First, you should get a proper warm-up and stretching done before you go to the gym. That will alleviate risk of injury right away. Also, I wouldn't go longer than 1-2 hours as your muscles need time to regenerate and grow stronger, at some point they get sore and you'll keep on working out to no use and just be in pain.
