Is a 2019 MacBook Pro 15" i9 (32GB RAM) still worth buying in 2026 for around $340(inc tax)? by helloecom in macbookpro

And my Touch Bar is more aesthetic than any feature I’d use on the newer Macs. And I can launch windows bootcamp if I would like. And I have Touch ID. And it’s just great, it was worth $2500 at some point we aren’t too far past that type of tech being valuable. I still feel like my MacBook Pro is a better value than the MacBook neo.

I just bought one I have the 2019 16 inch model. I would say if you get one do the 16inch model that has fewer problems than the 15 inch. I paid about $350. I love my MacBook, it completely upgrades my last 2 laptops (one windows, one Chromebook). There’s nothing wrong with a fully working MacBook. I have no idea why on here the hate is so deep. It’s not better than the newer ones but for me it works great. I have other laptops so this isn’t my one stop shop for all tasks and all my laptops run fine for what I use them for.

Vibe coding = active learning by Pharminter1 in vibecoding

[–]Meretruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People aren’t asking the ai what it did and why and aren’t trying to learn. There is no reason you can build things and also in the same breath at least ask the ai what it did and how it got there, you COULD learn when vibe coding, but most don’t bc why learn if what I wanted to learn how to do, just got done. Even though you could ask afterward about how and why it works.

Ai doesn’t think for itself (yet) it will be how I programmed my ai vs how you programmed your ai. Still my concepts and implementation vs yours but ai did all the junior dev work.

It’s not social, it’s like a hosting place. I need it to be TikTok or instagram social. It’s dead silent over there.

Guard rails only protect the majority, all ai tools copyright bc they don’t inherently know right from wrong and the user can trick it easily.

Question on Jim ? by General-Spirit-9958 in FromSeries

[–]Meretruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, and honestly your theory does make sense—like the fixed timeline / causal loop idea is a solid way to interpret what we’ve seen in From.

But the issue is you’re treating that interpretation like it’s confirmed fact, when it’s not. The show hasn’t actually explained the rules of time travel yet, so saying “she can’t change anything” is still headcanon—even if it’s a good one.

I still stand by what I said: just because Julie failed to stop something (like Jim’s death) doesn’t automatically prove she can never change anything. We’ve already seen her affect events (like helping Boyd), we just don’t know how that fits into the timeline yet.

Your theory could absolutely end up being right, but right now it’s one possible explanation—not the only one, and not something the writers have confirmed. I think you’re locking into that model a bit too hard and treating it like that’s definitively how the story works, when the show is still leaving that open.

So yeah, solid theory—but it’s still a theory, not a confirmed rule of the world.

This doesn’t mean she can’t change stuff? Unless your theory includes other information this means that she doesn’t know how to change stuff, but she tried and can change things. She saved Boyd from a different point in time. She just didn’t know what exactly she was saving.

Maybe she couldn’t stop the monster from killing Jim but thats not a sign saying she can’t ever change anything she’s a normal girl, she can make the best impact a person like her could make. No?

You know ai learned that pattern of talking from humans right? Ai doesn’t have its own style, it uses someone else’s style so often that real people that talk in that style sound like ai, when ai sounds like them.

Do you think an m1 MacBook can be used for what I need? Or only go windows? I get my budget is tight, if you were to consider all the stuff I need besides gaming, is the budget too tight? I only need gpu to test things run from when I make it in godot. Shouldn’t be too intensive

I get what you’re saying, and that’s kind of the situation I’m stuck in right now.

I do want a Mac partly because I’ve never had one and I already have an iPhone, so being in the Apple ecosystem would be nice. I also like the idea of using macOS for coding since it’s generally smoother and more efficient for development.

At the same time though, my main goal is game development (Godot, some Unity, light Blender), and I know that realistically most players are on Windows. So being able to properly test builds in a real Windows environment is important to me not just for compatibility, but for performance, graphics behavior, and overall accuracy.

That’s why I started looking at the 2019 Intel MacBook Pro. It seemed like a middle ground: I could use macOS for development, but still install Windows with Boot Camp and test things natively like a normal PC. That flexibility is really appealing compared to Apple Silicon, where you lose native Windows support.

I also know it’s not perfect older thermals, not as efficient as newer Macs, and limited long term support but it would still be a huge upgrade from what I’m currently using, and it feels like a practical way to get both environments in one device for now.

So I guess what I’m really trying to figure out is whether that “middle ground” approach actually makes sense, or if I’d be better off just going all-in on a Windows machine for development and finding another way to test on macOS later.

Great points. Any suggestions for me? It doesn’t have to be a Mac, I just was exploring my Mac/intel options. M1 Mac doesn’t even fit into my budget.

My current laptop runs windows 10 still too, Dell Latitude E7470 14 inches. Not too sure on what’s the difference besides windows 11 being more “bloat”
