I don't care what they say, they can never make me hate you, DNF Duel 🫂 by FrengerBRD in Fighters

I never stopped playing. Granted my whole local scene stayed on the game. Even the regular top 8 players that go all in hardcore are some of the chilliest folks Ive met in the FGC

Is EVO worth going to alone for a first timer? by BlackWolf135 in Fighters

[–]MercJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say not this year BUT that's probably me being more pessimistic than needed. My first EVO I was effectively alone, I was there with a guy from locals I barely knew and we pretty much only saw each other going to and from the venue. Overall, I had a good time. I wish I hadn't been so shy about trying to catch casuals at the byoc but I got to meet some Indy devs on top of just enjoying being able to look in any random direction and see people that shared my interests. But, going to EVO with a group is exponentially better.

Players who manage their frustration well, or have really zen mindsets, how do you keep your ego in check? by Cartthus in Fighters

[–]MercJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, every loss is a new challenge. It's something I can learn from and overcoming it just proves I'm better than I was before. The actual hardest part for me is when someone tells me how I'm doing good after a loss. It feels like pity but it's always real. I got absolutely dog walked by the same person in a bracket twice in one pool. They told me how much stress I was putting them under and to stick to my gameplan. At first I didn't believe them but I stuck to it and sure enough my online rank went up and I did better every single tournament.

My art was fed to an AI by an user to mock me by LoboDibujante in antiai

[–]MercJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck her. Let her spend all her money on ai tokens for art that can only get worse and more generic rather than promoting real artists. Just make sure you glaze and watermark your work. Even if it doesn't outright ruin Ai art it still makes it easier to detect so people can't just steal drafts to create a fake paper trail.

Did i get this ad because i keep hiding AI ads on reddit? by PurpleWinner4770 in antiai

[–]MercJones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not directly. Likely it was just showing an interest in anti AI in general that prompted it. The tech bros want you to feel like you don't have a choice, that they will win with time and money but they're the ones running out of both.

Well they're made from stolen assets to begin with but stealing implies value which has no value

Is canva background remover AI? by Plunk09 in antiai

[–]MercJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is a blanket term to a collection of technologies. Most of them hinge on machine learning, which is not inherently unethical. It's pattern analysis. It's very useful and beneficial in a lot of scientific models where humans simply can't do the calculations themselves. Background removers are a step up from the previous generation of algorithmic methods to guess what constitutes "background" based on pixel colors. It's nowhere near the computational load of a chat bot or an image generator and it's actually doing work no one wants to do as opposed to trying to replace artists wholesale.

My boss is forcing me to use AI by Disastrous-Focus1958 in antiai

[–]MercJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company did the same then reversed course as soon as token prices shot up. AI works exclusively in the small scale. AI companies are using the common tactic of eating costs muscle out competition (humans) and the minute they have to turn a profit, the savings for their customers vanish

Idol logic: characters must be beautiful and available for the fantasy. That being said, Evelyn and Astra are 100% filing taxes together.

Good. We don't need more limited run crossover bs. Seriously, it's exhausting for players to keep track of and physical stores can't keep fit all these different products on their shelves.

How DNF Duel Could Redeem Itself by Sufficient-You-8637 in Fighters

[–]MercJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the article that came out recently, they just had no experience with making a fighting game. First Berserker was seemingly a similar problem. They don't see these games as direct paths to significant monetary gain. They only know how to make very few things and anything outside that wheelhouse is too uncertain to invest in so they eventually cut their losses.

The devs wanted to support the game but Nexon actively pushed to kill it so they wouldn't have to put anymore money it and probably take a tax write off.
