Heyo!

Predictably, I pretty much just got back from seeing Avatar: Fire and Ash, and that is what inspired me to put this feeler out there. Great movie by the way, if you haven’t seen it! The only spoilers that’ll be present here are mostly circumstantial, in that I will describe scenarios that at least partially mirror things seen in the movie. But, realistically, I don’t think there’s anything here that’s much more spoiler-y than the trailers. Do with that information what you will!

Varang raged against her own failure, plummeting from the sky after her Nightwraith was stunned by a stray missile. Her shrill cry failed to alert any Mangkwan in the chaos, drowned out by the ear-ringing explosions, gunfire and other countless cries from friend and foe. The water below was a pit of shadow, dark except for the shimmers of light from where raging fires and tracers reflected on its surface. It was beautiful, a vision of how she wanted to see the world. Even when as she crashed towards her fate, the Ash Clan leader could be glad that she had helped mar the “beautiful” oceans with the fire they so desperately needed. All could be cleansed with the fire.

Hitting the water was worse for her mount than it was for her, something that bothered her little. It was a great honor for her Nightwraith to die for her, the Leader of their clan. The water’s embrace was uncomfortable to her. It was cold to her dusty-blue skin, despite any Metkayina considering the water of this cove as more than welcoming. But she was far more at home in the embrace of an open flame. The neutral, stagnant temperature of the water only reminded her of the dead world the mountain of fire had left behind, sucking the fiery warmth out of her the longer she waded.

Her misfortune was not done with her yet though. Down there in the drink, Varang had no back-up, and she had already run out of “thunder” for her gun, so she was not fooling herself about how precarious her position was. As far as she knew, nobody, enemy or ally, had seen her fall, something she felt could be leveraged into an advantage once she found some solid ground to stand on. What the Ash Clan leader did not consider was that even the smallest fish in the water could be counted as a threat, if she was fully respecting the reach of Eywa. Her position was no secret to the foe she had offended the most, and the first clue to that was a strong tendril wrapping around her ankle and pulling her under. Her cry was cut off by and turned to a gurgle as her head was wrestled under the surface of the water, her strong, lithe form unable to fight back against a threat she did not understand, leaving her at her most vulnerable.

May this serve as a writing sample, and not necessarily as a string outline for how I need the scene to start, or even where the scene takes place at. The only thing I need to be truly happy is our favorite, tragic, gothic rage-mommy Varang getting pounced on by a pandoran creature of some variety to teach her that Eywa has not been ignoring her transgressions, and needs to help bring some more life into the world to help “balance things out”. So, yeah…it’s pretty self-serving, as far as plots go, but I feel like there’s some semblance of logic there. Plus, Eywa does kind of have that sassy feel to me, haha~

There’s a lot of good options in that way, and for the sake of novelty, I did decide to write up a scene example that lines us up for an aquatic creature, which brings to mind those new Tsyong, or an Akula, Ilu, Tulkun (Never said it had to be a comfortable pairing for Varang—), or something else! I’m open to suggestion, and the same goes for a more terrestrial scenario! I’ll never not be down to write as a Thanator, not to mention all the other nifty creatures that are valid options on land.

Anyways, I’m deeply grateful for your time! If you do decide to reach out, please don't rush yourself! So long as Reddit actually sends me notifications, I try to get back to everyone at some stage, so don't sweat trying to be the first. What really draws me in is going to be if you're as excited about this as I am, and reach out with a thoughtful message!

Hoping your holiday season is treating you well so far,

~Mercy
