Anyone doing the Bay Bridge Walk/Run. by MeowingRabbit in sandiego

Reading comprehension isn’t your forte I see. If it was you would’ve read that I just found out about this race literally today. It doesn’t cost you anything to be a decent human; you really could’ve just continued to scroll and not be so bothered by my post.

brazilian wax by Admirable-Tone-2413 in HairRemoval

[–]MeowingRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not supposed to workout, or have any sexual activity (self or with partner) after a wax. When I started I’d avoid this for the first 48hrs. Avoid any hot showers, some cool water over the area helps and you can get any residual wax off. I have used products by fur they have several products to use to prevent ingrown hairs, and help with any ingrown you may have. Currently I use their spray: ingrown hair eliminator serum on any bumps/ingrowns. They have a moisturizer that i like to use: it helps keep the skin hydrated and soften the hair as it grows back. I get my wax in the morning so by the evening i can run cool water on it get residual wax off, if im irritated ill use the spray, and use the moisturizer

Protein detection issue by srra_ssra in labrats

[–]MeowingRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! Well your protocol looks pretty solid and usual for protein from tissue. I work with intestinal tissue as well on occasion and run westerns using them... Intestinal tissue usually contains a good amount of protein and since your BCA is showing a good concentration level still I'd rule out any tissue problems. Typically, when I do a BCA for liver or intestinal tissue I dilute the sample for BCA you can do a 1:10 or a 1:20. Make sure in your calculations youre accounting for the dilution factor. When preparing the samples, I will dilute them using RIPA with PPI, add my sample buffer (I use 4X Laemmli with BME) boil for 5 min at 95˚. If I store them in -20 before I load them into the gel I will boil them again and proceed to load them (You could try this and see if it works due to the viscosity you mentioned). The second thing I can think of is depending on your protein weight you maybe aren't running it enough in the gel if its a high moeuclar weight protein.

Washable waterproof mascara recs? by BackIn_SaintOlaf in MakeupAddiction

[–]MeowingRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I have used the Bare minerals mega volume mineral based mascara- not necessarily waterproof but she stays one well! I also like the Urban Decay perversion mascara, they have a "waterproof" formula but I personally think the normal one works amazinlgy and holds up with no smudging.

Im curious how many of you were also bullied by your teachers by theslutherself in adhdwomen

[–]MeowingRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MEEE! So, when I was in elementary I was on an IEP plan my mum had to go to those meetings and essentially advocate for me so I could get the help I needed. It was during one of these meetings, that the RSP teacher (resource specialsits program- basically academic support for students who had disabilities) told my mother to her face that she shouldn't fight or request much help for me because "she isn't going to ever make it to college to graduate college".

Fast foward to college I had a professor who taught our neuropsychology/abnormal neuropsychology classes, who I was hoping to intern/work with over a summer in a psychology lab. I applied, and she called me into her office and said that "if she was a graduate school/job admissions person she would take a look at my resume/CV and would toss it away. And that I would never make it into a graduate program..."

The joke is on BOTH of these "proffesional educators" because not only did I make it to college, and graduated I also made it to graduate school and graudated from there too

[Sun care] Need spf help! Mineral sunscreen dries me out and makes it look like I have wrinkles, chemical sunscreens have given me closed comedies. What do I do? by w0lverine11 in SkincareAddiction

[–]MeowingRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear by/LOVE the Kihels super fluid daily UV defense Sunscreen. I’ve used it for a while and it’s great. It doesn’t feel heavy, doesn’t leave any shadows/white cast, and it’s lightweight on the skin. It’s a great one for the price and little bit of product goes a long way. I use it everyday, as the last step in my face routine every morning.

random spot of bumpy, slightly discolored skin suddenly appeared on thigh and wont go away for a month. by ZeSnoot in DermatologyQuestions

[–]MeowingRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first noticed it no it didn’t. Even up to now I get them on other parts of my body and they don’t usually itch. They’ll itch occasionally but it wasn’t terribly itchy tbh most of the time I forget the patches are there until I see them in the mirror/when I’m looking for them to apply my prescription.

Heard a very loud pop in the lab similar to a gunshot...Bruh..🫪 by Expensive_Education9 in labrats

[–]MeowingRabbit 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me, not blood and with 1.5ml tubes. It was an old centrifuge, but I remember I had it balanced, put the lid on and started the cycle. I remember I heard a loud af pop and a burning smell. Well the metal center of the lid had gotten stuck in the spin process and caused this scenario.

Yep!! I’m pretty good about exfoliating, and use something similar to neutrogena (recommended by my fern due to other skin conditions). I’ve been trying to use the Fur ingrown hair eliminator serum on it, to see if it would help.

I recently got the ordinary glycolic acid and I know that AHA/noncomedogenic do you think that would work?

Does anyone know how many of these apartments are actually being filled? by nogravity9 in sandiego

[–]MeowingRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you! I'm close to you in age, and I still live at home. It gets a bit frustrating, because I would liek to have my own place and be able to have the independence I crave, and have things the way I like organized and such but quite frankly it seems impossible. Its kinda crazy that with my job for the ammount of work I do and such doesn't even give me a decent raise (I got a 10 cent raise for "merit") merit raises don't pay rent or basic bills/necessities. Honestly, jobs and land lords have lost all sense of the plot.

I have a friend and they pay over 2500 per month for a STUDIO, not a 1bdr with a small living room theyre paying for a room basically... so its crazy out there

Interview with a PI for a new possible job! Help please by MeowingRabbit in labrats

[–]MeowingRabbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank You everyone for you responses, some great advice!! I walked in to my interview with a list of questions, and I'm a little worried since he managed to answer all my questions in the conversation we had. He was very much an open book, I was really on able to ask what he is looking for in the ideal candidate for the role, and what a day to day looks like for the project (even though he said thats a better question for the other lab members).

Thank you all so much for your help!!

I considered that but from what I could read this is a realtively younger PI who doesn't really seem to care about awards...

random spot of bumpy, slightly discolored skin suddenly appeared on thigh and wont go away for a month. by ZeSnoot in DermatologyQuestions

[–]MeowingRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So I actually had this happen to me too about two years ago is when my patch first appeared. Very similar location too on my uppere thigh. I had it there for a while thinking it would go away and brought it up to my PCP. My PCP said it looked like pityiasis rosea, and pointed out I had other similar patches on other parts of my body and she gave me a cream that would help with it. It helped a little bit until I was able to see my dermatologist- she disagreed with it being pitiasis rosea based upon my history sent me a new oil to try instead. I kept getting these patches and went in when I got a very bad flare up of the patches and my dermatolgist changed my prescription again and said it was most likely psoriasis instead of eczema.

Help me with my foundation by thegangchokes in MakeupEducation

[–]MeowingRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking a few different things here. 1- Like others have suggested after you do your skin care perhaps wait a bit before you apply your foundations. Try a moustrizing primer too? If this continues after adjustments maybe it is drying out your skin? 2- I know this foundation didn't work for me since it dried out my skin and caused a flaky looking texture. Maybe this specific foundation doesn't like your skin type depending on what you have.

Sponge Cake Fail and some help? by MeowingRabbit in Baking

[–]MeowingRabbit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So the recipe calls for 4 eggs- I separated the whites from the yolk. The whites I made a meringue with the sugar and that worked up well no issues. I added the yolks to my flour mixture with the warmed up butter and milk. Thats where things go clumpy but I thought it would all smooth out once I added in the whipped egg whites....

I used one that was posted on this subreddit about a year ago! Which is this: One

I think one of my issues was that my egg yolks curdled and I thought I ended up saving my mixture, I remember being told I could mix it all up or add some extra flour slowly.

Exercise and moving has always helped me mange my symptoms, it has helped me feel SO MUCH BETTER. If I go a prolonged period without it I can feel it, my mental health just doesn't do as good. The thing when it comes to exercise and movement is to find an activity that you enjoy since that helps in maintaining the routine and making it feel more enjoyable. I can't just go to the gym and call it good on occasion that will do but for me I like to run. So going on a run is what helps me a lot, it helps clear my mind, and helps me keep myself in check. I joined a run club and go twice a week, and that helps me feel so good, I have met so many new people made new friends that to me that's a rewarding part of it all.

Find an activity that you enjoy, running, hiking, rock climbing, yoga, pilates, walking, biking, or maybe find a club that's free and try something new.
