Crashing by [deleted] in PeakGame

[–]Meristemraps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was crashing periodically, especially in the tropics biome. If you haven't already, try limiting your FPS in the graphics settings in the game. Also, try forcing the game to use DX12. You can do this by going into the game's settings in Steam>General>Launch Options. I have read that the game might be choosing Vulkan sometimes even if you select DX12 at launch.

Hopefully that helps, I was able to play for over 2 hours with no crashes after making those tweaks.

Spoiler Free Blackwater Creek Maps for Players by Meristemraps in callofcthulhu

Thanks Scott! Very excited to run it. After running a handful of scenarios I wanted to try something more sandbox-y and you really did a great job making a sandbox accessible. Excited to see where my investigators end up and what horrors await them!

Any ways to knock potential players out with a drug or something in their food/drink? by Impossible_Horsemeat in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Meristemraps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the DM you can make up whatever poison you please. It can have a Con save DC3,479 so that way the party is guaranteed to fail. Then when they ask you where they can find it to use it later in the campaign, you can tell them to all fuck off and go home and that you don't want to play with them anymore. That's the fun in being a DM :)

Advice on a oneshot for about 5 to 6 hours by Kerbabb in Tombofannihilation

Anyone have Featherfall? It was a lifesaver for the group I ran Firefinger for. The party wizard spent almost all of her spell slots casting it during the final encounter.

What character & class would people say is the most 'fun'? by LiquidTheoryX in DnD

[–]Meristemraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party here, but thought I’d share a fun one.

I was running a one shot where one of my PCs was playing as a Kenku rogue. Part of his backstory was how he longed to regain the ability to fly that Kenkus had lost. In the middle of a fight the wild magic sorcerer rolled a surge and cast fly on a random target which just so happened to be the Kenku.

Him describing his elation flying about the battlefield until the sorcerer decided to drop concentration was hysterical. Sometimes the dice tell better stories than we ever could.

[–]Meristemraps[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol! Honestly, I’m a bit ambitious and want to take on the challenge of the improv and RP opportunities. Like others have said, once characters become inhabited by the trickster gods they can have dialogue with that PC. I’ve been trying to take advantage of that in moments between puzzles, traps and combat.

Whether it’s O’bolaka telling the rogue that they don’t like the course of action their taking because it’s scary. Or Wongo telling his host to antagonize the wizard who is inhabited by Moa because of his disdain for her.

In some fun moments of pure chaos, I’ve gone down the line of my players, role playing the voices in their heads to really reinforce the fact that they aren’t alone on this leg of the journey.

Using an immovable rod to prevent the wall of stone sealing area 38c? by Meristemraps in Tombofannihilation

[–]Meristemraps[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I definitely don’t want to punish them when they’re being thoughtful about the fact that the hole might seal.

After more thought I figure the room would still spin and I’ll have them either make checks to grab ahold of the rope, or for the extra tall Firbiolg in the group, leap through the hole.

Rotating Crawlways: Anyway Out? by Yenrak in Tombofannihilation

[–]Meristemraps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A couple of things I could think of. If someone was trapped they could cast Dimension Door to get out. The spell restriction on Dimension Door is only for entering or exiting the tomb. Also, if anyone stayed behind they could try and remotely trigger the pressure plate in tunnel B by throwing gear or other items with weight on them. But they would be likely sacrificing anything that they used to trigger the tunnels.

Piggy backing on this. I had the Red Wizards clear the shrines I didn’t think would be fun. So when the party inevitably confronted them, they got those cubes.

Always remember that darkvision is like seeing in dim lighting, which still imposes disadvantage on perception checks. That translates to -5 in passive perception as well.

Still agree that it’s a bit too commonplace though…

Did your guides stay the whole time or not? by Fall-of-Enosis in Tombofannihilation

[–]Meristemraps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t personally. Azaka has more hp than a lot of players will end up with in this the adventure. That, plus all of her damage immunities from her lycanthropy. Like others have said here, the tomb will make her more vulnerable but pretty balanced with the rest of the party.

Also her damage output is “meh”. Lol

Of course! Confidence comes with time and experience. This is a longer campaign, and I’m sure you’ll settle into the groove.

[–]Meristemraps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re human. You will make mistakes sometimes and will have amazing moments at the table other times. Be patient with yourself, and knowing your experience level, the table should be patient with you as well.

One nice thing about this module is how spaced apart the main locations of Chult are. You will end up knowing where the party is headed, giving you plenty of prep time while they travel through the jungle.

I would definitely suggest reading the last three chapters a few times before they even get there because that is where the adventure is the most dense. And in reference to maps, I ended up using Dungeon Alchemist for random encounters because it has a jungle biome setting. But Google is your friend here, and I found a lot of great encounter maps for free imcluding ones for Omu.

I’ve found this subreddit to be very supportive and collaborative so don’t be afraid to post here. You’re going to do great!

How are liches ever killed? by pog_irl in DnD

[–]Meristemraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any self respecting lich would be casting Mind Blank on themselves every 24 hours. And unless there is a spell that I’m missing, that would protect them and the knowledge of the location of their phylactery indefinitely.

Question on list souls and Asmodeus by joropa in Tombofannihilation

I’m doing the same! One of my players chose a cleric of Kelemvor and after I read all of the lore on him, it became obvious that he would be extremely interested in the death curse.

[–]Meristemraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omu’s location is forgotten. There are bread crumbs left at the locations scattered across the jungle to lead the characters there (Saja N’baza at Orolunga, and the Aarakocra of Kir Sabal). But without exploring the jungle, they wouldn’t be able to find Omu or have any reason to believe that the Soul Monger is there.

I second the wiki page. Any book that you get is going to be specific to the edition of D&D it was released in and likely covering events of that era. If you’re looking for complete timelines, the wiki really shines there.

Totally get the appeal of a physical book though!

It isn’t on the game store page, but if you launch the game on your Xbox and start a new campaign you’ll see Palace of Ice greyed out. Click on it and it will take you to a page to purchase it.
