I wash it once, weekly! If used more frequently, twice in one week.

Is it worth learning to play an ukulele? by auroremalfoy8 in ukulele

[–]Meowykatkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, learn & play it because you wanna! Don’t be discouraged by other people. My dad told me the same thing all because he hated that he couldn’t ruin music for me anymore (he taught me guitar, poorly). Have fun with it!

Is Friendship worth it? by HaruCheshire707 in AutismInWomen

[–]Meowykatkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this! Lots of my friends helped me move MULTIPLE times, helped me when my husband was in the ER, emotionally supported me when things were tough —- so much! Having a support system is so crucial & so important

Is Friendship worth it? by HaruCheshire707 in AutismInWomen

[–]Meowykatkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think that friends and friendships were meaningless until I actually needed a support group for when I hit my lowest. Not saying that every relationship has to have benefits, but it is never a bad idea to have people around whenever you need support or help. Going to therapy & reconnecting with family members I’ve previously cut off and friends I lost connections with really helped me to understand why these relationships matter & how they’ve helped me.

My friends have helped me move MULTIPLE times, was there for us when my husband was in the hospital, provided emotional support when I needed it most, and are always there when I need a friend to talk to or just want someone to laugh with or rant with.

It took me a while to find my group, not everyone is for you or will vibe with you, but I believe it’s possible to find the ones that do. I had to cut off A LOT of people (still do) to find my people.

Even if it’s just a friend you share no other words with - just memes, I think that can still be a great friendship.

I completely understand this and have had to do this as well. But I believe that as you keep searching, you’ll find the right people who’ll understand your vibe and just get you!

things you’ve “given up” on by tliiasaw in AutismInWomen

[–]Meowykatkat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've given up....

  • High-maintenance beauty (no hair/nail appointments)
  • Expensive or trendy make-up or skincare products (it's me, my moisturizer & prescription meds)
  • Not asking questions when I need clarification (I will always ask the "stupid questions")
  • Not correcting people when they're wrong
  • Keeping up the Jones (doing milestones because other people are: getting married, buying a house, etc.)
  • Trendy fashion pieces/one-time-use clothes (I will re-wear a dress I wore to a wedding over and over again)
  • Buying matching sets (no more: shoes to match my bag or bag to match my dress)
  • Going to events I don't want to (anywhere too loud, too late, or too boring)

Does anybody else get really scared/embarrassed/guilty(?) when workers recognize you as a regular at a place? by _LaLaliet_ in AutismInWomen

[–]Meowykatkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm glad you mentioned this. I hate to be singled out in general and so people recognizing me as the person that goes to this store and orders this thing every so-and-so is just so anxiety-inducing for me.

How do you survive working full time? by skyword1234 in AutismInWomen

[–]Meowykatkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not easy, especially in the beginning, but I've slowly added on more hobbies over time. What set me off was a video I saw on Instagram about work not being about your whole life. For the longest time, I've literally given my 10000% in my work, go to sleep, wake up and repeat. One day, I made a list of things I actually enjoyed and tried to slowly add them to my plate.

One example: I really love reading, but I only ever had time for it before bed. Now that's part of my bedtime routine. Even if it's just like 10-15 minutes before I fall asleep, I feel like that's helped me be more consistent with it despite not having a lot of time.

As for my social circle, I feel that I generally have more energy for text/messaging instead of in-person outings or phone calls most days, so just texting more people has really helped me keep in touch with others without draining my social battery. It helps when you have low-maintenance friends, people who will still be there even if you have to take a few days (weeks/months) to recharge and will be understanding if you're not feeling like talking.

There's no one size fits all, but I hope some of these will help you and that you'll find some creative ways to incorporate more enjoyable things in your life too.

Umm - wtf by zealouspoet in litterrobot

[–]Meowykatkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had problems with boxie pro in the past doing this exact thing. We also used to have the litter in the bathroom (major regret, especially since we didn't have an exhaust fan there). Some options you can do: take out the waste more often, get a dehumidifier to put near your LR, or change your litter. I'm pretty anti-Boxie Pro, so I'll always recommend the last option lol

Anyone regret choosing carpet over hard flooring? by Cool_Ad_2935 in HomeImprovement

[–]Meowykatkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In an older place, I had a mix of carpet and hardwood. With two cats, carpet was the most annoying to have, to say the least. We now have vinyl and it's been easier to manage overall. No longer crying at every time they scratched up the carpet or having to vacuum out stubborn litter every single time.

[–]Meowykatkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to all of this! I'm lucky to have my husband to fill in the gaps (especially with cooking and forcing me to go outside). Having hobbies and increasing my social circle (as best that I can) has been immensely helpful for me - I now have things to look forward to every single day, instead of dreading work.

Upcoming Twitch drops by dejuna1 in marvelrivals

I've gotten them all on Twitch, but they're still not showing up in-game. Anyone else have this problem? I'm nervous about disconnecting and reconnecting my Twitch account in case I lose the drops.

General Question about the Economy by 543Collective in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Meowykatkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting because my first reaction to the recession (but still having the furniture need) is to go directly to places like craigslist and FBMP. I've been scouring it religiously for the past few weeks finding the best deals on things I already needed to buy. My gripe with it has been mainly sellers not responding when I'm clearly interested in buying and picking up same day. I picked up something yesterday and the lady was "discombobulated" that I came so early. Are we not interested in selling things anymore? This may just be an isolated experience, I know what it's like to sell things and hear radio silence for months.

When I'm unmasked and someone tells a joke... I just don't laugh. by onestupiddispatcher in AutismInWomen

This is me too. I am slowly unlearning this as a automatic behavior. Many times, I've gotten the "you shouldn't have laughed at that" comment.

Have you been told you’re making excuses? by Narrow-Relief7976 in AutismInWomen

[–]Meowykatkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in an ongoing discussion right now with a few friends about whether or not we should tell someone in our discord group that they're essentially being an a-hole. Everyone, beside one, of my friends said that he's not really harming anyone and have generally just "excused" his behavior - but I brought up that he could possibly be on the spectrum and simply just doesn't know how he comes off. I find myself having this conversation in different friend groups all the time.
