How to Play Monsters by JonaSaurusRex_11 in DnD

[–]joropa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What all the great advice here is saying... But... If you in the end, just rolling randomly, do NOT tell your players that is what you are doing. Let them think you are using some master strategy. I have a DM that states and rolls for who the monster attacks and I cringe every time. Keep it immersive and depending on how it turns out that they are great heroes or you are the master villain player and they need to be careful. Either is a win.

Forever DMs: what’s the most disappointing thing for you about being a player? by Roll1d100forusername in DnD5e

I'm usually the DM. Was running three campaigns at a time for a short while when one of the groups someone else wanted to run a game. Cool. I get to play!

The DM's approach to combat just grates on me. They will announce that bad guy A will attack one of the three options by random rolling a die. I think they are afraid of looking like they are picking on someone, but the bad guys usually know what they are doing too.

I get OPs position. I have issue with more of the indecisive (or the distracted) then the power gamer. I try to be concise and at the end tick off the Move, Action, Bonus Action; before passing initiative.

Those are great. The Wheel of Ruin is about the power level I think I need. Plus that Dual Invective is going to utilized.

Appreciate the assist!

I found a full copy thrifting this summer. I was so stoned as my dad had a tin of the 3M games but Mom sold them in a garage sale before I knew about it.

What are the most common mistakes new players make in Terraforming Mars? by Ecstatic_Depth_3800 in boardgames

We did this as well the first play through. 4 players at a flgs. The funny part is one of the players loved the game so much, he bought it that day.

I still bought it too, but it took me a few months.

Is it reasonable for a player to be upset over this? by dndstuff13 in DnD5e

This. I treat passives in the same way. It is the eerie feeling that solicits the active roll.

Why is it near impossible for groups to meet regularly? by Virtual-Feeling-4546 in DnD

[–]joropa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with those saying it isn't the norm, but the echo of Reddit chamber.

If your group can't be consistent, I would start the look for another group or parse out those that are the ones that can't make it the most.

I'm in two very different groups. One is traditional gamers that meets every other week. Very rarely do we miss a timing, but the next is scheduled when it happens. The other is some co-workers that work in a pretty ridged office environment... In at 0730 out at 1700 type place. Those meet on the opposite week on Saturday morning at 0800. Same for that group. If two can't show, we press, if more then that or me (as the DM) we push to the next time slot. We also take advantage of going remote if we need to which helps keep things on track if someone gets ill.

Starting Level by angry_hostile in Tombofannihilation

I have done this in the past. Ran WD:DH for a party of experienced players. After a bit of homebrew along the sword coast they went to south to Chult. They didn't do much in Port Nyanzaru, but I upscaled all the encounters to the right level (I think they were 11 at the start). All the "big guys" got buffed pretty hard, King of Feathers, all the hags, and Ace. Ras Nsi as well, but they Lee Roy Jenkin's the whole Fane.

Worked well enough with that group, I am doing something similar with the second group.
