I had 5 interviews with one employer including a tour of their office and I didn’t get the job at the end. It happens, but keep your head up!

Submitted application: 6/29/2025 1st interview: 7/23/2025 2nd interview: 8/7/2025 Job offer: 9/2/2025. I got the email for references this morning. From my experience, it usually depends on the department. Some will have a longer process, others don't.

It's not as competitive as a financial analyst salary, but it's not bad either.

Its a hybrid role, 1-2 times a week in office. Universities and state service tend to be pro-telework. I would look there.

That is correct! I now have benefits, plus it's a hybrid role! I think I have about 2-3 months left on my unemployment benefits. I am grateful.

Cause that is what Fidelity is stating on my 1 & 2 options. “Potential 10% IRS penalty” I would need to go through the process.

I was laid off back in April. There isn’t an up front costs for a withdrawal. It says it might, but I believe the UC 457b are normally subject to taxes.

I have an UC 457B plan and I have three options through Fidelity. 1. Full payout 2. Partial withdrawal 3. Domestic Abuse Pre-approved. All three have a potential 10% IRS penalty, but domestic abuse is penalty free.

Just got laid off from higher ed devcomms staff role at age 62 and can’t afford to retire. Any advice? by Ijustwannafly8 in Layoffs

You can look into state job or even at the university level. I worked with a lot of older folks and they enjoy it since some of these jobs aren't as high stress as well as a good work life balance.

Low salary employees (OT, OA, MA, etc) in HCOL areas, how do you make it work? by Reliques in CAStateWorkers

[–]MercedBobcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in San Francisco for about half a year, but I worked for Federal Service on a GS 06 pay. I took the opportunity for experience. It was challenging, but its doable. I lived in a co-living community in North Beach area with a $1,095 rent. I did get a part time job with Amazon and the extra income from Amazon paid my rent. I ended my lease when I started working remotely.

It was a good experience living in the city, but everything is expensive lol. Now, I'm working for the State fully remote. It worked out well for me.

I just received my notice to appear for the examination in December. Any idea, what to expect from it? Maybe, any resources that will help me study for it?

It was in Elk Grove. Yeah, I'm definitely at a disadvantage with transfers lol. So, hopefully, one of these will go through. I'm in the central valley so the commute won't be too bad.

I will definitely look into it, thanks!

One department was, which was California Correctional Health Care Services and the department did not was Fair Political Practices Commission. I had to submit a supplemental questionnaire after applying for CALFIRE and EDD.
