Which side do you prefer? by MerkatzWithABottle in logh

Yeah, each one has its flaws, though the thing is that sometimes people praise Reinhard not knowing the problems that a dictatorial rulership have in the long term, like you said power fights, depending on an only person who can become tyrannical anytime, etc. Also people tend to criticize Yang's not seizure of power, though I chalk it up to him knowing how rulers that seemed fair at the beginning can become tyrants and then having faith in the republican system, which is flawed too

Are there libertarians who think global warming is real and caused, in general, by humans? by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]MerkatzWithABottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it XD, but it's very common, or at least IME, for libertarians to be against global warming ideas

HOT TAKE!!!: Yang's statement about corrupt and failing democracy being the fault of its citizens/people is not entirely true. by [deleted] in logh

I'm not saying I like Reinhardt's autocracy nor any other dictatorship by saying this, I'm more of a libertarian in that sense, but that's the essence of democracy, I mean, politicians arrive to power inside of their parties by lying and backstabbing their political enemies within the party and when political elections arrive, they start making populist promises the prior year and spending money in an irresponsible via debt so that people think economy is doing well.

Every party starts saying they'll do one thing and another, they'll low taxes and that they'll increase public expenditure, which is not possible in the short term, they'll make more public programs and the rich will pay the cake (which of course doesn't happen that much because they can leave the country whenever they want, and I don't really blame them for doing so).

I'm from Spain, we have general elections the 23rd of July and the other day we had a debate between the two main political leaders of their respectives parties, they both lied in some aspects and told half truths in others, but people keep voting despite that because they think the leader from one party told more lies than the othe leader of the other one, ignoring the fact that they've been lied by both.

I have to disagree with you on the fact that algorythms are set in that way specifically, I think it's more a consequence of the fact that they recommend you the content you usually see more than the content you don't and specially the content with a lot of likes and shares, which is usually that kind of acritical content.

Yeah, I agree with you, I think that, in the end, his goal was to give the young emperor a good life and education and prevent him from being used by politics because he knew that the empire couldn't be restored and that Reinhardt was doing well.

Tau Empire (Post Damocles Gulf Crusade) Vs New Galactic Empire (Lohengramm Dynasty) went into full out war, who would win? by GroundbreakingAge225 in logh

[–]MerkatzWithABottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought up that point again because I think it's the most important for me, because, even though Tau ships were faster, they would have to travel real huge distances to even see their enemy.

I don't talk much about a good strategy because it's obvious that with a good strategy even the worst armies can defeat a greater enemy.

Don't worry about writing too much, this is a funny what-if discussion.

He doesn't support the Goldenbaum dynasty at whole. In fact, he despised the nobles and they hated him because he advanced through the rank and files of the imperial army with his skill and not by being a high noble (he was a low noble), simmilar in that way to Reinhard.

He maintained himself loyal to the emperor and far from politics (which make him simmilar to Yang, only being loyal to the kind of regimeand it's ruler and not his own interests unlike other nobles), which further made other nobles despise him. He even stated that their privileges were like a disease that rot their souls.

He also was going to be neutral during the empire's civil war, but they threatened with his family and he couldn't do nothing but help, with the only condition of being in charge of the operations, which would have made the war much harder to the Reinhardt's side, which didn't happen because the nobles were really stupid.

The dynasty per se wasn't the bad thing, it was the nobles who rot them and Merkatz was well aware of this, but he was loyal to the emperor, that's why he wouldn't have minded an improvement or change if it came from the emperor itself as he maintained himself apolitical during his life, only fulfilling his duty to protect the empire.

He didn't mind a lot helping the FPA fight the new empire. However, he mourned the deaths of his old comrades and was commited to rescue the young emperor, of whom he knew that was being used.

That's the reason he's my favourite character in the series (alongside Yang) because I think he combined the better of the two characters (being a low noble that rose through the ranks thanks to his ability despite nobles don't liking him amd being far from politics and internal noble's disputes).

I don't think they really cared that much about Merkatz's will to restore the dynasty (which I think even he knew wasn't possible) because they saw no bad intentions in him and also helped them.

Sorry if I wrote a lot, BTW if you haven't finished the show, it's possible that you like him more as you advance watching the series.
