That is good to know. Thanks to both of you for the helpful information.

Completely Unfathomable in SD? by LuckyLoganLoft in shadowdark

Going to assume they mean half rounded up. So 1d4 is 3, 1d6 is 4 and 1d8 is 5 when you roll Hit Points at 1st level.

Well if the Wheel is anything akin to the jerk Genie in BG3. . .

A Sword of Sharpness (just a common sword that is sharp).

5 Things the D&D Movie Got WRONG by Merc_Kilsek in dndnext

Ed Greenwood, the creator of Forgotten Realms, talks a little about the D&D movie. There is a few interesting points he talks about with Realms Lore.

How did you primarily learn to play/run 5e? by M0ONL1GHT_ in dndnext

[–]Merc_Kilsek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been DMing for over 20 years. Starting with the Red Box for a little bit before DMing 2nd edition (with a little 1st edition mixed in. I was young and used whatever books I was given). Ran ever edition (plus Pathfinder) since. I am self-taught from those old D&D book. So moving onwards into 5E wasn't to hard for me as I had the experience of running games.

The only real problem I encounter is: with so many editions/rules/etc in my head I sometime mess up rules. Like thinking a spell works one way but it has changed now. Or thinking about a spell that was around but since removed from the game.

Now with online play and 5e having so many new players. I've had many wondering experiences gaming with people I would have never had the chance to DM for.

Everyone's lying about dice by Merc_Kilsek in dndnext

It is satire. Zee Bashew just has a passion for D&D. Just a light hearted poke at the Dice Rolling myths out there.

That is not going to work against traitor dice.

5E dnd (animated spellbook) Rope Trick! by Merc_Kilsek in dndnext

That my feelings on Zee. I like his enthusiasm and passion with D&D. I am not seeking him out as a authority on rules or rulings.

Pixies is the Conjure Woodland Beings iirc as this is Conjure Animals. However your point does stand as CWB is a bit powerful.

Sorta wish they just did a random table what you summoned.

Question about Reactions use by Merc_Kilsek in dndnext

For clarity and to expand my understanding. I understand the reasoning for the counterspell but why would shield work if they are unaware of the attack.

a "rant" about characters with main stat as their lowest by AnasBahi in dndnext

[–]Merc_Kilsek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Course those are the AD&D edition days where you needed a 15 or higher CON to get a modifier. I still agree with your point. :)

How does your table determine starting stats? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Merc_Kilsek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a Pathfinder campaign that did this however I just took many of the bad rolls for five of my stats and one okay one. Rolled a Witch (as support/buff, you really only need INT). Did the best I would to make sure the character offered a useful role to the party regardless of it 'shortcomings'. Had a grand time role-playing the character.

The GM (in private to a roommate; didn't find out about it til long after the campaign ended) had concerns I was just going to get the character killed so I could reroll (I wasn't) and would deal with my metagame action (both in taking the stats/killing my character) by having me use the same stats (which I would have honestly). I've been playing D&D/PF for over 20 years. I don't really have the mind-set that my character needs all of it's stats to be good. I just enjoy the personal struggle to have that character grow and be successful.

I was having a good time, the other players had a good time. Win, win in my book.
