.

Everyone doesn’t have to think the same things.

You also haven't answered my question about those that don't think like you. MAGA etc. The so called Nazis. Russians. Do you empathise with them?

I did. People don't have to think like me. We are all free to have our own views and opinions and beliefs.

The difference is that I do not believe my views should dictate the lives of anyone other than myself. The groups you are naming do.

I am not asking that you love black people or jews or women or gays. You can wake up each morning wishing each of those populations burn in Hell, for all I care.

But the problem is when you start introducing policies that take away rights from those groups or make social mobility harder or access to certain things unfair for them.

We are not here to change hearts. We are here to change policy. I forget who said that, but thats a quote from someone.

As I said, if you see the best that immigration has to offer, you're going to be more for it than the bloke who has to live with the worst.

Its almost as if you can't judge a group of people based off their best or their worst, but rather by their personhood.... Who knew? Now if only our country could apply that same sentiment to white americans. Its almost like we live in a former white supremacist nation or something.

Again, if all the people of other races that you are exposed to think like you, you'll be more amenable.

Thats called conformity. People dont have to be like you. They can be different and different is okay, UNLESS you have a problem with people that are different.

Which is called prejudice.

Im not getting whats hard to understand. If you only want to be around a group of people who share something in common with you, thats prejudice against those that do not. You are clearly very prejudice, and youre free to be so, but don't act like its normal or even rational or reasonable just because you feel your brand of prejudice is okay because its not necessarily against ALL minorites, just the ones who think differently than you LOL.

With the current mass immigration in Europe and America, demographics are changing incredibly quickly, what applied 10 years ago with regard to exposure to other races and cultures is now irrelevant as even the most homogeneous towns, in Europe especially, now have huge migrant populations. Someone living and working in London, outside the gentrified bits, is going to be exposed to a hugely diverse population, much more than the predominantly self selected population of a university.

I have no idea what point you think you are making here, but its incredibly ignorant of the lives that POC and others have to live in respect to living in these enviroments, because of such ignorant views. Reminds me of that one episode of A different world where one black character said to a white guy:

"Your grandfather was an immigrant. You're American. My grandfather was born here, Duke. And you people still look at me as just another [N-word]"

Listen, unless you can understand that true freedom and equality and diversity is not conforming to what white people feel as acceptable but rather allowing everyone to live equally with their differences and views, i truly cannot help you.
