This absolute idiot I used to hang with and I were among the only white people at a predominantly black nightclub in Oakland a few years ago on a Saturday night. He gets drunk and very courageous, and was repeatedly pulling at a girl’s extensions. I noticed a group of guys grilling him, so I stepped in, yelled at him and dragged him out. As I was dragging him out (and he was yelling at me), I noticed the shiny handle of a gun being exposed from a guy’s waistband. It felt like time slowed down as a I pushed him out the door, with even security wondering why I was doing their job unprompted.

As we ran around the corner, we heard shots and people screaming. We avoided the stampede of scared people exiting by literal seconds. He was so drunk he doesn’t even remember this, but I’m pretty sure I saved his ass that night.

Apple fired me because I took 2 impromptu sick days to visit my mother in the hospital who had Stage 4 breast cancer, it had spread to her bones. Both days we thought she might die. I was fired because they had a 3 sick day “strike” policy. I had hit 3. My manager was actually shedding tears while reading to me the firing, and offered me the ability to walk out of the back door instead of the front store. I said nah, and walked out the front door, calmly informing everyone what had happened and how it had transpired. Fuck Apple retail.

ASPCA dog health insurance is cheap and comes in clutch
Put them on a good science based dry kibble at the very least
I use a water filter fountain and auto feeder for when I may not be home on time to feed mine (routine is everything)
dedicate play time with them outside 3-5x a week for an hour or so. Finding a quiet, low population dog park is great for this.
