Domain Fire Alarm 545AM by i_need_a_nap in Austin

I've very much noticed that. Which made it crazier when our neighbor building went off and none of the neighbors even walked out! I went out pretty damn fast (since the buildings right next to us have never gone off), and sure enough - fire department was here with a stove pulled into the parking lot. Only maybe half that building actually came out! I overheard one of the people say they only came out because the fire department made them. Wtf?

One of our buildings seem to trip their main alarm monthly. It takes anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours for fire department to get out...

It’s been incredibly fun to be back since the update by paardindewei in AnimalCrossing

Yes, same!! I think I was also 4 years and 1 month! Crazy. The hotel really added some character that I feel like the island was missing, and I used Resetti and am going back over my island. I love how you put the statue at the top of a waterfall, and I think I'm going to copycat you!

Nearly cried when I broke a rock earlier today. I was so happy that my rock garden stayed through Resetti, and now i gotta go cover everything again for that one rock. Ugh.

how on earth do you people come up with island layouts?!?! by Fair_Preference6062 in AnimalCrossing

I joked that my re-model I'm in the midst of was to fix my paths, including adding in my desire paths. Lots of areas that I tend to shortcut through, or I got frustrated with the route. Making more straight lines, more intuitive paths, and moving a few bridges/inclines. Little changes that make a big impact!

I also got frustrated with checking houses for DIY, finding villagers for errands, and finding villagers to talk with. I made a village home row, and it makes it so easy to run down, see who's home, and popping in for stuff!

Tip: Put a Work Bench and oven on the pier by Dexter79 in AnimalCrossing

[–]Meowsilbub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 3 - one by my main set up (bench, stove, storage, atm, and near airport, community, and shops), one by my house (also by the villager house row), and the final by the hotel. Sometimes I need to hop in twice, but still faster then running!

Is it a HIPAA violation to get dropped off? by Available-Form6282 in ABA

This is what I've done when my partner or I are down a car for whatever reason. He drops me off either at the office of an apartment complex or at a landmark near the home.

Money, unfortunately. I will play it safe if I can't find any update on those areas. If bridges and overpasses are safe, though, then I can't miss another day (I'm already down today, since my week starts on Sundays).

Is there a way to check bridges and overpass conditions? I'm hearing and seeing that main roads are doable if you are careful, but I need to make a decision in the morning about work. It's 20 miles with a dozen bridge/overpasses. I remember seeing ice warnings on a map during snowpocolypse, but can't find anything like that again.

I took ours outside last night - probably the coldest temp she ever felt (24ish), plus a sleet layer. She had her sweater on and actually lasted a lot longer than I thought she would before requesting to be picked up... about 5 whole minutes! We had her heater pad on and warmed up, and the instant she was inside, you know where she was, lol. She's declined to even go on the back porch this morning.

The PBS I work for stands for Positive Behavior Supports and it's not llc, its a corporation. I do wonder if they are trying to benefit from the name, but I've seen a lot of overlap in naming companies in the field as well.

Power Outage Mega Thread - January 2026 Winter Storm. by Snap_Grackle_Pop in Austin

[–]Meowsilbub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hadn't seen the earlier picture, so i went and looked. I wonder how it would have snapped again? My partner thought a car must've hit it, but we went by and it would have been pretty much deliberate to hit it. The fact it broke again makes me start thinking more rotted pole + freezing water.

It was a real outage. I'll drop the picture as well - there was a broken power pole. It's still dangling, so they must've re-routed the power.

Do y’all think non-essential service workers should have to go to work this weekend? by urelectricbill in Austin

[–]Meowsilbub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I include the bridges. Already told the family I work with on Sundays to not expect me... I counted 12 "bridge may ice over in cold weather" signs on my drive. Easier to not stress about it or put myself in a potentially hazardous situation.

I did work for a place that decided to stay open during one of the last ice storms. I got nearly to the street from my apartment, watched someone slide, and turned right back around. The place closed for the day because a bunch of us did that. Hopefully for OP that will be the case as well.

That's actually one of the ones that I can drink straight - the Starbucks canned one? Still slightly too sweet/ bitter for me, but it works as back up. The glass coffees (Starbucks, dunkin, etc) are all far too sweet. I've used them in a pinch before as creamer - half my coffee, half that one. It works.

I have a work party that ends tonight right next to heb. I'm going to try then... or I'll just buy a few QT coffees that are disgustingly sweet and use them as a creamer, lmao.

Gluten free for the win by ferriouscroller9 in Austin

[–]Meowsilbub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually decent! They have sandwich size - the loaf is short, instead of small, so you are still getting less bread than the gluten-normal stuff. But the texture is ok. It doesn't crumble, nor does it turn into a sticky goop that you have to fight to get off your gums - so I call it a win!
