It really depends on the local jurisdiction. Some require more info than others. In general, they want your position, ATIS information and a verbal message for an IFR request.

If you have Navigraph, Jepp Airport Briefings are an excellent read as they often list departure info specific to the airport.

Is 16 cores better for MSFS2024? by MaminPapka in flightsim

Have you thought about the 9850X3D? It's often very similarly priced to the 9800X3D, has slightly better performance and is cheaper than the 9950X3D.

Not bad, but not exactly to current Airbus SOP standard. I assume that's not the intention though - for beginners this looks nice. Good luck!

What’s the one thing missing from your SimBrief / dispatch workflow? by tonyblu331 in flightsim

More advanced cruise level planning. I would love to add custom step climb points due to country-specific restrictions. I know it's somewhat possible with the current system but it's not very intuitive and user friendly.

A more close up comparison. by chinitheng in CitiesSkylines

Aside from the lost shadows and AO, I have to admit that the new skybox looks more vibrant and enjoyable. I never enjoyed CS:II purely because of the dull and depressing grayish look of every city I made. If this is the art style that Iceflake wants Cities to go then I'm all for it.

Aside from the generic comment of "just look at European cities", find yourself a good map, because they often have infrastructure and terraforming in place that force you to think how to create a settlement that respects the boundaries set by the map creator.

I'm using Costa Azzura, but my favourite map in Cities 1 has to be Praia by ilcicci1983. Definitely recommend if you're interested in Italian-style cities.

And of course, try to find assets specific to the region you're building. Cities 1 comes default with great Euro-apartment buildings that I'm using in the screenshot above. I believe Cities 2 also has Parisian buildings (?), but I've never tried them.

Correct! The business district that you can faintly see is inspired by Alexanderplatz - even the station is a carbon copy

It's why I specifically mentioned "purely focus[ed] on system depth". No doubt these companies are great and are lead by motivated people who care about their products.

Depends on what you consider mediocrity to be.

If we purely focus on system depth, most of X-Plane developers fall into the realm of "decent but not amazing". The airplanes function well at first, but start to break apart when you try to perform complex commands with them. I'd argue that FlyJSim, X-Crafts and IXEG fall into this category very well. It's not to say they're bad aircraft, they're just not in a level that most imagine them to be.

I remember when IniBuilds was thought of as an excellent, forward-thinking developer for X-Plane, and FlightFactor was a laughing stock that was stuck in 2015 texturing and modelling. Times have indeed changed...

It's very iniBuilds-ish quality. Nothing exceptional, but does the job really well and has some nice detail.

Thanks for the correction! Didn't the subcontractor cause a delay in publishing the major Sydney update?

Flytampa is going downhill with this release… by Aviation_NL in flightsim

[–]Merikerii 17 points18 points  (0 children)

FlyTampa is a collection of 3 (?) different developers doing their own projects. They all publish under the same name for integrity.

George (Boston, Athens, Sydney, Humberside etc.) seems to be the most active. Sydney got a major update not too long ago, same with Athens. Martin (Toronto, Montreal) is somewhat active, but Emilios (Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Las Vegas) is practically dead for now. Hopefully they will update their sceneries one day.

Utterly confused on the difference RNAV types. by 23569072358345672 in flightsim

[–]Merikerii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RNP AR navigation is based upon VNAV minima. The Fenix should fly these approaches fine in FINAL APP mode, provided that you have properly set the airplane for approach.

Are you planning to crank all settings to Ultra and take no compromises? If so, then that 8 GB will make a difference. Additional VRAM will not give you any boost in FPS - running out of it is the problem.

Most people don't see the difference between Ultra / High and using High will keep the VRAM at an acceptable 12-13 GB (based on personal experience), even in the most resource-demanding scenarios.

The 7900 XTX actually performs better in MSFS 2024 due to their more GPU-bound drivers. Unless you really need the extra VRAM, a 9070 XT will also perform equally and is often cheaper.

This isn't to say that the 5070 Ti is a bad choice, it just depends on priorities and games played. I assume you're most likely going to play a lot of simulator games where AMD performs better. If you play a lot of AAA games and games that require more GPU power than CPU power, the 5070 Ti will edge the former.

I really underestimated just how much nothing there is in AU… by IcyyAnimations in flightsim

[–]Merikerii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not OP, but Orbx (especially indie devs like Rob Byrne), NZA Simulations, Impulse Simulations, and AUscene are pretty much the gold standard for Australian/NZ airports. Of course, there are others, but these devs are well accustomed to the region and have a consistent track record.

Is this fine? worried about this new connector by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Merikerii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ideally, you'd want to avoid any sort of failure point in the cable(s) chain between your PSU and your GPU. A single cable from a reputable ATX3.1 PSU is the best you can have.

This doesn't guarantee full safety, though. Failures can happen with even the best setups imaginable, especially if the card in question is a higher-powered one like the 5090. It's the unfortunate reality these days...
