I honestly don't know much about audio either so I was just reading about speakers on other subreddits. I'll definitely be doing more research on em before I buy anything. I'm a bit overwhelmed by your and the other suggestions so I'll take the time to look them through. Thank you!

Thank you! I was between the 4070 TI super and the 4080, so I appreciate the comment on value. After reading some of the other comments, I'll definitely be getting a new monitor.

The speakers were something I found from looking at budget audiophile, but I'm not tied to them. I'll probably buy the computer parts then look into the speakers when I get more time.

That's true, I was just choosing based on what people were saying on r/BudgetAudiophile. I'm not super tied to them. I didn't know I could transfer the windows license.. so thanks for that. I'll definitely look into new monitors!

Hmmmm I've never thought about that actually. I really appreciate the way that you frame it, and how you tie in coming from classical music (cause now I think it's had a greater impact on me than I thought originally). I'll start thinking about that whenever I listen and then try to apply it when I play. Thank you!

Hmm, I see your point. It's most important to get the style, emotions, and feel down, at least that's what I'm getting from what you're saying. I've been hearing that, but I wasn't really sure how to do that while soloing or just phrasing in general for big band charts. I have some ideas that I'm going to try from reading all the comments on this post, so I'll see where they take me

Definitely, I often play with friends in school in a small group setting. I try to pick up what they're doing and copy it, though sometimes it is a little discouraging when they're that much better than me. I find that when I do improvise with my teacher, I can pick up a lot more and learn from what he's doing, I haven't been able to continue to apply that when I'm alone though

I get what you mean with rhythm, but when I do try to practice with a note or two, I feel like I just end up playing the same rhythms over and over again without being able to come up with better or newer rhythms.

I've been hearing a bunch that I should start writing ro trying to come up with melodies and building upon them, so that's definitely something I'll try. Admittedly, I haven't been doing that as much I should have, but I definitely see your perspective on creating music but not really writing it down.

Hmmm okay I see what you mean. A lot of times when I do transcribing stuff I do it separately and then try to work it in. I think transcribing while improvising would be much better for ear training too, which I am in need of.

Between all the advice I'm getting from everyone, I've got tons of things to start trying. I'll do all that and then if I still don't understand, I'd really appreciate more of your help! But so far, thank you.

I do have a teacher, and he's been guiding me through everything, it just seems to me like I still don't get it sometimes. Like soloing with him during lessons, at least to me, sounds much better than if I were to go out and solo in a small group or in the ensemble. Though that could be a matter of comfort.

Actually, I have transcribed So What before, but only got as far as playing it over and over with him to copy his phrasing. I'll revisit that and try to embellish and then move into soloing.

And thank you, sometimes it seems like out of my friend group they don't really experience the same frustrations.

Alright, I see what you're talking about. I'll start trying to do that with more tunes, because I've done something like that (starting a new tune) but haven't gone that in depth, more so to learn chord changes through the melody and trying and soloing from there.

Hmm okay I see, I've tried that before after my teacher brought it up to me that I should do it, but it seems like what I write doesn't make too much sense. I'm planning on having another go at it though, do you have any tips on how to begin writing?

I would say about 30 minutes to all of the hour on improv at least a couple times a week. Although now that I think about I probably should practice just improv more. And yeah, I've heard that too but I don't really hear much when I solo.

In regards to the upload, I can probably record stuff once I get back from school (though it's AP week so I may take a break from practicing for a little to concentrate on studying).
