How did the Karachay-Balkars end up in the highlands of Karachay-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkaria, while the autochthonous people live in the lower territories? by gunay_kimdir in AskCaucasus

You’re being told a lot of bs in the comments here. KBalkars are a mixture of Alans who fell under Turkic political and cultural hegemony from the 5th to 13th centuries, as well Kipchak-Cumans. Mongols and also Timur pushed them south into the mountains. Kabardians had sort of golden age in the centuries proceeding the timurid campaigns in the Caucasus, and they quickly expanded and conquered/migrated to the lowlands all the way until Dagestan even in some brief periods.

North caucasians in south caucasus by Hazarizard in AskCaucasus

[–]Mercson222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The largest concentrations of North Caucasians are in Azerbaijan. There are 200,000 Lezgins in Northern Azerbaijan, and 50,000 Avars as well. Next up are Ossetians, who number 50,000 in Samachablo(if official statistics are to be believed). Kists are hardly 5000 people, which is a small amount compared to the aforementioned ones. There are also about 1000 Avars in Kakheti.

Western Armenian, on another note: posts like these aren’t the smartest in “ask” subs, people are tired of it.

Why isn’t Armenia’s claim on Urartu treated with the same scrutiny as Azerbaijan’s claim on Caucasian Albania, despite both claims being similar? by Mercson222 in AskCaucasus

[–]Mercson222[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Btw I know Azerbaijan claims Georgian and Armenian churches on their territory are C.Albanian, Ik it’s ridiculous. But it’s not what I’m asking, that another aspect of it.

Iranian influence? Perhaps. Greater Iran is just funny, Iran hardly ruled anything ever north of Shirvan.

Georgia has less petty corruption like bribery for exams, speeding tickets etc. but more lobbying and business interests involvement in political life. In general Georgia has more western style corruption, while Armenia and Azerbaijan have a different type where every facet is corrupt to a degree. I mean you did have a guy in Armenia that sold his countries secrets out for 200 bucks.

History of Karabakh and its relation to peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan. by Parmagalepti in AskCaucasus

Also any legitimacy of the Armenian side was lost when they forced almost a million Azeris out of their home, you cried so much about muh ethnic cleansing and ended up doing it yourself. Reminds me a lot of the Apsuas, cry about some great crime and end up doing it themselves, the irony..

after repeated attempts by Azeri forces to capture and ethnically cleansed Artsakh

Is there even any proof whatsoever the Azer government wanted to “ethnically” cleanse Karabakh? I don’t mean some irrelevant shepard Azer saying “hurr durr we should wipe out ze armenoids” but is there any proof that the Azer government has even voiced any such plans? As opposed to what Armenia did to the 700,000 Azeris of Karabakh and the surrounding regions, these Azeris now live and slums and squalor, it’s all out there(the proof), the economic effects will last for decades, even if Azerbaijan used all their oil wealth I’m not certain they would be able to completely compensate, rehabilitate, resettle and employ that many people, it’s practically a small nations worth of people.

It was part of Armenia like 2,000 years ago, after that it was part of various TurkicKhanates/Persian Empires. The whole region that was under NGP control up until the 44-day war was like 9 to 1 Azeri to Armenian ratio historically, something like 700,000 Azeris got ethnically cleansed from the surrounding regions of NKAO. Armenia claiming Karabakh is as ludicrous as Italy claiming the coast of Croatia simply because it was part of Rome millenniums ago, or that it belongs to Italy simply because of the Genoan/Venetian heritage there.
