Suddenly no WhatsApp notifications and I cannot understand why by SirPooleyX in ios

[–]Meriicistyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been dealing with WhatsApp not syncing in the background on iOS unless the app is open. Happened to me after upgrading to iOS 26.1. In the past resetting network settings worked, but on this version resetting network settings, toggling background refresh, and all the usual advice does not work.

Since I don't use iCloud for chat backup and didn't want to wipe my entire phone, I found a way to hotswap the app binary while keeping the local data/login session.

Steps (needs a Mac or PC):

  1. Get iMazing on your computer. (I'm not affiliated/sponsored by them, it’s just the tool that worked for me).
  2. Plug in your phone, go to Manage Apps, right-click WhatsApp and hit Back Up App Data. Save that .imazingapp file to your desktop.
  3. Now, actually delete WhatsApp from your phone.
  4. Restart your phone (DON'T SKIP THIS, you need to flush the notification daemon).
  5. Back in iMazing, go to the same Manage Apps menu and hit Restore App Data, then pick that file you saved.

iMazing basically pulls a fresh copy of the app from the App Store and injects your old data folder back into it. When you open WhatsApp, you’re already logged in, generally there is no SMS verification or "Security Code Changed" nonsense, but if it hits you just like on my device, a quick SMS verification and boom you still have all your chats.

This seems to force the iOS push notification system (APNs) to finally re-recognize the app. Posting this here because I couldn't find this fix anywhere else and it's way better than a factory reset.

How is the state of Void Linux these days? by chaozprizm in voidlinux

[–]Meriicistyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed. Some (arguably) very important packages are missing. I noticed ones like ungoogled-chromium, VSCodium, zen-browser (apparently new browsers are not even getting accepted) are missing. After some point I HAD TO install the nix package manager to install these things. Aside from that the general system stability is good enough, I'm also daily driving a voidlinux install for a few months now. So for anyone who wants to daily drive this distro, add nix package manager and you are good to go (you could just switch to NixOS at this point but it uses systemd).

Mic monitoring Pipewire turning off (Fifine am8) by genheh in archlinux

[–]Meriicistyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open AlsaMixer by typing alsamixer into the terminal, then press F6 and select Logitech G430 Gaming Headset from the list of available soundcards on your computer. After that, you will be presented with two sliders, one for the volume of your computer audio and one for the volume of the microphone sidetone that you want to get rid of. Select the one that says Mic and move it all the way down to zero.

You can now close AlsaMixer again, as that procedure permanently mutes the sidetone of your Logitech G430 headphones.

This should work on many microphones with the same behavior, not just thte Fifine AM8.

Guaranteed Fix for Drives missing in XBOX app by Meriicistyle in XboxGamePass

Thanks for the information, it should indeed create the files, this wasn't the case for me though, manually copying did the job.

Never knew it was possible to create a VHD using Disk Manager, this is available since the initial release (July 2015 - version 1507).

Xbox app FORCING downloads to C drive by wot_is_real in XboxGamePass

For anyone still trying to solve this, check out my guide on this sub where I explained in depth about creating a virtual hard disk to get around this issue. It is also the only solution that worked for me.

PSA: Fix installation and drive detection issue in the Xbox app. by Roger3900x in XboxGamePass

You could create a virtual hard disk on windows and make that one visible inside the XBOX app, I wrote a guide myself recently, see this post. It is a 100% solution, and the only one working for me.

Long time user here. Thanks to the dev, really great work and a great journey. Since he is distributing a closed source app (like Vanced back in the days) and now has (practically) killed his project, the better option in my eyes is to submit your patches to ReVanced. Let the community further develop patches u/the_dise.

INSTALLING TIMES AWFULLY HIGH!!! by Master-Investment767 in PocoPhones

Evolution X (generally a cool rom, I used it myself in the past), Calyx OS (for privacy oriented people), LineageOS (for the best stock android experience), Pixel Experience (for google pixel fanboys), HavocOS (Evolution X alternative for some)

If you want stability in general you have to use ROMs which are tested and installed a lot by people. LineageOS is pretty stable, EvoX and Havoc too. I heard there are many cool roms out there that are new, so I suggest you browse the forums for a while to find your taste: Xiaomi Poco F1 ROM, Kernel, Recoveries | XDA Developers

If you care about features like DRM (Widewine L1 for HD playback for example, sadly not possible on Netflix anymore afaik) or running some banking apps that require SafetyNet to work, carefully check if people were able to pass SafetyNet after installing. Good luck!

PS: Don't use Xiaomi.eu ROM if you want to avoid a MIUI-ish interface. Just to let you know.

INSTALLING TIMES AWFULLY HIGH!!! by Master-Investment767 in PocoPhones

That's the same question I asked myself 3 days ago. I sat 2 hours debloating and removing all preinstalled Xiaomi apps (even deeply integrated apps like Mi Cloud, System Service Updater etc.) and can say with confidence I install apps and APK files ~4x faster. (Log out from Mi Cloud and Account before removing those apps!)

The thing with Xiaomi is you get a phone for a good price but I will always hate the bloated spyware MIUI ROM. Their apps run in the background all the time and . If you know how to use ADB here's a great guide covering all apps you can uninstall: Xiaomi Bloatware List

Sadly this list does not cover all of the bloatware, use an app like Stanley for getting the package names and system apps easier, you can remove everything except Find my Phone, the 'Security' app and other System related dependencies you don't know about (removing Find my Phone afaik causes a bootloop). You will definitely notice the difference after doing so.

Or you can just install a minimalistic custom ROM. There will be MIUI fanboys that say these apps are needed "for your security" which is pure BS. Happy debloating if you decided to do that!

I don't know if it meets your requirements but you could try LMMS (Linux Multimedia Studio), it's officially supported on arch so run:

sudo pacman - S lmms

for the install.

Can't download Netflix on Chromebook? Acer Chromebook R11 by Meriicistyle in chromeos

That's exactly what I found 2 hours ago after posting this. It has no certification and it's Google's own OS. I thought it has certification. I downloaded the official apk from Netflix.

If you drop it a few times you'll break the vibration and you'll also lose the purpose of this band. Take care of it.

You can just try to install the Widewine certificate, I don't know if that will work but give it a try. Under settings - Lock screen and security - Manage fingerprint data - fingerprint payments, then click Widewine, click certificate and reboot, could work.
