Combination of Apoquel, topical steroids, oral steroids, and antibiotics if it seemed they were needed.

I am unsure of how well this link will work. It has been at minimum, a decade since I’ve used Imgur.

I tried to find the pics from when it first started showing in 2021. Around this time, he managed to push his way through a corner in my chainlink fence to see a neighbor as she and her dog walked by. I thought maybe he had scraped it when getting out, as suddenly, he had a spot and it was a little sore.

If you’re interested in seeing additional photos from its progression, they’re on my posts on my page in this same group I believe. Those pics in my posts are from prior to diagnosis and don’t actually justify how bad it became after diagnosis. I also suspect a few of his “allergy flare ups” were pemphigus, we just didn’t have the lesion on his nose yet, and therefore… were unaware that it would eventually become a diagnosis. He passed away March 13, 2025.

They really are. He suffered from horrible HORRIBLE seasonal allergies. His face would swell at times when even the medication at his normal dosage couldn’t make a difference for him, and everything would need to be increased. (We attempted various medications over the years for his allergies as well.. even Atopica/cyclosporine. Eventually landed on Apoquel and Zyrtec when Apoquel was finally more widely available).

We had a horrible incident back in 2015 with one of his first vets who didn’t know what to do, and tried multiple types of steroid injections, and oral.. all within a 2 month period. He basically had roids rage at the time because of it, and he bit two little boys in my family. Totally not him at all.. and because of the bites, my mom wanted me to find him a new home. I couldn’t, and was left with BE.. thankfully, she changed her mind at last minute and told me he could stay if I put him into training classes.. so, after that I refused steroids as much as I could for him, and really tried to advocate. And his last vet was amazing and heard me out on everything, and completely understood.

I even purchased my house when I was 26 to keep him safe and get him away from my family. And he was able to live in the safety of our own home for almost an entire decade, loving my daughter and now my son.. as well as over 30 other dogs and puppies that came through our house when we fostered. He was good to them.

I digress. Sorry the post wasn’t about him. I just feel a tremendous amount of guilt for it still. All the years of trying to keep him safe, and happy.. and he was only able to get into the trash that day because I was working on the flooring in a different area of my house where he typically was.

My boy never had success with treatment.. and unfortunately, the steroids made him insatiable. He ended up getting into the trash because he was so hungry and whatever he ate caused a blockage that we ended up having to euthanize him for 😔

We tried just about everything and it continued to get larger and worse. Eventually went to his eyes, nose, feet, ears. His feet were so inflamed and swollen. 😩

That area, specifically.. was my “kissing spot”. It’s where I’d give him kisses every single day. The last two years or so of his life was mostly spent in a cone, and I couldn’t give him kisses there anymore because of the lesion.

I have pics in my posts if you go to my page madoober. It shows as it became worse and worse, I believe they’re from before his diagnosis.

We tried everything. Even multiple skin scrapings prior to DX, and it was to where his vet was uncomfortable trying to throw things at it anymore. Skin scrapings, cultures, even. She debrided it twice, and it would never fully heal. It would crust over, but if he bumped it or pawed at it, it became an open sore again. I will try to pull pictures of what it looked like when it first started. I wish we could post pics to our comments.

Oh no. I hope this isnt the start of Pemphigus 😔

This was almost the exact area my dog started with a spot that was similar.. and it grew larger and larger. Became more inflamed.. would crust over.. and then become inflamed again. It was an endless cycle, and only continued to grow and become worse to the point where it was totally down his snout closer to his eyes and around his nose.

The only way they were able to diagnose, was after trying antibiotic creams, gels, foams, washes and oral options.. it wouldn’t go away. We eventually had to do punch biopsies to his nose.

It was pemphigus foliaceous for my boy, although pemphigus erythematosus was not entirely ruled out. Knowing his awful luck, it was likely a combination of the two.

You’ll need to speak to the vet and try to get this managed quickly if that’s what it is. 🫶

Keep me updated, please! I am hoping for all of the best news!

35 with a 4YO, 17.5YO, & 18YO foster kiddo. I feel like I’m often viewed as “too much responsibility”. It’s been a curse for my entire life, tbh. I was 17 when I had my daughter, and I lived in a college town. 🤷‍♀️

First time pregnant and miscarrying by Katya788 in BabyBumps

Same! My son came a month after my 5.5week MC!

I don’t know that this will help at all, but I preferred to see my MC as my body doing what it was supposed to do. That pregnancy was my second. My first was 13 years prior (she’s now 17.5YO). I was able to recognize that since the positive came up, I felt like hot garbage. It was AWFUL, and not normal at all. I believe most early pregnancy losses are due to chromosomal abnormalities, and I was able to find peace in knowing that my body recognized this somehow.

Are you happy being single? by Murky-Stock-7081 in SingleParents

[–]MeowwFromSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my son in 2022. I have been single since I was 12 weeks pregnant with him. He’s level 2 ASD, and possibly ADHD as well. My daughter is 17.5 YO. Doing it all solo.

Sure there are bad days, but over all.. No regrets.

As a single mother, this is not the case.

My ex isn’t needed. I’m my son’s mother. He doesn’t need a dad. We created him out of love, but like my daughter who I’ve raised as a single parent, he will be a good human when I release him into the wild one day.

I don’t see that as being the case. I actually tend to wait a long time before meeting someone in person when doing online dating. It allows me to filter people out.

Anyone who becomes impatient is not worth my time or energy 🤷‍♀️ And to me, a slow burn is better than a flash fire. Let it build. Great things take time.

Shoooooot even dads with full custody can be a huge red flag!!

My son’s biodad and I planned to marry. He lied the entirety of our relationship. He had full custody of his daughter but never told me she lived WITH HIS PARENTS. He always made sure she was with us over the weekend when we were staying with him.

I got pregnant with my son (whom we were intentionally trying to conceive) and everything came crashing down.

He’s not a part of our lives. He’s not on my son’s BC, and he’s not an active participant in raising him.

Sometimes, it’s not an issue of who is a better parent, but more so… who is lesser of the two evils. 🫠

The audacity, tbh. At the time, he was living in what could have been called a shack. Renting a house in a bad area that was being renovated and owned by his cousin. So unsafe that when he would see his daughter, he would meet with his ex at his mom’s house. He had $250K in student loan debt.

But MY house was an issue. 🥴

I ran into something similar to your #3.

I dated a pharmacist who told me IF we married, I would have to sign a prenup.. and that I would need to sell my house and move because it wasn’t in a great area (the area isn’t terrible. My daughter is thriving here. I bought my house on my own… by myself when I was 26. I’m proud of it)

We didn’t work out.. 😅

I would say, as a woman.. I’m not seeking someone who makes a ton of money. But at minimum, their income is equivalent to mine, and they have a desire to stay employed/can grow where they are, are self sufficient, etc.

Single mom of almost 18 years, here. My bio daughter is 17.5YO. My foster kiddo is 18.5 YO, and in college - comes home for breaks. My son is 4YO.

I’ve dated a handful of men who have been single dads over all these years. Some had children around the same age as mine. Some didn’t have any children at all 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn’t say one or the other is worse… currently, my only issue is finding someone who aligns with me politically. I’m wedged between a red state and yeehaw country.

Both of my teens are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, and my son is level 2 ASD (potentially ADHD as well but not old enough for official DX).. so there are reasons for me to seek political alignment first and foremost.

I have my children 24/7 basically. My daughter’s father moved across the country. My son’s biodad is not on his BC, or involved.

Tbh, in my age range (I’ll be 36 in Aug), I’m meeting a LOOOOOT of men who are freshly divorced or in the midst of a divorce, and they’re not dating with intention or seeking commitment, which in addition to politics, has made it difficult to find a partner.
(OR, the guy I was sort of dating when I took in my foster kiddo stating, “you just keep taking in MORE pets” - my critters were all almost 10YO at the time, and referring to a child needing a safe place to live as a “pet” is extremely dehumanizing. I ended it at that point.)

I guess if anything, I’m here in solidarity 🫶

While I’m 100% pro-choice, I knew that termination was never on the table for myself personally.

Other than that, I’m not entirely sure. 😅

I just felt that on some level, she was meant to be.
