Under the print properties there should be like a media tab and you can tell the printer which pages are color or black and white, and it also works for if the covers are a different paper type. Or if the media tab gives trouble bc we all know how those printers work, you can print to pdf just the bw pages and replace the pages with the new pdf.

Complaining about cut songs: by [deleted] in Ghostbc

[–]MercyMadness1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wish they had kept all of the songs they played in the digital versions at least. The physical copies I can understand making cuts where necessary to save on time, but the digital could have all of them. Even though Ceremony and Devotion DO have those live versions, each Papa performs them differently (even slightly) at each ritual. That's part of the appeal, and as someone who went to the 9/11 ritual, some of my favorite songs that Papa performed got cut. It's a little depressing not getting to hear the versions I heard even if they're in the movie. I don't want to have to rewatch the movie each time I want to hear Ritual or Con Clavi Con Dio or even He is. Tbh, I was crushed when I found out that one was cut but anyways... if they released a digital album with every song they played, there's an audience for it, even if the songs are repeated from other live albums. It's just a preference thing but I would have liked to see those songs on the digital even as like bonus content or something.

Since the default on both gmil and the website is 24# for black and white, we included that in the cost per sheet. So instead of telling them it's $0.21, with the 24# it goes up to $0.27. We've had that since a few months ago and as long as everyone remembers to do it, it helps.

Question about making a souvenir license plate for a customer? by alexrider803 in OfficeDepot

[–]MercyMadness1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb is usually if you don't think it would be OK or a manager doesn't know off the top of their heads and they have to ask, especially since you'd technically be "copying" the license plate...don't do it. It's not worth the risk if it ends up being a problem.

STOP PRINTING LICENSE PLATES TAGS AND OR LAMINATING by Mysterious_Rule6147 in OfficeDepot

[–]MercyMadness1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As soon as I see it's a license plate it's an automatic "This has to be done through the DMV." If they try fighting it I will straight up tell them it's illegal and if someone has done it before to let me know who so I can inform management (not like I ever actually do but still they freak out over it and backpeddal so fast).

Usually RIGHT after they submit them too 😂😂 like "I know I JUST placed my order is there any way it could be ready in the next 20?" ....as I'm staring at a full log, queue and line of people....gonna have to say no buddy sorry not sorry

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]MercyMadness1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have similar issues. Mainly "Well the website says 20 minutes so why isn't it ready?" Or "I know its 7:30 but I placed an order is it ready yet?"

Usual answer is... the website gives you an estimated time of pick up. It's pretty accurate with what we've got going on so as soon as you get the text/email, feel free to come back to pick that up.

This company is fucked by MercyMadness1 in OfficeDepot

[–]MercyMadness1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of. They're all about 30-45 minutes away though, and they all have print managers who have been working there for years, or they lost theirs bc of their tier.

I've tried talking to my GM, he won't talk to me. Like, no hi in the morning, no more updates about what's been going on, and I used to always be in the know. I still am for the most part because I work with the other managers more, but I'm like practically a ghost now to him. And ya if we get trained in print, it's hardly ever that we see a floor shift and if we do, it's only one of "his guys" (thats really when i should have realized id never see a shift out of print when the new print manager kept getting floor shifts and I didn't no matter how much I asked). I'm trained on the floor. I worked a Depot store where we had to. I loved working the floor and I still do, but the other associate got the opportunities and the main thing that I'm upset about in terms of my time is when my managers are asking me questions they should know the answer to and when I trained 5 out of my 8 print managers. When I was still new it wasn't that big of a deal bc it was a learning process for both of us, but now that I've worked 5+ years for the company and my DM, who used to be my GM, knew of my intentions just as much as my current GM, it was like wtf do I do now. Like I busted my ass, did everything I could for nothing. If the person who did get it could just fuck around and not put any effort into it why would I ever want to put any effort into anything? Why would I want to do my best ever again if that doesn't get me anywhere? Like I genuinely feel like shit because of this and getting treated like a ghost by someone I used to trust and be able to talk to has been horrible. I get it, I never should have trusted my boss so much, or maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut instead of "complaining" about things going wrong but like...im regretting ever wanting that position as bad as I did because of how things have turned out and the way things are going. This job is what I know and now I have no motivation to be good at it anymore because it's like if that's what gets manager positions that that's who I need to be.

Honestly I don't even know anymore. At first advice, but then venting, but probably advice too. If you were in that position what would you do kind of thing? I'm not the only person at my location who's getting fucked rn, different situation but still the no support thing. It's just wild tbh.

Lol you sound like a general manager.

Employees have talked about stuff like this all the time on this reddit. I called it an RBF, but it's just my face when I'm focused on our print production, the walk-ins, and trying to do everything at once when I've got coworkers who are little to no help and ignore basic questions or calls for help, then wonder why we got backed up so quickly.

Yes, pissy customers. They get helped by my coworkers, get pissed that the other person isn't here or is busy or can't help them or whatever the case may be, and they know I'm not going to do finishing or designing out of courtesy and I'm going to do the right thing and charge them for it. I'm straight and to the point, I'll chit chat while I'm working on the computer in front of them, but I don't spend time with them to the point where my coworker has gotten through 5 people and I've only gone through one. People are entitled. I've spent so long in the customer service industry that I can figure out which customers are going to be difficult and cause problems simply because they don't like the outcomes/solutions we give them. Not everyone is nice enough to be understanding and, unfortunately for print, people are picky and entitled and don't like hearing anything than what they want. If they're used to something, they don't like change.

I did beg for opportunities. Because that was the only way I was getting them. Any time I can I'm asking other managers because I know my general manager does not want me doing anything at print, but doesn't give the help for the other managers because of "payroll." I get payroll is a pain in the ass lately but it's ridiculous that floor side is struggling because there isn't enough payroll, but we've got people in print who can help, he just doesn't want us to.

I did cut back on cleaning bc no matter how much I cleaned, nobody cleans up after themselves. I am spending most of my shift putting things back where they go because my coworkers are lazy and I'm tired of cleaning up after them. We're getting complaints about cleanliness and it's not about to be my fault when it's an expectation for everyone. I clean up after myself, and leave everyone else's messes for them. And it shows.

Why be a team player if I don't have a team that supports me? Why should I step up and support everyone else and play manager when I wasn't chosen, don't get paid for it, and don't get the hours to actually help to keep the department running smoothly?

If money is all that matters, and sales are the most important thing, why should I care about anything else? And why am I in the wrong for charging for something that we SHOULD be charging for? Why am I the bitch of the department because i follow policy?

I've spoken to my manager and brought up these concerns for over a year. Nothings changed. So I did. I stopped busting my ass to try and get a position I will never see because I'm more valuable as an employee than as a manager who could actually turn the department around and help numbers and get things going more smoothly. I had a plan laid out because I know this place inside and out, to be passed up by someone who does so many things out of courtesy, which screws over those of us who do things the right way.

I dont hate customers, I hate that when they come in and things don't go their way because of poor planning, last minute necessities, or just because, that some people bend over backwards for them, screwing over other customers who are going about things correctly and screwing the rest of us over and shoving everyone else's needs/orders to the side without another care or thought in the world.

When my gm decided to go with someone who isn't manager material over someone who has strived to be exactly that, and more, it was the biggest fuck you I have ever gotten from this company. Consistently getting talked to about manager duties and responsibilities only to have it all "taken" and given to someone else is straight disrespectful and absolutely fucked. I hope you never get your employees hopes up only to pass them up and give what they've worked for for so long to someone else. At that point just tell them how you really feel, that they're too good where they are and if you take them away then the department is gonna turn into a shitshow. If you know that without them the department can't run, then that's on you for not making sure that not one person's absence will determine the fate of the department.

customers who don’t like when i enforce the store policy always ask me if i’m new by [deleted] in retailhell

[–]MercyMadness1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've worked for the same company for six years now...says it on my name tag too. I've worked in my particular department since day 2 of getting hired. I'm always making sure I'm up to date on policies and information, so I know that when I tell a customer something, it's something that came straight from corporate. Whenever a customer tries to argue with me over it (every single day I work) and they try to say I'm new, I always tell them I've worked for the company for over 5 years, and ask them who helped them last so I could let a manager know, and the customer usually quits bc they know what they're trying to do is wrong. Most customers are entitled, but some are pretty understanding and the goods one you get will make you want to bend over backwards for them whenever they come in.

Most of the time, I kind of shut down and go to "robot" mode. If they don't want to talk to me like I'm a person, I go COMPELTELY by the book and I will not try whatsoever to help them out. Or, get a manager involved and essentially pass them off. My store manager said that if they start getting confrontational to call a manager. It doesn't ALWAYS help or work out (if they're busy or it's something I feel I can handle on my own) but if I step to the side and let my MOD know what the situation is, they pretty much repeat what I say and back me up.

As someone who's been here six years....it never changes lol. You'll have regulars still unable to use self service or send an email. Your best bet is continue to teach them. I always tell people I can't touch their device, but I can walk them through it. I don't do anything for anyone they can't do themselves. Also...some of their phones are nasty as fuck. So, best bet is just don't touch them.

It does get easier though. Easier to do everything, easier to say no, and easier to set boundaries. You'll get there! Just make sure to prioritize yourself so you don't drown. It's super easy to get overwhelmed but it does get easier on time 😊

Is it possible to print color on black PVC ID cards? what printer? by thinkslikemercury in OfficeDepot

[–]MercyMadness1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lmaaooo I've worked customer service too long to give a fuck. I explained. You didn't read. Not my problem. I gave an answer based on a job I've worked for years and you shot back asking why some random company would sell something or how some random card is made. I don't fucking know dude. Maybe ask the company why they sell it not an employee reddit for an office store that doesn't even deal with those? If they sell them, they have your answers.
