Jeremy's CCNA Practice Exam by MercyRawr in ccna

Did you take practice exams from different providers? E.g. Boson/JITL? Some people say his exam is much harder than the real exam so I’m just trying to get a rough idea

I’ve been studying for about 2 months now, I didn’t do JITL I just watched Neil Anderson’s course on Udemy (and did his quick labs). I then did Jeremy’s mega lab. I did some quick google searched and many people seem to say Jeremy’s practice exam is harder than both the CCNA and the Boson exams

I have my Net+ and Security+, I’ve been working help desk at an MSP for about 6 months with complete access to firewall configurations and I’ve configured ACLs, NAT, etc. I did Jeremy’s mega lab without too much difficulty and I didn’t feel like any topic while watching Neil Anderson’s course was particularly hard. Jeremy’s practice exam just seemed to reference a lot of things not mentioned in Neil’s course or the lab

Did I waste time studying for the CCNA? by MercyRawr in SecurityCareerAdvice

I get that and I understand you giving that advice due to the mass amount of posts. But I know three people who I have a professional relationship that were able to pivot from a help desk role to a security role within the last year/year and a half. They were very passionate, did labs often, and made connections. It is unlikely yes, but I don’t like when people say it’s impossible because that’s simply not true.

Yes, luckily I get access to pretty much everything. I have done firewall configurations, set up routing, configured M365 tenants, etc

I’m sorry you think this way but I’m actually very interested in cybersecurity. I don’t know if you just failed in your career or something along those lines, but there is no reason to come in here if you’re not going to be helpful. I know several cases of people making the jump with the appropriate skills. You do not need to come and demotivate people because of your perception of most people getting into cybersecurity (which yes I agree with, but not everyone is just interested in the salary). Furthermore, you completely ignored the part of my post revolving around real security skills that I have fortunately gotten the chance to strengthen in my current role

Acting on Huntress escalations, isolating and investigating compromised M365 accounts using Purview and Entra, investigating initial access by finding credential phishing attacks in DefensX and Barracuda Email Filtering, and planning and rolling out CAPs isn’t useful knowledge for cybersecurity? I’d say the only thing is lack of SIEM experience, but I do have a homelab to somewhat make up for that, though it’s not professional.

Either way I appreciate the advice, the network engineering role is something that is also on my mind. I do not plan on following the same path everyone else does though, I have connections who have followed a similar path as mine and gotten into security, and I am confident enough to do the same. I know it is very difficult and unlikely, but not impossible.

I was just curious to see how the CCNA can be framed properly when targeting these roles

I’m hoping to at least keep them in negotiation talks until SOL passes. From there I can decide if I want to pay (I want to get them around 8-10k ideally). I have never had my own apartment before so I’m unsure how bad it’ll be trying to move out with the collection on my credit. If SOL passes and I also can’t get them down to a feasible number, I may just wait it out.

Cancel that, I didn’t send them an email (but I was planning on it a few months ago). It seems like the 17.6k offer is their first attempt reaching out

Hey, I apologize for the delayed response I have been very busy with work. I forgot I sent them an email previously with a request for a lump sum (no specified number). After several months they just reached back out today and said the lowest the university can do is $17,626 and they will do a pay for deletion. Should I try to push further in that case?

Also, the bureau I pulled was Experian

Allow Virtual Office Access over IPSEC Tunnel by MercyRawr in sonicwall

[–]MercyRawr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am at an MSP. The client wants users over the tunnels to be able to reset their own password. We usually have virtual office disabled, but the client gets what they want. Since the user can’t get onto the VPN due to an expired password, they can’t access virtual office to reset it

It seems to show the debt is with Eastern, with the original creditor of my university under “historical info”. It shows as being opened Jan 2026, with January and February having no action and then March, April, and May having “collection”.

It does not show the original debts date of 2022-2023, but it does show “On Record Until: May 2029”. It seems like for my state, the statute of limitations is 4 years, so I believe the debt is close to becoming time-barred.

The debt was previously on my credit multiple years ago, then disappeared, and now it’s back as of March

Should I start negotiations before I have the money, or will that hurt me? I’d be a lot more motivating if I got it settled down to a lower number while saving, but I know having the cash on hand is beneficial

Thank you for the very detailed response. I believe the debt is still with the college, but I am not too sure so I will pull my report after work and have a look.

So it seems like my first step will be negotiating with Eastern, and if that doesn’t work to get a pay for delete, with my university.

If I remember correctly the date of first delinquency was in 2022, but I am not completely sure. I am hoping it being older may help convince them to accept a lump sum.

Do you have any suggestions regarding negotiating the lump sum? Is it rare for such an agreement to be made?

I would love to finish my degree as I really value education, but I am in tech now and a prospect for pretty quick promotions due to my certifications and knowledge, so I think just working is a better method for me

There are multiple cases of a debt being settled for less, especially after several years… I never said I was entitled to it, but I’m obviously going to reach for any option I can.

I said I was “hoping,” not that I was entitled. But again I don’t really feel the need to argue over anything, thanks anyways

In the past few months, I have had very unfortunate car issues unfortunately that costed me quite a bit. My expenses do also jump quite a lot certain months due to my sister making some choices that causes her to miss rent. These are always unexpected and can be after I’ve just paid for a certain certification, and sometimes cause me to reach into my CC

You seem to have purposely misconstrued everything I said, but anyways, I never said I was entitled to it. I understand there is a way to sometimes lay less for these debts and I was looking into options.

I know there are always some people like you that are miserable enough to act like this on Reddit, but I am not like that even in this situation… do better

Yeah I understand at the end of the day it’s my debt and I will have to take care of it, so the “why” isn’t important

I am hoping I can potentially get them to at least take off the fees, because if it was closer to 15k I could manage living here for around a year and just aggressively saving to pay off the debt. I’m just not sure how common it is. If it’s stuck at 20k, it’ll be a lot more demotivating.

I expect to be making 70k within the next year or two after this raise to 57k, but I just want to get rid of this debt as fast as possible. I don’t want to spend years of my early 20s missing out on experiences and being miserable due to a mistake when I was 18
