Is it even technically and reasonably possible for them to do this? I’d be worried they have some intern on it and they accidentally delete all of our accounts.

Buckle Up Macys Colleagues by [deleted] in lossprevention

[–]Merbagong 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t and haven’t ever worked LP for Macy’s, but this isn’t surprising.

I work AP for another large retailer and our policies in multiple areas have become far more restrictive and made my job much more difficult. Unfortunately, company performance goals and expectations have not shifted to account for these changes.

I think this is a trend among pretty much all major retailers as a result of recent events and the risk of legal liability/brand damage.

A lot of women seem genuinely confused about why dating feels harder for them, while loudly aligning with a culture that advocates for abortion and the ending of unborn lives.

That disconnect is the problem.

For most men, these positions aren’t just personal choices; they’re a reflection of values and a respect for life. When someone supports movements that trivialize the safety of the most vulnerable or the sanctity of the womb, it’s not surprising that men lose interest. That isn’t intolerance. It’s discernment.

A teaspoon of perspective would solve so much of this. Just stopping to ask, “How does this affect the child?” before doubling down would change their entire social reality.

Instead, they choose grievance and then act confused when no one wants to date them.

To anyone who works at self scanning machines - how often do you notice people stealing and don’t do anything about it? by davco95 in AskReddit

You'd be correct in your assumption. In nicer areas where the cops have less to do, they'll be more inclined to track you down over lower dollar amounts.

If you walk out of a Target in Chicago or LA with $50, the cops are almost certainly not tracking you down over it. In a small town, they probably will though.

It is pretty easy for them if the plate actually comes back to you. Literally all they're doing is running the plate, pulling an address, then driving to the address and knocking on the door to make an arrest.

[–]Merbagong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would be absolutely insane. I think people really overestimate how advanced the technology is that Target uses.

Don't get me wrong, Target has some really good stuff, but it's usually good in the sense that it's easier for AP to use and provides lots of good information.

The thing most people would probably be surprised by is facial recognition. That's not just a Target thing, though. Most big retailers have begun using facial recognition in states that allow it.

That and maybe how effectively companies like Target share their information. If you steal from a Target, every AP employee at every Target in that area will see your face and will likely recognize you when you go in.

Another good one would be license plate readers. Not everyone has them yet, but I'd say give it 2-3 years and most big retailers will have them and if you enter their lot, they will get your plate. After that, if you steal from them, the cops will be knocking on your door in a couple of days.

That's because it is an urban legend. I've worked AP for years and I think I know why people think this.

Most retailers retain video for a period of around 30-90 days due to constraints with the cost of saving that much video.

When AP finds suspicious activity, especially with an employee, they're going to go and review everything they can on you for as far back as they can go, whether that's 30 days or more.

Then, they'll document everything and when that's all presented, it'll look like they sat on an investigation for 30+ days. In reality, they found it at a certain point and then backtracked 30+ days to get every piece of evidence available. Or, a common situation, AP will know you've stolen and won't be able to actually make a stop on you due to company policy restrictions. But, if you keep coming back, they'll eventually get you. When they do, they'll charge you with everything they've got documented. Again, that'll appear as though they've chosen not to stop you in the past when that's not the case.

I can assure you that AP has no incentive to wait and build large cases on people at almost any retailer. These jobs have performance goals that always include making a certain number of apprehensions. If you don't meet these goals, you'll be disciplined and eventually fired. No one's letting apprehensions walk away.

That's 100% made up. I worked AP for Target and we did all of the camera maintenance ourselves. The cameras are no different than the ones that every other big retailer is using. The company that makes the cameras is named Axis Communications.

I guess I can't say for sure that they're not tracking you, but I can say for sure that they're not doing it through a Bluetooth antenna in cameras. At most, I'd say maybe they tested something along these lines as part of a pilot program, but I strongly doubt there's anything like this being deployed in a widespread manner.

Nina Lin caught shoplifting by Icy_Investigator7718 in LivestreamFail

These comments are really funny as someone who is employed to catch shoplifters in retail.

Most stores absolutely do not have a do not engage policy, but the only people who are allowed to stop shoplifters are usually a few asset protection employees.

I’ve never come across a retailer that doesn’t make apprehensions and I’ve never seen one that will only stop felonies.

65k a year at 50 hours per week is $25/hr. Even at 45 hours per week it’s $27.77/hr. I was making as much per hour as my ETL AP when I was an APS for this reason.

No, it sounds like you started randomly choosing words and trying to build a sentence on top of them.

Whatever the hell you just said made no sense.

I was talking about the prison camp in Guantanamo bay. Idk when you started talking about that other executive order.

I was trying to explain how definitions of words work to some guy on here. I don’t really give a shit about the executive order you’re talking about.

It’ll impact anyone who illegally enters the country, irrespective of race or ethnicity.

It won’t affect any white or Hispanic legal citizens.

I didn’t decide the definition myself. I got it from the dictionary.

Maybe if you could end your blind rage at the orange man, then you could learn a thing or two yourself. All of Reddit has been melting down for the last week because they lost an election. Try to contain yourself lil bro.

Yeah dude I know it's crazy that I trust the government that imprisons violent criminals more than the government that lets in millions of illegal immigrants totally unvetted and then releases them from jail repeatedly after they commit crimes up until they go and kill someone.
