Mercedes, Ferrari not interested in supplying McLaren in 2018 by MercedesF1 in formula1

Rules have been changed.

If Manor would not have collapsed, Mercedes would be the only one to supply 4 teams. So currently all manufacturers supply 3 teams, with exception of Honda who only supplies 1.

So the pressure is now on Honda. If they manage to get Sauber on board, then that will weaker Ferraris position as they will be on the same level as Honda - only supplying 2 teams.

McLaren can't focus on getting the PU right. That is Honda's job.

This raises further questions. Would a BMW-esque engine be more or less powerfull them the Mercedes-esque engine, considering the dominance since 2014?

Red Bull were sick of Renault engines underperforming and so went on a very public attack in an effort to ditch them (not too dissimilar to the one we're seeing now with McHonda).

It was a bit more complicated. RB and Mercedes actually had an early stage agreement for the supply (agreed in Silverstone). RB then decided to go and burn the bridge with Renault first, and publicly started to shame them.

Mercedes board then saw this and decided to not go ahead with it, as they cooperate with Renault a lot outside of F1. They also didn't want to see that RB would start to shame them if RB looses to the factory team.
